The palace was in complete chaos but only with the servants as none had the courage to tell the King or the Queen that their son was not back and the Princess was gone, somewhere in the village. If they could all express their feelings to royalty, they would all certainly be pissed at both Prince and Princess. As the noise continued in doors, outdoors was quiet fine and the darken alley ways were far quieter and a bit eerie.

Truth be told, Alister had gotten out of the carriage and told his men to go on without him while he went to retrieve his wife. He told them to tell the maid that he went out hunting which is how it went down. Alister roamed the village in the same fashion as Asriel, wearing a cloak. When she caused a mess, he watched her run off and handed money to the vendor to shut his annoying mouth up. After that, he followed his wife but stayed far enough so she wouldn't spot him. Honestly, Alister was having fun and she reminded him of himself when he was younger when he escaped the palace to roam around the village. He smiled and finally saw her stop.

It was clear that she was lost and had no clue where she would go so he decided to step in. He walked over to her chuckling, "My my my, we sure did have some fun right? Though if you would like, I can shower you to a village much more accepting and warm, it's but a couple feet away from here and will only take us several minutes to reach it." Alister offered his arm like usual, "Would you like to accompany me?"

Asriel disliked it really. At how kind he was being to her. At how he seemed to have just the right timing to find her in such an embarrasing predicament. She knew she should savor his feelings of kindness towards her but the thought of it being forced rather than naturally irked her some. So, Asriel proceed in brushing aside his offered arm; it annoyed her when he did that anyways. As if he knew everything to be able to guide her, a seemingly naive child. And stubborn as she was, Asriel did not give any sign of relief that he was here or that she was happy to have him with her. She was doing fine on her own, right?

Asriel tightened the cloak around her, wary of Alister. "I didn't need your help," she murmured in a low voice but motioned that she'd go with him. "And don't laugh at me," Asriel added with a pout.

Alister looked at her and sighed. All he wanted was her to try like he was, perhaps she took it the wrong way and thought he was forcing this when in fact he was not but what was the point in clearing up that misunderstanding? She ruined his mood and he'd rather leave her here and head back to the castle and resume that life he had before she even came. Yes, she completely turned his mood sour so he did not want to be here at the moment. Though he made his way to the village he spoke of but walked quickly so she would have to walk fast to keep up with him. Alister muttered things to himself expressing how irritated he was but she would be unable to hear anything he was even saying.

Soon, they reached the village, a village that in fact threw festivals every other day and today, they were throwing one. She hated being judged, but she was judging his people as well, making her a hypocrite. These people here were friendly as could be and welcomed the two cloaked strangers. Something about this place made him forget his sour mood a bit and in order to keep her from getting lost, he took her hand, not caring if she didn't want to be lead by him.

" O randomly met one, what chance fortune may reunite us once more? "

Asriel kept quiet. She knew that her stubborness had put him in a bitter mood; she could practically feel it oozing out of him. She watched his back while he walked, his pace quick and having gave up trying to keep by his side, Asriel followed behind him.
He was trying his best, that she could tell, with what he was given. And yet...
And yet they were only married on paper and only husband and wife in name. She was only a possession, only an offering to Alister and his kingdom. Why go through such an extent to make her like him, or even fall in love with him for that matter?

In deep thought, surely Asriel would've gotten lost if it hadn't been for Alister who had taken her hand. It caught her by suprise some. The crowds of people strained their hands' embrace until Asriel tried squeezing through. Her grip on Alister's hand tightened until she found herself brushing against his arm while cheering and celebratory people wafted around them. Asriel felt the welcoming, the acceptance of these people rather than the harshness of the streets. This land surely was versatile and it still amazed her. From the streets where she saw the daily life of workers to this, a friendly bunch celebrating the very fact that they were still living, was like reading something out of a book. All so different and new to her; yet Asriel found herself growing comfortable being here. If only she were born a commoner than the horrid blue blood she so despised.
"What holiday is it? Why are they celebrating?" Asriel asked quietly, looking upon the many people with wide blue eyes.

He continued leading her along until the crowd thinned out and there were less people though only because they were gathered around the food vendors and games people would watch one another play. "It's no holiday. They throw festivals every other days, what they celebrate is life. Out of all the other villages in this kingdom, this is the only place where one can feel comfortable, almost like paradise. Whenever I could, I would sneak out and come here to join in on their festivities. Wait until the sun sets, you'll see how beautiful this place can get." The simple memory of all the lights and all the fun brought his smile on his face again and he let her hand go. He continued walking around letting this place take him back to all his good memories, the little he had.

