Chapter 1 - Lost in an Unfamiliar World
A storm had moved across the Oradon Ocean making it’s way to land. The waves were rough and thunder sounded threw the sky as lightning crashed down. A young merboy didn’t notice the storm. He was off in his own little world under the waves near the shallow waters close to shore. He was collecting his favorite thing in the world; sea shells. Normally when a storm hit’s the young boy knows to head straight home but he wasn’t anywhere near home. It wasn’t until the storm got closer to shore did the boy realize what was happening. The water picked up and the waves got bigger. The young merboy grew scared and tried to swim back out to deeper waters but the waves kept pulling him closer. Soon he got caught in a giant wave. He was now trapped as the giant wave carried him past the shore and into a forested area. He smacked into a tree and soon the wave retreated back into the ocean it came from. Though it left behind a young merboy unconscious in the middle of this forest of palm trees and bushes. When the young merboy woke up he groaned. He then looked around to see he wasn’t in the ocean. He was on land. Panic struck him and he tried to sit up but his arms were bound. His heart raced and he looked around. He tried to understand what was going on. He could feel something wet covering his tail. When he looked down to see what it was he noticed what looked like a soaked blanket. Blinking in confusion he wondered what was going on. It was then he noticed something else. He was moving and no longer on land. He was on something cold and hard. More panic ran threw this poor young merboy and he didn’t understand what was going on. He just knew that he had to get back to his home. But where was home? Were was he? He had no knowledge of human things or even the human world. He didn’t know what was going on. When the moving stopped he heard a weird language and blinked. So this is what human’s sounded like? But what were they saying? He did hear a word that he understood one word, ‘merboy’. So they were talking about him? Why? What did they want with him? He started to struggle. His shoulder length white hair streaked with a pretty deep sky blue and lime green moved in front of his deep sky blue eyes. He blew it out of his face and wiggled more. He had to get out of here. He didn’t even know how long he had been out or where he was. He didn’t care at this point in time, he just wanted to get out. When a bright light suddenly shown, the young merboy squinted and blinked in confusion. Soon he was grabbed and dragged; not so kindly he might add, out of what ever he was in and dropped on the floor. He winced and looked around. He saw two humans looking at him with twisted looks on their faces. This scared him and he wiggled trying so hard to get free. But he was still in his merboy form. He needed his human form to get away in this place. So how was he going to do this?
The men seemed to realize they couldn’t carry him the whole way so they took off the blanket and let his amethyst colored tail dry. Once he wasn’t wet anymore he closed his eyes and his tail disappeared only to leave two human legs in it’s place. The young now boy smiled. When they helped him up he wobbled. Ok new question. How the hell do you work these things?! The men didn’t care if he knew how to walk or not and dragged him making him learn pretty quickly. Soon he got the hang of it but not without hurting his new feet in the process. Though when he saw a triangle thing he looked confused. What the hell was that? He heard one of the men speak and then run down his side. This scared him and out of fear, he kicked both of them. He fought and when they let go he dashed as quick as he could away from them. Now he knew what they wanted and he wasn’t going to allow this!
He kept running untill he slipped and fell sliding down a hill. He screamed and closed his eyes until he landed at the bottom. Looking up he noticed the men didn’t fallow. He sighed and carefully got up before he started to limp and, as quick as he could go, began to walk straight. He didn’t know where he was going just as long as it was away form them. Tears formed in his eyes. His body hurt. He was lost, dirty and covered in scratches. He just wanted to go home… He continued to walk hoping maybe he could find something to free his hands and try and find his way back to the ocean and then back home.

A seventeen-year-old boy stood by the highway as his camera rested on its tripod. He carefully positioned it as he tried to get the perfect shot. His brown hair, short in the back and just below his eyes in the front, glistened from the bright sunlight reaching over the hill. He sighed as he moved back from his camera. The perfect shot always seemed so hard to get. Either too much light or not enough, the position doesn’t seem right, or you just get thrown off by the scenery. No matter what the reason, he always seems to capture the perfect shot in the end.
His darkish green eyes sparkled with a bit of light green this morning. He grabbed his mug of coffee as he took a small sip. Another sigh escaped from his soft lips as he returned to his camera. “Alright. Time’s a wasting. Better get this done now so I can head back.” He slightly moved the camera as he smiled. “Perfect.” He snapped the shot as he moved it slightly once more. Two more clicks sounded as he pointed it in one more direction. A fourth click sounded as his eye seemed to freeze in the sight.
