So, I have a friend who works with me on a comic strip, she draws them and I write them. A couple of days ago we were hanging out at the mall and noticed a sticker that said: "Cheer up, emo kid" and on the side there was an emo smiley face. Right there and then we decided our next comic strip would be a sort of parody, about an emo with a positive attitude and a cheerful outlook on life.
Now, here's what I need from you: in order to build the character reliably we need, among other things, to have some sort of grasp on the kind of music he (or maybe she, haven't decided yet) will listen to. We're looking for bands that belong to the Emo genre but are, at least to some extent, bright/happy/cheerful and the likes. I get that such bands are rare but I figure there have to be some. So far we thought of "The Weepies" because they combine depressing lyrics with jolly music. If anyone knows a band that might fit what we're looking for, please tell me.
Thanks in advance biggrin

Well I don't really know of any bands like that....but there is a song by The Beatles called "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" that fits the description. It's about a guy killing people with a Silver Hammer, but the music is really jolly-sounding. But that's all I know of. x)

Some kind of sickeningly happy pop maybe?
Perhaps something along the lines of Barbie Girl by Aqua...

Yes, Barbie Girl is quite sickeningly happy. So is Best Friend by Toy Box. So yeah...
There's also some emo-sounding Christian bands. Like John, What's Your Name Again? by The Devil Wears Prada. It sounds all screamo at the beginning, but it's a Christian band, so the lyrics are all....happy, I guess.

Though I would hate for this band to be in any part ridiculed, you could use The Shins. Perhaps the Weakerthans. And you could definitely use Bis. I don't care if you ridicule Bis. -Snickers- Maybe even Wilco, to a point. The Faint would also be good.
..Are you planning to ridicule the bands used at all? D: If you are, I'll suggest some that fit but aren't *good*. xD
Use the Killers if you want to ridicule.