" O randomly met one, what chance fortune may reunite us once more? "

Asriel relied on the hand heavily to guide her through the crowds until they reached a much more calmer ring of people. She watched Alister as he let go of his hand. He seemed to know so much, seemed to have so many experiences. Watching the light dance in his eyes, to see his delight in rememberance...It was quite a sight to behold. It gave Asriel a pleasant feeling to know he was enjoying himself. And the people...Oh so joyous. Her heart felt so heavy, she felt the sudden need to cry. She wiped at her eyes but tears didn't come. No, she would not cry; she vowed herself not to a long time ago. If only...If only she could've lived a life like this. Oh how she wanted to kill herself then, wanting desperately to be reincarnated into a happier life than her own.

She laughed then. How selfish of her to think of such ideas. Abolishing it from her thoughts, Asriel picked up her pace, following Alister's back. She watched the back of Alister's head, his dark hair blowing ever so softly. Truth be told, Alister was truly a beautiful man. He probably could have any woman he wanted. She could only feel sorry for him to be stuck with her. Finally, Asriel caugh tup, striding by his side. "You were a rebel when you were younger, huh?" Asriel looked at him then with a small smile before looking at the passerbys. She stretched out her arms. "Ah, it must've been nice..." She observed a little boy tossing hacky sacks around.

"Wait!"

Asriel finally remembered at the mention of sun sets. She gave Alister a panicked expression. "What time is it?! The dinner starts at six. We should've been there by now!" She had a mental panic, hitting her head. "I can't believe I forgot," she cursed to herself. "What do we do? What do we do?" Asriel pulled on Alister's sleeve. "We forgot the dinner!"

Alister stopped walking and glanced back at her, by now there were less people since everyone was gathered at the center of the village, watching a small performance. The smile on his face grew a bit more when she began to panic and pull at his sleeve. It almost reminded him of himself when he came her once with his brother, the only time his brother acted rebellious. The two had run off to this village since their father was being unreasonable to his older brother and he simply followed him there. The two enjoyed the day but as the sun began to set, Alister began to panic just like Asriel was and he said the same thing his brother had said to him that day."

"Let's just enjoy the sunset for now, I'll take care of the consequences later." Once more he took her hand as he lead her somewhere before the sun could set. Once they got there, he sat her down on a bench and sat beside her. The cobble road was aligned by many trees. Once the sunset disappeared and dark replaced the day, lanterns on the tree's began to light up and soon the whole cobble road was lit up by these lanterns. Alister smiled by the beautiful view and muttered, "Though you resist my kindness toward you, I'd like you to know that it won't stop me from showing kindness toward you. I'm not forcing myself to do it after all, I want to live a happy life and since you were suddenly thrown into it, I plan on working with it. Perhaps some days we can just be friends if you like," He said last as he stood up and put his hands in his pocket as he simply stared at the end of the road where the lights met, making a bright light as if he were staring at a star.

Asriel didn't want to be disliked. She didn't want Alister's family to hate her as much as her own. So of course, she still worried about it. However, the reassurance Alister held sort of comforted her and she found herself soon calming down after Alister held her hand. She watched her feet, waiting for the redness on her cheeks to fade. Rarely had she felt such kindness from people. It had both surprised her and soothed her. She liked such a tingly feeling.

Asriel was led to a bench where she seated herself. She enjoyed being seated; it was easy on her legs. Placing her hands into her lap, Asriel looked up at Alister for a moment. He was so confident; Asriel admired such a characteristic. She looked at her fingers that played with the sash at her waist, smiling a bit. Making the most at what he was given, ehh? Though he didn't insinuate anything, she couldn't help but feel she was just a burden for him.
She looked up then, the sun now gone and the lights twinkling around them. The lanterns were bright, illuminating the path where they stood. It was a gorgeous sight, obviously one Asriel had never beheld before. She gave a glance towards Alister, who seemed to admire the sight as well. At last, she cleared her throat. She remained seated. "I just..." She paused, "I just want to make sure that you be yourself. If you choose to be a certain way... I won't judge. And though you say you aren't forcing yourself to be kind, I know that being kind to me isn't always possible. I know...I feel that you got put up with an unruly wife and that no one should have to be kind to such a pitiful person." She smoothed out the sash as she played with it, now smoothing the fabric of her pants at her thigh.

