Favorite science-fiction book/author?

CJ Cherryh. any of hers, but especially love the Cyteen trilogy, Tripoint, Hunter of World's, Brothers of Earth, and Merchanter's Luck. oh, and the Chanur series... ^^; ...okay! so I like pretty much anything she writes. Cherryh is my fave author of all time ^-^

Hideyuki Kikuchi for his Vampire Hunter D series and yes it IS a novel.
I suppose Micheal Critchton would be the only other science fiction author I've read... for the Jirassic Park duo and Congo.

but Nightlife by Rob Thurman

its about a teen name Caliban (named after a character from Shakespeare's "The Tempest") and his elder brother Niko who have been trying to keep ahead of demons that have been trying to get Caliban. Their luck runs out in New York when the demons catch up and capture Caliban, Niko struggles for for his brothers sake, almost dying himself. aanything else is plot spoiler.
