" O randomly met one, what chance fortune may reunite us once more? "

Seeing he was still asleep, Asriel got herself up and dug deep into her trunk. She pulled out traditional, custom clothes from Eureka. Demetrian clothes were so heavy and uncomfortable; Asiriel perferred the light and airy clothes of the South. She pulled them on, wary of the sleeping Alister, and braided her hair. Her clothes, to anyone of the North, were very informal to Demetria tradition. She could care less and reaffirmed herself in wearing them. They were lightly colored; embroided with fine golden thread and intricate detail. Sashes and color pronounced that of Southern clothing rather than the laces, ruffles, and length of the North. Eventually, she found herself reading one of the books she brang along with her; she read it forty seven times since she got it. Losing herself to time, it was high sun when Alister awoke. Asriel lifted her head to watch him rise from his slumber.

Something bothered him, it seemed. Would he ever voice it, Asriel highly doubted it. She watched him for a split second, adverting her eyes when she found herself staring. She knew she shouldn't pry even though curiosity mostly got the better of her and was about to ask what troubled him when she caught the distant look in his eye. She closed her mouth; her words dissapeared and she sat on the bed. He looked so bothered in his sleep. Probably nightmares. Asriel found herself worrying over him naturally. She stood then and tugged the drapes open. The light emitting from outside was blinding, filling the room with bright light. She turned, playing with the few locks that framed her face. "Come on, hurry it up. I'm curious about this sacred place you were talking of last night," she murmured in a lighter, upright tone. As if to lift Alister form his dreary mood to repay the favor.

A slight grin formed upon his face when he heard Asriel tell him to hurry. He had almost forgotten that he was suppose to show her the pond he wanted to show her yesterday. Not only that, but he would explain to her the other scars he received though he didn't want to, he felt that if not his wife then who? Unlike Asriel, Alister wanted to try and make this marriage work. It didn't take him long to realize that he would rather be in love with his wife and live a fulfilling live then to hate her and be miserable. Of course he knew it would take some time for him to reach any love toward her, but for now he would try to get her to like him a bit and to know him more, especially to understand what goes on in his head.

After he finished dressing, he motioned for her to follow him. Once outside of the room, he took her arm again like before and lead her all the way outside. On his way out, he had told a servant to bring breakfast to them in the garden in an hour.

Soon, they reached the pond and he let her arm to as he walked to the edge and began skipping rocks again. "The scars came from someone that was once close to me, someone that I once loved," Alister began his story and soon he forgot he was even talking and it seemed as if he were watching teh memory. "This pond near the forest and a bit away from the palace. Here, I ran into a young woman about my age, skipping rocks, letting her emotions out by talking to the water as if it could actually hear her. I simply thought she was crazy but we began speaking and every day we would meet here around noon and simply talk about our problems. Soon enough she confessed her feelings to me fearing that I would reject her. To her surprise and even my own, I did not reject her, rather, I harbored the same feelings. We spent most of our days together and at time she would sneak into my room while I was out and I would find her staring out the window laughing at me. She was quiet the odd ball but soon, my mother caught wind about our relationship. Of course my mother did not like it and told me to send the girl off and to tell her to never come near the palace again. I defined my mother and father and told them that I loved her.

"We argued every day until one day I left to the small village to find her, to talk to her about everything and about how I would not leave her. Sadly, when I got there, she told me she didn't want to see me but I refused to leave. It came to the point where she drew a knife at me and even then I did not go. She drove herself to tears and soon enough I wound up with wounds on my back. I left and let my heart harden after that even though I knew that my mother had threatened her family and her life if she did not end things with me. Till this day I don't know what happened to her. I often think she drove herself mad and ended her own life the day I left, but then again she could be out there in the world. Afterwards I promised myself to distant myself emotionally toward everyone but I also promised to help those with troubled past like her's. Which explains why I tolerate the way you treat me. But none the less that would be one reason why I hate my mother so much."
Alister stopped skipping the rocks and turned to face her after he finished his story.

