I seem to be running out of fantasy books to read (OHNOES!!). So I wondered if anyone could tell me some of their favorites, or just some that they recommend.

If you can, could you please state the title, author, and a little bit about the book? That way other people could look at this for fantasy book ideas, too. ^_^

Here're some of mine:

Beauty, by Robin McKinley
^Retelling of 'Beauty and the Beast'.
The Fairy Godmother, by Mercedeys Lackey
^This is a GREAT book... kind of like a 'Dealing with Dragons' style. My favorite book EVER.
Pretty much any Valdemar book by Mercedeys Lackey....

There are a lot more... but my brain doesn't feel like working right now... lol.

...I like the following:
The Last Herald Mage trilogy by Mercedes Lackey
The War of Souls trilogy by Tracy Hickman and Margaret Weis
Eragon and Eldest by Christopher Paolini.
The Lost years of Merlin series. (Don't remember the author.)
Harry Potter (who doesn't?)
Anything else in the Dragonlance series with the exception of the Minotar Wars
There's a bunch more, but I'm too lazy to get off my computer and look on my bookshelf....
Battle Royale scifi/fantasy....possibly one of the best books that I have ever read.

I would suggest anything by R.A. Salvatore.

If you read his entire series of somewhere around 12 related books, make sure you start on the book Homeland.

Wow you beat me to that one.

Others I like:

Terry Goodkinds Sword of Truth series. (Thats what Annisea was talking about)

George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series.

The Wheel of Time is a good series. And I am quite suprised there's no mention of J.R.R. Tolkien yet.

#1 Fanstasy book in my opinion is The Silmarilion.

I find Terry Goldkind offensive for some reason.
George R.R. Martin is talented.

..I suppose my favorite fantasy novel would be "Northern Lights" by Philip Pullman. I really enjoyed reading it, and I think I finished it in four or five days..

I also like the Belgariad and Malloreon series by David Eddings, mostly because of the characters and the minor detains within the novels rather than the main plot itself, since the existance of pure good and pure evil in fantasy fiction (and in anything else, really) seems too cliché and unrealistic..

Used to be a big reader but haven't gotten into many books lately. Love the Inheritence trilogy by Christopher Paolini but aside from that I haven't spent much time reading lately. Mainly been working on my own book.

Most of my favorites have been said, but there's one I read quite recently that is soooooooooooooooooo awesome. It's called Twilight and it's by Stephenie Meyers. This book is about vampires and it is quite possibly the best book around. Also, the fact that the main character is hot helps. biggrin Also, there's a sequel out to it right now called New Moon, also very good, I think I like the sequel better prob. only because I'm in complete lust with the main character Jacob!
