Kids at my school are making fun of me and my friends because we like and draw anime. Dont get me wrong, I love anime and manga, and my drawing isn't that bad, but everyday, different people say that what I draw is against God. They say that if I hate America that much then I should go back to Japan. I'm full blown American, but the kids always hate me because of what I like! Is Anime and Manga really against God or is pro-terrorist? I dont get it. Can you help me out a bit, give me some advice?

i think the kids at your school are being stupid. Anime and manga themselves aren't bad, it's more of the content. And this goes for anything, music, movies, books. The things themselves aren't against God, it's what's in them, and how much time you spend reading them. If you're a Christian, and spend more time reading manga and watching anime then you do with God, then that's bad. I would list things like hellsing as directly against God. I don't know if you're a Christian, but if you are, you probably know what is acceptable and what isn't, so if something you know is wrong is in a manga or anime and plays a large part or whatever - than you probably shouldn't be involved in it. So again, individual content, not generalization. And I'll say it once more, kids are stupid, always have been, always will be. Ignore them and enjoy the friends you have. =)

I dont read stuff like Hellsing, to tell the truth, it scares the crap out of me. But I am Christian, but not a real *shove Jesus down your throat* Christian (not trying to make a rasicts comment...) But As much as the kids annoy the heck out of me, the fact that theres someone new everyday saying it to me, it just gets under my skin. It just makes me think that maybe their right...*shrug*

Yeah, I completely understand. I used to go to a Christian school and the people there were always getting on my for reading fantasy. So just be careful what you read I guess, and the next time someone says that you'll be able to say that no, you don't read manga that goes against your religion (because it's undeniable that there are some out there. . .). And they're not right, they're wrong. You've just got to learn that people will always mock what is different, and continually go after it and against it. But sometimes, people grow up, and you've just got to wait for them to get there. . .Good luck, I think you've got some thick skin, you'll pull through alright wink

Those people in your school are ignorant. Anime and manga are not against God and The United States. So what if most manga originates from Japan. Japan is one of our allies, it's not like their a bad nation. Also, there are a lot of things that are imported from other countries, not just manga and anime, yet you don't see people saying you're against the US for buying electronics that were made in China.
As for anime and manga being against God, well that depends on what religion you are and what your take is on the content and all that. There are plenty of anime and manga out there that would be considered blasphamous, but there are tons that are not.
The people in your school are just being stupid and singling you out because you are into something that is not a social norm. But don't let that bother you. You like what you like, and there is nothing wrong with that. If they cannot be civil towards you and treat you decently just because you read manga and watch anime, then they are definately not worth your time and energy.

Anime and Manga are not bad. I mean there are some that might be but overall not bad at all. And regilon, well sometimes they can be wrong (please note I am agnositic ((( believes might be God but there might not)) ) And if anyone would care to notice Jpan is not few regilious at all since the last world war. So unless they are stating in the manga they are against a certain religon there is nothing to be afraid of. I do remember though that someone told me that Hilary Cliton thought mangas and animes are bad and wanted to get rid of them for their volince and graphic content. Has she ever read Kilala Princess (Japanese crossed over with Disney ((kids book)) ) or even consider the amount of porno books in libraries and bookstores that aren't mangas?

I don't think its question of Anime and Manga being bad but what your take on the content that makes it bad. Alot of Manga or Anime are filled with non to subtle themes, one of the hugest is child pornography. Yes the theme's are against god, but there are so many worst things out there, some of the things on Tv and in magazines are ten times worst. Lyrics in friggin songs are ten times worst than any manga or anime. Also, Just because you read Anime/Manga more than you go to church or read the bible doesn't mean thats bad, depending on your religion, I'm a christian and yet i read mangas that use christian motifs for their plot and i don't think its bad, because ulitmately, My fate isn't what other people tell me, It's only God's and Christ right to Judge me and since no one knows God personally then they shouldn't speak for him

Well, just saying, I'm an American Catholic, and I don't believe that anime and manga are against God and America at all. Sometimes the stories do poke fun at America (like the U.S. president in Death Note and Wedy, who rocks but is supposed to be a parody of the Hollywood American), but the fact that they are even allowed in America actually says something great about the country itself: that it can tolerate mild jesting without blowing up in one's face. That's what the freedom of speech is for, isn't it?
As for manga being against God, well, quite a few stories I've read have had some motifs which were slightly anti-religious, but I don't mind them at all, because there's not harsh bashing, which annoys me to tears.
I think it rests more along the lines of the generalization that anime = pornography, which is a fallacious assumption on their part, because almost all the manga I've read and adored has not had a single bit of nudity in it.
So, in conclusion, I really don't think that anime and manga are the horrible things your classmates tend to say they are, it just depends on what type of anime or manga you have access to.

Manga and anime are like any other form of art or literature, it depends on the artist and the story. It isn't inherently against any god or religion, although there are some series that are, but that doesn't mean that all of it is bad. That's like saying that all books are against God, or all art.

really i think that the kids that are making fun of you are looking for someone to pick on. Since you have interests that they don't understand, they're going to terrorize you for it. Don't worry about what they say because they're basically making up excuses and reasons to ostracize you.
anime and manga being 'against god' is pretty silly anyways. can anyone truly say that they fully understand the will of god? If there is a god then i think that god would want us to be happy and do things that we like to do as long as it's not hurting anyone else.
As for being "anti-american" that narrow mindedness and lack of acceptance of other cultures being equal to ours is really horrible.
just ignore them and don't worry. you're not doing anything wrong

that's stupid... They're stupid.... reading manga is not a sin against god... As long as it doesn't have bad content then there is no problem with it... Anyway, they're just like comic books... Nobody goes around saying that Spiderman or Iron Man is a sin against god...

Ignore them as much as you possibly can.
I know this is hard, but try your best.
Find something they like/do and say it's against god. Shove their own cereal down their throats. (Don't bug me about cereal, I'm hungry.)
They're stupid. COMPLETELY stupid. Manga and anime are NOT against god in anyway. . . god wishes us to be equal, but they look down on you.
We are wished to be more like others... reading manga like Japanese sure does that. They just don't like it because it isn't from America... it's just been placed into America and they don't like that.