His eyes averted away from where he was looking and he was now looking at Asriel. "I know, I won't act kind to you if you do not deserve any kindness as in if you act wicked then I shall treat you how I treat wicked people. For now, I am showing you kindness because you need it, not in a sense that I am pitying you but that you deserve it from someone. I am your husband whether it is something you hate, but one of my duties as your husband is to keep you happy. Trust me, I have a short fuse so I'll be myself whenever someone pushes me the wrong way. For now, just know that I am not forcing myself." Alister looked at her with a serious expression for a moment until he smiled softly and warmly at her.

Yes, Alister would try to make this work, not only for her but for himself. This marriage was something his parents forced him to do and he felt that his parents knew that he would fail at being a husband, he would prove them wrong and even prove to himself that he could learn to love someone again and also learn to show some compassion.

Asriel listened quietly, staring at the floor. She couldn't help but feel better, feeling reassured that Alister wouldn't beat her like she had expected him to. So different than her expectations of her husband. Where he was so passive and calm, she expected greed and arrogance. Though he was sort of cold, he held wisdom and loyalty. The whole day yesterday she waited for him to snap and reveal his wrath. However, not once did this man do so. With wonderment, Asriel looked back up. His smile was so warm and compassionate. She was unused to such kindness. It made her feel uncomfortable. Though the feeling was nice, she couldn't help but feel vexatious.

"I'll take your word for it," she murmured and stood, looking down the path again and up at the trees. "If it only meant being a begger for the rest of my life, I'd easily give up my blood to live here forever," she whispered. If anyone else would've heard that, they'd think of her as mad. It was something she felt very personally, something she thought she could confide with Alister. Since he did mention he'd be there for her to keep her happy, she thought it'd be okay to open herself a little. And only a little to Alister. She didn't plan to love Alister yet much less like him, but one fact was clear: she didn't hate him.

Alister looked at her before looking up at the sky. "Yes, I understand that feeling completely but I just learned to roll with the punches. Now that the war between our kingdoms is settled to a certain degree, I don't have much to do now. The soldiers are all home with their loving families while I sit at home or go hunting. Which reminds me, I'll take you hunting one of these days, I'm certain you are not like normal women and would like to go out and venture." He smiled and chuckled lightly before turning to head back.

"I think it's time we head back now, they're probably out looking for us now," he held his arm out for her to take but in the end it was her choice.

Alister's comment made Asriel laugh a little. She wasn't normal, huh? Asriel smiled to herself, putting her hands behind her back. She ignored his outstretched arm. "Though you say you want to try this marriage out and live your life happily, I'm not looking for you to reach out to me all the time nor am I looking to fall in love any time soon," she commented, striding ahead. She turned a little, not exactly knowing how to get back and waited for Alister to go ahead. With her back to him, she looked ahead with thoughtfullness. Again, Alister's words reverbrated through her head.

The war, physically, appeared over for now. However, Asriel could only feel that the war between the two countries, the animosity and hate between them, were far from over. Think what Alister must, Asriel couldn't shake such a feeling. Her grandfather...Why would he ever submit to a draw? Though the treaty between Eureka and Demetria seemed to have its benefits, allowing him to get rid of his disgraceful princess to the beasts of Demetria and pausing the losing tides Eureka had faced, there was certainly some other reason her grandfather agreed to the treaty. She glanced behind her shoulder at Alister. How would their fates twine together now that the two blood bathed countries seemed to quiet? Asriel's gut told her it would not be for the better.
Quickly she changed her expression from such grim thoughts to a simple, small smile, as if chiding Alister on. Besides, Asriel was hungry.

Alister let out a stifled chuckle when she simply walked passed him but he didn't mind. He would let her do what she felt was comfortable for herself and thus walked on, walking past her as he headed back for the village. His thoughts were right with Asriel's when it came to the war. Though it was "over" he could tell something was brewing on the other but he also knew that his father and brother were up to something as well. It was annoying how he was always left out until the last minutes, most of the times it pissed him off because it would be a situation he had a quick and easy solution to but since he was never given any information, he was simply seen as useless prince compared to his oh so wonderful brother.

Alister had made a name for himself with leading victorious battles but he was still lingering in the large shadow of his brother. Though it didn't bug him as much, he stand in the light rather then be hidden in darkness, being over looked by others and not being respected. Instead of lingering on these thoughts he simply continued on until he saw the carriage they had rode earlier. When the door swung open, he was surprised to see his arrogant brother and his fiance who was secretly obsessed with Alister. Though he was surprised to see them, he did not show it.

