what about thank you? i know it's arigato, but a girl once told me it wasn't. she said it was the whole phrase "domo arigato kossai mas" [not sure if i misspelled or anything. do correct me if u know ^__^]. so, which one is it? she said the whole phrase meant 'thank you very much" and arigato was "very"...but i don't really believe her...can anyone tell me? xd

"Doumo arigatou gozaimasu" is a formal way to say "thank you very much."
どうもありがとうございます

"Doumo" means "very", "arigatou" is "thank you", and "gozaimasu" makes it polite.
"Doumo" can also be used as a casual way of saying "thanks."
