Although I still watch anime from time to time, I prefer the manga. Something to look at to pass an hour or so when I'm too bored to do anything else. Easy to carry, and depending on who translates it (and how), the experience is worth every penny.
Some people don't like the overuse of filler episodes, even though the purpose of filler content to allow the manga gain a lead wide enough for the anime to continue. Another reason that it's good to look at manga, no filler content.
Sometimes an anime adaption leaves out some scenes or swaps plot events around, to be used eariler or later in the story (it happened most often in Ranma 1/2, and once in Inuyasha) so that the anime may be pretty different than the manga it is based off of. And should an anime come to an untimely end due to lack of popularity or that the company can't afford to keep the anime alive, there's always the manga to look forward to see what happens next.
