Is the Lord of the Rings one of the best and most complete literature pieces of the 20th century or what?

I have tried to read the books, but honestly I always get distracted and forget abiout it and start reading something else. I liked the movies.

I've been reading The Fellowship of the Ring for months, in between other books. I think they're great books, but.... They're SO long!

No, it is by no means in and of itself complete. Why does Bilbo refer to it as his old ring? You need to read The Hobbit. Most of the background of Middle Earth is found in several other books.
Great books to be sure butt not a fully complete story as they are only a part of a larger mythology.