Asriel lowered her eyes. Was it not what she wanted to hear? She was at lost for words, surely. Yet, after hearing Alister speak, Asriel soon found herself in total thought. She was silent for a long time. It explained why Alister was so distant; why he disliked his mother so much. But to hear Alister speak of such sorrow, Asriel felt almost pity. What did it feel like to love? Love someone you couldn't love? Almost like a book she once read. Oh, what was it called? Julie and Romero by Willy Something. She couldn't remember. And at last, after inhaling a deep breath did she finally find words. "How painful it must've been," she murmured lightly, almost whispered in an airy tone. She went to the water as well, bending to touch the river with her fingertips. Soothing, it was.
Asriel looked at the water. Was this the same water that watched Alister and the girl fall in love? Asriel took her fingers out of the water then; almost like she were displeased by the idea. "To wonder countlessly of what remains for her, even now...I don't think I could've stood it, not seing her." She stood then, looking at him with a tender look. "You must've been so heartbroken. And yet...you were so strong and passionate. How very admirable."
The breeze blew gently; Asriel tucking away the few strands of hair that were loose around her cheeks. "And...Thank you for tolerating me. But really; my past isn't all too troubling. Surely not like the one you describe."

"Yes, painful it was but I am getting over it day by day, there is no sense in dwelling in the past. Though I will never forgive my mother, perhaps on her death bed, but until then she can rot. None the less I wish only to look forward in the future and now that you were forced into my life, I will assure you find something in the future to look forward to as well rather then thinking you're future is death. I will not be married to a woman waiting for someone to kill her." Alister reached out and poked her nose and smiled a bit.

It was quiet for a moment before he turned away and looked at the lake. "I am going to try and see you as someone I can fall in love with since I don't want to live in a marriage where I am miserable, so I would apperciated if you tired as well, if not then not ignore me. But anyway, lets go eat some breakfast, I am starving and you must be hungry." It was odd how he went from sad to happy like that, but then again that's how he was. Once he got this off his chest he was now able to move on and try to see if there was a future with Asriel. He lead her back to the garden where the food awaited them.

It was odd really, watching Alister change his expressions. Of how he talked about the past and then to the future just like that. She didn't comment on it, not wanting to be rude to him or insult him. Funny, to think he saw things in such a view. Asriel even smiled a little bit. No, love didn't work like that. It couldn't be forced upon a person or tried upon. To love someone that deeply in their past, no, they can't easily be forgotten to love another half heartedly. At least, that was what Asriel believed. Love just came natural and there was no other way around it. But what would she know? She had never been in love before much less had much human interaction in her life. But she decided then that working at their relationship so that it wouldn't be so miserable for her as well mught be enticing. So she would refrain from insulting him for awhile...at least. Asriel followed Alister quietly, now much more wary of him being around.

Breakfast was served and something of an oddity appeared on her plate. She was usnure of how to proceed, it being a Demetrian dish. She stared at it a little before settling on giving it a try. Not half bad and it was certainly better than the some of the cold meals she's had in her tower. She ate slowly, avoiding eye contact with Alister. For him to reveal a large part of him like that was not to be taken lightly.

"Pardon me and excuse the intrusion, my lord." The maid came forward, her head lowered. She didn't look at Alister in the eye and kept her gaze to the floor obediently. She gave a bow before presenting herself. "His Lord the King has ordered upon thee to make a public appearance today in a quarter after two. A speech is, until then, to be prepared and an outing of His lordship, you, my lord, and his milady will be arranged. Dinner would be served sharply at six where his lord and his milady will return. Dinner called by his Lord the King calls to it that both of you will attend," the maid stated quietly before leaving.
Asriel held an embarrassed face, never having been called milady before. Obviously the king thought Alister should announce his marriage and of the unity of Demetria and Eureka. It was a great honor to do so however, obviously the king was testing his son.

Asriel glanced up at Alister, seeing as how he'd react.

It irritated how he had fallen in a some what good mood, only to have it be ruined. It now made sense why the maid avoided eye contact with him. Most of the time they would look at him when speaking, but when they carried bad news they wouldn't dare look at him since they feared his angry state. Alister sat there in complete irritation but he barely even showed it. All she did, was simply eat. When it was time for him to actually speak up about it he simply muttered, "That old fart enjoys ******** with me..."

