Prolouge:
It has been five years since Daimon Masaru and Agumon defeated Ygdrassil in an epic battle which determined the fate of the digital and human worlds. Yoshino, Ikuto, and Touma have returned to their normal lives, and Masaru followed Agumon and the others back into the digital world, in hopes of finishing what his father, Sugaru, had started years ago.
Back in the real world, the Digital Accident Tactics Squad, or DATS, still existed. Although they seemingly had disperssed after sending their partners back to the digital world, various members from branches all over the world began to regret that their old lives and adventures. Thus they slowly came together, in an attempt to bring Digimon back to the real world.
Though they could not open the gate again, they were still able to franchise them quite well. The division known as Hypnos developed a virtual pet with all their data that they got from previous adventures. An animated series came about, depicting the adventures of 8 young Digi-destined, and even a card game and toys were developed for the new digimon franchise.
At the same time, various other DATS squads kept an eye on the digital world. It seemed that since the fall of Ygdrassil, the digimon took it upon themselves to appoint each other as "gods." Thus the four Digimon sovergns, and the 12 devas that serve under them were created. Along with Masaru and the Royal Knights, they soon became a more-or-less stable governing force for the digital world.
However, order cannot come without chaos. Filled with wonder about the power of "burst mode", digimon began to expirement with evolution. A strange digimon known as Dorumon carried an X-antibody, a strange chemical which allowed digimon to recieve an altered form. DATS was amazed by this, and began to expiriment with modification themselves. They installed tiny microchips into a new batch of trading cards, which would expirimentally alter digimon, should the need arise.
Now a new age of Digimon has began, filled with the mysteries of evolution....
