Rare Prehistoric Shark Caught on Camera in Japan - ShortNews

Marine park staff in Shizuoka (Japan) filmed a species of shark, which is rarely seen alive, after they were alerted by a fisherman who described the prehistoric creature as an “odd-looking eel-like creature with a mouthful of needle-sharp teeth”.

The creature turned out to be a frilled shark (also known as living fossils); they live 600 meters (2,000 ft) or more under the sea and have been rarely seen alive. Frilled sharks feed on other sharks and sea creatures.

The captured shark was a 1.6 meter (5 ft) female which appeared to be weak and died shortly after the Awashima Marine Park staff moved her to a seawater pool where she was filmed.

See it on Youtube.