It was silent again and he knew that what he said did not reach her ears since he felt it was rude to cuss in front of a lady but perhaps there was a slight chance she heard, though he hoped she didn't. Alister knew his dad wanted to test him and what not which is what irritated him. There was no point in all of this especially since his brother would soon be king and Alister would not matter in any of this, he was the unimportant prince after all.

" O randomly met one, what chance fortune may reunite us once more? "

Asriel sat in silence for a long time, having lost both her apetite and initiative to talk. Alister seemed pretty pissed off about it. Asriel sipped the tea that the maids served her. It was bitter tasting and still as nasty like the time she drank it yesterday with Alister's mother. However, the maids offered milk and suger where Asriel proceeded in pouring large amounts of each in her cup. After finding the taste of the tea more suitable, she cleared her throat. "Well, we better get going, right?" She asked. The two would leave by carriage to make it to the square.
The carriage, as the two spoke, was being prepared by the stable boys and servants. It was just going to be a quick appearance really. A few words here and there and then they'd be back to get ready for dinner. Asriel clearly didn't know the most of the situation; how deadly the situation was to simply be eating with the Demetrian royal family.

Though Alister wanted to sit here all day rather than go do what his father wanted, he nodded to what Asriel said and stood up. Once more he took her arm in his and lead her to the god forsaken carriage and had her go in before he himself got in. It was obvious that he was in a very foul mood and thus kept his mouth shut because he knew that nothing good would come out and there was no need for him to insult Asriel for no reason and he did tell her he would work on making this relationship work, though at the moment he would rather go out in the woods and shoot a couple things.

The carriage jerked a bit as the horses trotted their way to the square and it was completely silent other than the hooves hitting the cobbled road then simple dirt. What was he to say to her at this moment other than insulting his own family? He sighed heavily and his frustration and irritation could be heard easily. This was simply giving him a head ache for he saw no reason in this at all. Was his father not satisfied enough that he married Asriel for the sake of the treaty? Was he doing this to mess with him and torture him some more even though he's been a while with those whole being in love with a commoner? Alister felt like the blackest sheep in a heard of black sheep.

Asriel busied herself in reading a book, another title she's read twelve times since she received it. It was an interesting tale. It preoccupied her from not paying attention to the awkwardness the carriage seemed to ooze with. Alister's horrid mood helped none either. Asriel sighed. Alister was such a drama queen. The carriage stopped; Asriel looking up from her page. The door of the carriage opened and Asriel stepped outside. She noted the village that surrounded her, no, not village but a bustling city. They were then led to a grand building, something like a city hall. It was very lovely, not nearly as decorated as Alister's home but close to it. This was the capital after all.

Crowds of people later, Asriel and Alister stood on a balcony some high up over a busy, busy street.

"Her, its her."
"Isn’t she of the royal family?"
"No, but isn’t she the neighboring country’s princess?"

Asriel felt unease of the stares she received. Surely she looked like an oddity to them; a bright eyed and lightly haired person unlike the dark features of their own ruling family. "They're staring, Alister," she murmured, looking at them. They seemed to be waiting for the princess to speak. As if to hear what this insolent wench had to say about taking their lovely prince and tainting him with Eurekan blood.

Yes, this seemed to fit one of his nightmares thought it was far different and the people below were people and not the fiery pits of hell. Alister kept his gaze on the crowd as he replied to Asriel as he too spoke in a very low voice. "Well what do you expect, we're married after all and you are probably all they gossiped about the past week, even before you came here." Alister knew he was to speak soon despite that they rather hear his wife speak, but knowing how judgmental his people were, he'd rather do all the talking. With a sigh of irritation he decided to speak rather then not do so and face the consequences of his father later on that night. He spoke loudly for all to hear and he certainly sounded like royalty but he sounded as if he were king already.

"My people of Demeteria you have all gathered today for an important announcement. Standing here beside me and standing before you all is newly wedded wife and not only the princess of Eurekan but your princess as well." He went on about how their marriage ended the war at last and peace would be fall in their kingdom at last, etc etc. After his speech he bid himself farewell to his people and lead Asriel away, back to the carriage so they could head back home. Though he was still very irritated, it was some how masked by his eloquence and the admiration people had towards him.

