My mom wants to know the difference between broadband, dsl, and all jazz. I have it here at school, but my mom was thinking of getting it back home and would like to know how it works. 3nodding

By Broadband do you mean cable? If so, here is a good comparison of the two.

Broadband has a higher bandwidth than DSL.
Bandwidth is the amount of data that can be transfered at one time.
Having a higher Bandwidth can make your internet much faster.

I had broadband before and it is INSANELY fast.

Theoretically yes. However, since broadband is mostly through cable companies, the connections will be shared, therefore limiting the amout of bandwidth.

and then you have a case like mine where i got the clearwire wireless hi-speed or broadband or whatever. the bottom line is you subscribe to at your nearest dealer, you get a box with the equipment[containing the "antenna", an ethernet cable and the AC power unit] you go home with it, plug in the proper stuff, and open up your internet browser and you're "good to go!"[/tacobell] and the best part of it all is that easy to set up, easy to take out and you can use it just about anywhere they have coverage!

The term Broadband is typically used to describe a very fast Internet connection, usually a bandwidth of at least 500 kilobits per second, or kbps. Recent advances though have added T1 lines and fiber optics to the list that makes up "Broadband" speed, which will get typically get you at least about 1 megabit per second, usually down. For your mom's knowledge, down refers to what the computer gets from a source, better known as the download. Up, or uploading, is the speed at which your have a file that goes to another computer or capable device.