“What the…” He zoomed in as he tried to make out a small figure moving around the bottom of the hill. A small, naked boy ran across the bottom of the mountain. The boy packed up his camera as he quickly placed it in the trunk of his dark grey Porsche. He reached in the back seat as he pulled out a dark brown, shoulder strapped bag and locked the doors. He started running down the mountain trying his best not to fall.
“Hey, kid!” He began to chase after the boy after reaching the bottom of the mountain. The child began to run faster as the boy reached out his hand, waving it in the air. “Hey, hold up! I’m not gonna hurt you, I just want to make sure your alright!” He yelled with no success. The boy must be too preoccupied to hear him. “Boy, this kid has a lot of stamina.” He began to run faster as he tried to catch up to the kid.
The child turned as he yelled out a strange language. This caught his attention. “What… did he say?” He said, confused as he continued after the kid. It wasn’t long before the child tripped over his own feet, falling to in the ground as he struggled to get back up. The boy caught up as the child tried to take off once more.
Oh no you don’t!” The boy said as he tackled the kid back to the ground. The child yelled and screamed as he tried to hit the boy. “Ouch! Stop! Please!” He got up as the child struggled to rise. His hand reached out at the kid looked at it curiously. “I’m trying to help you. You know, H-E-L-P.” The boy reached into his bag as he pulled out a jacket and a pair of shorts. He placed the jacket over the boy as he handed him the pants, gesturing on how to place them on. Once he was dressed, the boy smiled.
“Good. It looks like you understand… well, for the most part. I’m Xander. Though everyone calls me Zel.” He said with a smile. The boy eyes him curiously. He didn’t seem to pose a threat. “What’s your name? Name?” He points to the boy as he tried to see if he knows what he’s asking.

The young boy kept walking huffing as he did. He soon found some rocks and blinked some. They looked sharp and could brake the things around his wrist. He carefully walked to them before kneeling down. He found a sharp pointy section and started to rub the things around his wrists against it. Soon they snapped and he rubbed his wrists. With that off his list he now had to find a way out of this place. He heard a noise and got scared and started running again. He looked behind him to see nothing fallowing but still he wasn’t taken a chance. He was so scared and nervous he didn’t know where he was or what all this was. He was never taught about the human world.
Soon he relaxed and started normally calming down enough to look around. So what was all this? He knew what rocks were. They were in the ocean too. He knew what caves were. But what was the green stuff? And the brown? It seemed weird but not a bad weird. He then heard a noise and then a human voice. This made him scared and start running again. He was shaking and when he heard them catching up he pushed himself to run faster. He wasn’t going to get taken again he wasn’t going to do what they wanted. He just wanted to get home. Why couldn’t they just leave him alone?! He heard the human speak again but he didn’t stop. He didn’t understand he didn’t want to.
Hearing him still fallowing, The young boy looked over his shoulder and started to try and talk to him, “leave me alone! I just want to go home!” This seemed to slow him down some but it didn’t stop him. Though him not paying attention he tripped over his own feet and feel face first into the ground. This made him wince and he tried desperately to get up. He could hear the human getting closer. He couldn’t let him get him. He wouldn’t go back. He wouldn’t go back. He just wanted his home. He wanted his nice safe home. He had just gotten up and tried to get up again before he felt pressure behind him and he was down on the ground once more. He screamed and fought hitting and kicking anything he could reach. No he was not going he wasn’t going! Tears wanted to fall but he wasn’t going to cry now.
When he felt the other get off him and he relaxed as he struggled to get up again. He looked at him with nervously and yet curiously. What was he saying? He wasn’t trying to hurt him or that so was he a nice human? He watched him pull out something from the thing around him and he backed up nervously. When he saw the things he raised an eyebrow and blinked. Taking them he looked at them confused and then watched the human explain how they were put on. So they wore them? What were they? He did as he was taught and then looked at him self. They were comfortable so that wasn’t bad. It was just weird.
The young boy heard him talk more and blinked some. He heard a name, ‘Xander’ So what that the human’s name? It had to be since his name wasn’t Xander it was Adrian. Though he heard another name, ‘Zel’ which was his name? Zel or Xander? He looked at the human with a confused look and then when he pointed to him he blinked a bit. Was he asking his name? he didn’t speak human. He didn’t know how. How was he going to tell him his name if he didn’t even know how to talk to this human? It wasn’t like he had his name written down somewhere. Then it hit him. He did have something his choker!
