how do you know
that your in love?

is it when you meet them
for the first time,
look them straight in the eyes,
and instantly become freinds?

is it when you've spent
over a year with them, and
you've gotten along
great with them?

is it when your friends pester you
to tell them "who you like"
and you promised to give them
an answer?

or is it when you tourture yourself
with everything about them,
their face, their voice,
their smell, their touch?

is it when you begin
to write poetry
speaking directly about them
and revealing what you think of them?

is it when you secretly give them
a christmas present
that you know they'll like alot
because you feel as though its what you should do?

or is it when you procrastinate
untill the last day you'll see your friends
and tell them
whom you're attracted to?

would it be when you both
are at a social dance
but you both are too nervous
to do anything at all?

would it be when
you see them in clothing
that makes your knees shake
and makes you want to openly comment on them?

or would it be when
they willingly sepend an entire day of merry-making
with you
and you cant get any words out of your mouth?

is it when you hug them
and know what its like to be held close?

is it when they tell you
that they are attracted
to someone else
and you feel jelous?

would it be when
you unintentionally trick their best friend
into telling you
that they actually like you?

would it be when the last day you see them passes
and they contact you over the summer
to check up on you, tell you how their doing,
and say that they want to keep in touch with you?

is it when you find out they totally change their personality
after the summer ends, and it confuses you to no end?
or is it when they stop talking you abruptly
for no reason that you can think of?

will it be when you swear to yourself that you wont stop thinking of them
untill the leaves stop falling
the wind stops blowing
and the sun stops rising?

will it be
when every single memory of them
is slowly dying in your mind,
and your dying to see them again?

or would it be when your reading this,
and actually thinking if you "love" that person?
