I really dislike install new operating systems. I spent most of today trying to install two different ones, Ubuntu, which in the end did not work at all, after I spent about 5 hours trying to get it to work, and SuSE, which is now installed, but it won't boot up properly. So, I have just given up on Ubuntu, and am going to stick with SuSE. Ah, in case anyone was wondering Ubuntu and SuSE are two different distributions of Linux.

If you want it to work(and have a current OS installed):

First, have a floppy drive.(If you don't... this will be tough)

2, insert empty floppy

3, open "My computer"

4, r-click on floppy icon

5, select "format..."

6, select "Make DOS startup Disk"

7, Do it.

8, restart computer

9, DOS starts up

10, type "Fdisk [drive name-eg. I:, C:... ect]

11, !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This will delete all data on the drive !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

12, wait

13, type "shutdown s" or just shutdown the computer with a click of the button

14, eject floppy

15, insert OS installation CD

16, follow instructions

17, get on the internet and download patches, kernals and updates

18, download and install all wanted programs not currently installed

19, obtain all updates for programs

20, Disk cleanup, Defrag (neither apply to Ubuntu) and chkdsk

Done

If you want it done differently, pm me

Hm, I've never had trouble myself. On the other hand, I haven't installed very many new OSes.
