[RANT] When ever, What ever, How ever, I'm Me. |

I have often sat and pondered what it is I could have been, had I been born in another place, or in another time altogether.
Had I been born in the distant past (anytime prior to 15th century anyway), I envision that I may have been a bit of a Wildman. Living off the land, hunting and gathering, that sort of thing. No one to bother me, or get in the way. No one to tell me what to do, or how to do it. Just me, and whatever animal companions I managed to make friends with.
Maybe in the future I could have even more successful than I have been now. I do seem to have a natural affinity for electronic stuff, but only now in this late hour is it beginning to truly spread to every corner of our lives. What if I had been immersed in technology from the beginning? The wonders.
Of course, after a little bit, reality (oh, cruel mistress that she is) comes along and whacks me upside the head. Had I been born in the distant past, I would have probably been dead by the old age of 25. Either from disease, or falling off a mountain, or eaten by one of my animal friends when the hunting got lean. The future? If I had been immersed in technology from such a young age, I would probably be even more lazy than I am now. Hell, I may have never left my room, much less the house.
So then I realize that the when and where of your existence are what guide you to what you become. Born earlier or later, and I would have been a completely different individual, unrecognizable to the person I am now. And not only that, but the times in which I live are the times I was meant for, the times that all are meant for are the ones in which they find themselves. The hard part is trying to find exactly what it is we are meant for in these times. But it's also the fun part.
But hey, somewhere back in 15th century Italy, there was probably a guy wondering what would have been had he been born a few centuries later. Or maybe by the year 23XX, there will be some dreamy kid, who will imagine living the glory days of the past, when people had to use things like keyboards.
I am where I belong, whether I know it or not. So are you, as are we all. Only thing we can do is make the best of it. But hey, we humans seem to be good at that.
