Background: Lyrrh was abandoned atop a mountain at age six by his parents, who, fearing for his life, knew of no haven for their child. Hungry and frightened, young Lyrrh was found by Orphaelus, a bitter and world-weary hippogriff. Orphaelus, having lost offspring of his own, took Lyrrh in and raised him as his own. Years later, when Lyrrh was almost a man, he made a pact with Orphaelus, giving his color to the hippogriff.
