"What's it about?" Calista asked, cocking her head to the side. She noticed he turned the notebook away from her and she frowned a little. "Why can't I see it?" She asked with a pout.

"It's going to be a surprise." Adrian said putting a finger to his lips with a smile before leaning in towards Calista and lowering his voice. "I'm hoping to get this done as a Christmas present for your mom. All this time playing music while looking for her and not once did I think to write something for when I did find her." he said with a small chuckle, both in amusement at his poor planning, and that he was telling this to a seven year old who likely barely knew what love was. "So that's why you can't tell your mom about this either, okay? I want it to be special."

Grinning, Calista nodded her head now. "Okay. I won't say anything." She told him, now putting a finger to her lips as well.

"Good." Adrian said ruffling her hair a bit with a smile as he went back to writing. "I never thought I'd be so excited for Christmas to come when I know I won't have a present under the tree. And yet, I'm totally okay with that."

"Just because I didn't get you a gift with wrapping on it doesn't mean you didn't get a gift." Amaya called from the kitchen, having heard him talking to Calista.
"I asked mommy what she was getting you. She said it was something for adults." Calista said with a shrug. She didn't get what her mother was telling her, then again, she wasn't really supposed to.

Adrian's eyebrows raised instantly. "...Yeah, you'll find out when you're older..." he said as he slowly sunk behind his notebook. "....Not too much older though, if my days in the fifth grade are any sign..." he muttered to himself.

"What happened in fifth grade? How come you look scared? Do you not like what mommy is gonna give you?" Calista asked, one after the other almost in rapid succession.

Adrian closed his eyes with a sigh and placed a hand on Calista's head. "Like I said, you'll find out when you're older. If mommy says it's something for adults, just don't ask until you know, okay? And trust me, you'll know."

"No, I'm just trying to keep you as innocent as possible and avoid any awkward conversations in the future. Your little mind will be thankful for it." Adrian said ruffling her hair a bit. Where was an escape route from this conversation when he needed one?

"I don't know what you mean, but okay." Calista murmured as a thing appeared on the couch next to her. Its green eye stared at Adrian for a few seconds, before Calista got up and its gaze followed after her. "Come on Hazama, let's go play." The little girl said, taking its hand and pulling it off down the hall to her room.

Adrian stared at Hazama with utter terror the entire time as he watched them leave before looking over at Amaya. "Holy s**t; I take back everything I said about you being scared of her imaginary friends...That thing ain't right."

"I told you!" Amaya accused, pointing the wooden spoon she had in her hand at Adrian. "Ken is the same way. One eye, creepy as hell. It'd be okay if they talk, but even Peter never said a word!" She told him with a sigh. "The worst is when she has a nightmare and wakes me up in the middle of the night with Hazama next to her. I almost cut off his head the first time."

"Would it be wrong of me to suggest some child therapy?" Adrian muttered slightly. "If I came up with something like that as a kid, I'd never want to use my imagination again."

"She was in therapy the entire time I was in rehab. I took her to a mutate child specialist, yes there is such a thing, and she said she was fine and I should just watch her imagination for things that are disturbing. She said as creepy and weird as Hazama and Ken were, they weren't anything to worry about." Amaya sighed in a defeated tone. "They make her happy, and she's got friends at school, so I guess it's alright. She's just not allowed to bring up Hazama specifically when she's at school or with her grandparents because she might scare the other kids or her grandparents."