"Ah, you finally show your face little brother, none the less hurry in the carriage. You are wasting my time and I can hardly believe that father made me come to drag your a** back home. That wife of yours must have ru-" before he could finish talking Alister cut him off when he walked in.

"Surprisingly I'm the one that ditched her, she came looking for me. Unfortunately mother and father got me to marry a woman who is actually disciplined."

His brother glanced at Asriel once she was in and seated next to Alister. "Is that so? Well perhaps you can help him pull his head out of his a**. I will be sure to tell my father to let the punishment fall all on him. I am sure my mother will be pleased to hear that you went out to seek him out." He then paid no attention to them any more and simply stared out of the window, his fiance sitting there silently, looking at Alister every now and then and throwing Asriel a warm smile when ever they looked at one another but when Asriel wasn't looking, she would throw her a dirty look. The ride home was long and awkward.

Asriel lowered her eyes, feeling very self conscious as she entered the carriage. She looked up then after placing her hands in her lap at the male who spoke to Alister in a brutish tone. Was this what royalty looked like? Alister's brother was surely very handsome but looked nothing like the man seated next to her. His hair was light and his chin looked so angled. The only thing that she felt they had in common was their eyes. The air around him felt so noble and rich, Asriel felt so minuscule sharing the same carriage.

When she found herself staring, Asriel looked the other way, catching a glimpse to the woman next to him. Such beauty! Asriel looked at her hands. She was in a carriage with such lovely people, Asriel felt really out of place. The woman's smile was so comforting and warm, Asriel couldn't help but try to hide her blush.

Yet, the words Alister and his brother snapped at each other struck her as odd. She opened her mouth to say something but closed it. Alister seemed to be lying, taking the blame for being late when it really was Asriel's fault.
Asriel remained silent, watching as Alister's brother believed the lie and spoke to his brother in such an arrogant tone. If it wasn't for his beauty, Asriel surely would slapped him. Such ill words from such delicate looking lips, Asriel could only feel shock.
Was this how Alister lived? Bullied by his brother, ignored by his father, scolded by his mother all while living in the shadow of someone else. That even though Alister achieved the highest medals, he would never shine in the eyes of his family? Asriel didn't pity him, no, but felt rather sad by the thought. She looked up to catch Alister's brother's fiance glancing at Alister before glancing at Asriel and smiling. Asriel felt the strong need to leave the carriage then, feeling as if there was so little room in such a grand carriage. When the carriage stopped, Asriel was the first one out. She stood, waiting for Alister with a rather weary face.

After Asriel got out, his brothers fiance followed though only after Marcus, his brother, told her to take Asriel into the castle and not to wait up for him since he wanted to speak with Alister alone. Alister was in no mood to sit there and listen to his brother talk about none sense though at this very moment it felt as if it was a different matter he wanted to talk about. He felt as if it were serious this time.

Now that they were alone, Alister felt that atmosphere change from loathing to urgency. "What do you want to talk to me about? Get to the point, I can tell that it is something serious."

His brothers face was expressionless for a moment before he narrowed his eyes and sat back, his hand on his lap. "It has to do with the war, you and I both know that it truly is not over. A couple of men that were in your squad during the Campi verdi battle found some interesting weapons by the river in the Legno scuro forest not too far from the kingdom."

"Interesting weapons? I take it they're not from our lands but that of another and seeing that you are talking about the war that is "over" I'm guessing it maybe from the Eureka kingdom. I get all that, what I find interesting is why you are telling me now, you and father normally wait till the last minute to inform me about these things. Is it that bad?"
Alister looked at Marcus also with a serious expression. He began to understand what was going on the more his brother spoke. The two sat there for about three hours discussing the situation at hand.

Alister opened the door and let his brother go out first. Marcus glanced in and added, "Keep this to yourself no one but the two of us know."

Alister stepped out with a puzzled look, "Wait, father does not know?" It was odd that his father didn't know, that man knew everything. This was becoming rather suspicious but he would figure it out one way or another. His brother decided to include him in this, and Alister would be sure to learn about everything.

"That is right, so keep it to yourself!" he answered in a harsh tone as he left, back into the castle. Alister was left there alone to linger on what just occurred.

At last, Alister went back into the castle and straight to the room, knowing that Asriel was there already. He walked into the room and shut the door behind him, sighing softly.
