What will the social impact be of a non-white male pres.?

Our next president, as you all know, may be a black man or a white woman. Please discuss the social impact, nothing else. I don't want any bashing candidates or anything.

I personally want Hillary to win, but I think against McCain she would probably lose. It'd be close though. I think this because she's a woman and because she is married to Bill, which may hurt her.

I could be wrong here, but I think the fact that on the democratic side it's down to either Obama or Hilary shows that society is finally ready for such a change. sure racism and sexism still exists, but the fact that either of them even made it this far tells me that times are changing and in this day and age there are more open minded people out there than not. at least in regards to all the democrats in our country. I dont know about the republicans, but I'm sure that if one of these democrats win, it wont cause major anarchy or anything like that. however, I would be nervous about the possibility of some bigoted maniac attempting to assassinate one of them (especially Obama, I'm afraid), should either win the presidency, which I honestly think will be the case.

I would have to say that im sure that a Republican will not take office. Too many people are upset with how Bush has led the country to let that happen. I personally would like Hillary in office because she is closest to my political ideals (I am a socialist). But Obama isn't far off either, so he would suit me just fine. But, I dont think i could stand a conservative (no matter how liberal he may be) in office again.

well, I have to agree that the risk is certainly there for an assasination attempt. however, i see him winning. first of all, i really doubt the republicans will win after all the crap bush has pulled. secondly, all hillary has been doing is trying to bash on obama.

though if it were hillary, I think that being married to bill would not hurt her. Many people actually still like bill alot, despite the scandal.

some people would stand against her for being a woman, but not too bad. not as at risk as obama would be.

And by the way, he is not a muslim. just throwing that out there.

yeah I know he's not too. but I wouldnt be surprised if the republican side exploits that rumor once Obama wins the nomination.

Yes, but a lot of liberals respect McCain. I think if some people dion't like the democratic choice they may choose him.

My opinion?

If it is McCain v. Clinton, McCain will probably win. Hillary has done nothing but tarnish her reputation from day one. It will require some "maneuvering" on McCain's part, but he will win against Hillary.

If it is McCain v. Obama, Obama will almost definitely win. The message of hope and change is stronger than "We can still win this."

The social impact:

Case 1: Clinton actually does win, going against my prediction. Social implication: Women in general are empowered, and maybe the rest of the world likes the US a bit more (they see us as open minded and free-thinking, as opposed to conservative drones).

Case 2: Obama wins, as I predict (assuming he is nominated). African american men and women feel empowered. It may work that the "black" population of the US finally takes a few more steps towards equallity. Likely though, he'll have to only make that a side note, otherwise the "white" population may begin to feel ignored (and people who erroneously feel mistreated tend to do stupid things).


Both candidates push for some form of government health care, something I am not too fond of to begin with... but I have a feeling that Obama is more likely to get things right. Could just be personal preference shining through... (seeing as I'm somewhere between conservative and libertarian though, I doubt it).