" O randomly met one, what chance fortune may reunite us once more? "

"To put an end to the severe war, the two countries' royal families set a marriage contract. A peace treaty was tied together by that marriage contract. That tryout peace didn't last more than five years. And again that marriage contract has become tied with that unproductive peace treaty with Demetria's second in line prince Alister. Asriel, Eureka's first-in-line princess, will marry into Alister's family. This is the proof of the peace.
To accomplish this, Euerka's naturally different princess has been sent to Demetria. People whisper about how long i'tll be before she is killed and sent in between the countries."
Rights to the Arcana Manga

Asriel had probably heard that story hundreds of times since she left her tower. And she had to listen rather boringly to Alister's own version of the story. She practically died, her mind gone blank as she listened for what she felt were hours but was in fact half an hour. She didn't object to Alister steering her away from the stares. However, Asriel very much wanted to sight see around the city a little bit longer. Longingly, she looked out towards the streets. She would fit in easily there if she got a cloak.
Asriel glanced at Alister's back. He was still in a bad mood. If she asked to look around, his answer woud probably be a no. She gave a small frown, trudging her feet back to the carriage. But when Alister climbed into the carriage first, Asriel paused. She glanced behind her shoulder, to the life that bustled behind her, and then made a run for it. She bolted down the street first and made a sharp left down an alley. Alister's guards would come looking for her. She wouldn't want to ruin her fun if she got caught so earlu.

It was an opportune chance to see the world for a change. She purchased a cloak from a small vendor, putting the hood over her head. She felt a tad guilty for running away like she did but Asriel was always spontaneous, never one to think out her actions. She soon meddled into the crowd in the local markets. Now that she was disguised, she could roam freeely. With a breath of relief, she found herself oggling at the items the vendors sold, enticed by the craftmanship she only saw in books and paintings.

What surprised Alister the most was the fact that he wasn't surprised by what she did, instead he called his guards off and told them to shut the door. Yep, he would let her roam around and fend for herself out in this village. The carriage went off back to the palace and it soon got there. Everything was normal except for a couple things that were off.

Super would be ready soon and the maid ran frantically around because the Princess was gone, but when she heard news that the carriage was empty, she panicked even more and simply prayed to the lords that the two would arrive soon. The maid assumed Alister went off hunting again since one of his guards told her and Asriel was off in the village in possible danger without her realizing it. It would be a rather stressful day indeed.

" O randomly met one, what chance fortune may reunite us once more? "

[ Cruel Alister, leaving her like that. Made me laugh a bit. I'll make sure she'll have her fun. ]

Asriel blended in quite well, actually. Between many of the commoners, she was actually quite comfortable in the streets. The constant chatter of females and their gossip, the bartering between vendors and potential customers, and the hum of noise eceryone else created with their voices. It was a vibrant feel, a lot to take in all at once. The aroma was filled with sweat and dirt, of hard work and labor. Filled with what merchants sold, of the bakers baking their bread, and of floral arrangements waiting to be picked out by heart driven couples. Asriel found the ideal to be quite pleasant. Were she actually a mindful person, she would've worried about getting back to the carriage and the castle. However, without a thought on time nor frivolous worry, Asriel took her pace in merely observing.

"Get outta da way, girlie," gruff voice shouted behind her. Asriel turned to see the source of the voice and quickly ducked, the beams of wood almost knocking her head off. Asriel tottered off, having lost her balance and bumped into someone. The person bumped into a fruit stall and ended up making a mess with fruits on the floor; apples rolling away and tomatoes splattered. The vendor selling the fruits began screaming insults. Asriel blushed, embarrassed; she didn't know how to further proceed and stood their dumbfoudedly as the vendor shook his fist at her and began picking up his merchandise. The person she bumped into only shook his head in dissaproval. She bowed her head in apology, murmuring how sorry she was. "Jeez. That's why I hate Eurekans. They don't have any manners, thinking they own the seas while they sit all mighty in their oceanside villas. Pfft...They don't understand hard work."
Asriel cringed, hearing the insult and soon ran off. She no longer wanted to be here. She felt that she could feel all the stares she got, boring at her back and trying to peer at her face. No one liked foreigners and though there was peace among the countries, both were still unused to being friendly with each other. As Asriel rushed off, she could feel herself stranger here. Now wary, Asriel tried to go back where she came however, there came about two problems: one, she was lost and two, how she was to get back.
