Chapter one, The awakening
Black was all I saw. Death was all I sensed. This terrible feeling had come over me, a certain numbness that wouldn't disappear. I felt no hunger, I felt no thirst. I felt nothing. I didn't feel the warmth of the fire, of caress of the wind, the wind I loved before. I didn't feel the salt on my face, and didn't taste the tang on the air. Whenever I went outside, the feeling worsened, if anything. It seemed as if I was stuck in time, while everyone else was following the usual ebb and flow. My family and friends had died long ago, and I didn’t understand why I still lived. I couldn't distinguish days from nights, minutes from hours. Every thing was a bleak gray, and I was oblivious to all around me. I closed my eyes, and I saw death grinning at me sardonically. "Hello Terreta." I opened my eyes; the name ringed a bell. I saw a man, with the same cynical grin. He had messy black hair, and eyes the color of blood. Skin as white as snow. He was tall, taller than me. Though I couldn't tell the exact height. He stood there like he was waiting for me to say something. "My, you look pale. Have you taken a look in the mirror?" My eyes slid over to the only mirror in the room, which was covered up. "You're afraid of what you might see?" He questioned me. I still held my tongue, as I had for years. "So quiet….and so young." I felt old, older than time. He placed a pale hand on my face, and it was colder than the already cold feeling that embraced me. "Can you speak?" He said, genuine curiosity. "What a state he's left you in. " I knew he was trying to get me to talk, but I wouldn't. "You've been tortured into being a mute, haven’t you?" Still I said nothing. I just stared at him with my dull, black eyes. His eyes stared into mine, hypnotizing me. I saw nothing but his red eyes, and for a moment, I could move. I broke his gaze. "You'll be very powerful, once you've awakened. Right now, you're in a dream." I nodded slowly, for whatever reason. Nothing seemed real at all. I wanted so desperately to just fall back and rest forever. I'd rather die than endure this. "A reaction. You have barely enough blood, I'm surprised you've lasted this long. " Blood? It rang another bell. "You've been in this state for years, yet you are so young. You've frozen in ice, preserved completely in your humanity. I can melt that ice….But your humanity would melt as well. Do you wish it?" My mouth opened, then closed. Before I had finished nodding, he was upon me, and suddenly I felt pain in my neck, a horrible piercing pain, and everything turned crystal clear. I cried out in pain. I felt like the very life was being drained out of me, what life was left, and I realized I had felt this before, or at least similar. I realized that this main was a vampire, and he was drinking from me. He was holding me in his arms, and his fangs were buried in my neck. I was about to pull away, when it became almost soothing. I was floating on clouds, and I was relaxed. It didn't matter. This feeling was wonderful. Everything was slowly drifting away….Like it all was a far off dream. No! I wouldn’t loose the sharp image that had come with the pain. I struggled with him and he let me go. I fell back, dizzy from the loss of blood. He wiped his mouth, and he was less pale than before. He grinned, teeth cruelly sharp and stunningly white. "Your blood was delicious. " Was all he said. I glanced around, and everything was seen in sharp, icy precision. "Now, you drink from me." I had a puzzled look on my face. He had taken out a knife, and cut his wrist, red blood pulsing out. I couldn't control myself, and I was at his wrist in an instant. I drank the fluid without thinking, and it rushed into me, filling me. It was delicious, like the most precious wine. The taste rushed over my tongue and I couldn't stop drinking. The vampire pulled his wrist away from me, and I fell to the floor. "Control yourself!" He said in a commanding and angry voice. "I am your master, and you will address me as so. " My eyes looked back at him defiantly. "I haven’t gotten you name, master." I said the master part rather mockingly. I listened to the sound of my voice, which I hadn't heard for years. It sounded clear, and soft. He looked at me ignoring my tone. "Memoirmente. I will rename you. You are no longer Terreta. In fact, you never were." He grinned. "You shall be known as Talonica." "You don't own me. You have no right to rename me." I snarled at him. He smacked me, knocking me back. "I have every right to rename you. And you should show me respect." I stood up, and looked behind me. I had to get out of here no matter what. I threw myself through the window, leaving me with dozens of cuts and shattering the window into dozens of pieces. I ran through the pouring rain, as fast I could at the time. It was impossible to tell what time of day it was, and I couldn't tell where I was going. All I could see was the rain, and all I could feel was the rain, cold and icy to my skin. Finally, I simply dropped to the ground on my knees in hopelessness. I lay on my side, weeping. I couldn't do anything else. I wanted to die, or at least fall into some sense of darkness. I laid on the cobblestone street, with no sense of who I was, or where I can from. As a figure approached me, darkness enveloped me, and I could see no more.
Only to destroy my sanity