Adrian’s hand went to a silver choker with a circle matching pendent. On the front of the pendent was an “A” on the front but on the back had his actual name. Adrian bit his lip and then took off his chocker. Nervous he moved closer to the human; not knowing what name to call him, and turned it around to showed him. There in silver was the name ‘Adrian’ on the back. He then took it back quickly and put it back on so he couldn’t take it from him. He then fiddled with his hands and watched him more taking in his looks. Xander; yes he was calling him that, had brown hair and green eyes. His hair style was interesting. It was much more define compared to his messy shoulder length white hair. He ran his hand threw said hair and twirled his finger around a Lime green streak still taking him in. he didn’t seen like he was going to hurt him so he didn’t run. Maybe he could get him back to the ocean.

Zel admired the pendent on the necklace for the short time he held it. It was done with such amazing craftsmen ship. “Adrian?” He smiled at the child as he fiddled with his hair. Zel pointed up the hillside to his car, insisting that this was where they needed to go. His hand reached out to the child as he smiled. He lightly held it as he began to lead him up the hill.
“Almost there…” Zel said as he held the hand of the boy tightly so he wouldn’t slip back down. He kept smiling as the boy seemed to almost blush. They reached the highway as he moved up to the car, the boy seeming a bit scared of the vehicle.

Adrian nodded and then watched as Xander pointed up the hill. He looked up and then back at him. He wanted to take him up? Was he going to help him? Should he trust him? Then again he hasn’t hurt him yet. Or even tried to do what the other men had tried to do to him. So he figured maybe he could trust him a little bit. When the other held out his hand, he slowly took his hand and fallowed him up the hill carefully. He slipped some but nothing to bad. He wasn’t use to this. He had just learned to walk and run not to long ago. So all this was new to him. But when the other held his hand tighter so he wouldn’t fall a small smile and blush showed on his face. He was making sure he was ok? Maybe Xander wasn’t so bad after all. He just now had to figure out how to talk to him. He spoke his language and Xander spoke human. So this would be hard and he doubted that him pointed and stuff would work forever.
When they finally made it up the hill and Xander started to lead him to the vehicle and he froze. No the men had him in one of those and it ended up bad. Adrian pulled away from Xander and shook his head not wanting to go near that thing. Xander was trying to explain but he didn’t understand. He didn’t know what the hell this thing was or what it did. He just knew that it moved you. He looked at him and bit his lip. He started shaking and hugged his arms close to him. Nope he wasn’t going in or near that thing. He didn’t care how much he was starting to trust Xander. No, no, no. He looked at him again and pointed to the direction he came from and then pointed to the car. He then pointed to Xander trying to explain that men took him out here using a different kind of one of those.
Xander seemed to look confused and Adrian sighed and thought of how to explain this. He then tried his own version of charades to try and tell him of what happened to him so far. He tried to tell him of how he got on land and then what that happened when he woke up. Lucky for him he was quite good as charades since he played it a lot with his older siblings. But come things he was having a hard time with since he didn’t know what things were. But he figured it out. When he was done he watched Xander to see if he understood. He panted since that had tired him out. He must have looked stupid but you know when you can’t speak the language you find something else to do.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Zel, however, was not as skilled in charades. In fact he seemed more confused then ever. Something about fish, a bigger car, other people, and wanting to go home which was about the only part that made sense to him. Still, he could tell Adrian didn’t trust the car. Zel began by opening the passenger side. He left it open to show the car wouldn’t do anything on it’s own. He slowly and cautiously brought Adrian over to peek inside. He then opened the driver seat himself. He dangled the keys as he made sure Adrian was watching.
“It won’t go on it’s own. I need these to control it.” Zel said, hoping he would understand at least one word of that. He took the keys and placed them in the slot. He slowly turned it as the engine lightly roared. The boy jumped back as Zel turned the car off with keys in hand. He then took Adrian’s hands and placed the keys in his palm.
“You have control. See? It’s dead now.” He hoped that this would help him trust the vehicle. From below, two men in odd uniforms looked up at the boy. Their voices a mere echo as they called up to him. Adrian looked down, fear on his face, as Zel knew he needed to get him away. He took the keys as he rushed the boy into the passenger seat. He put the seatbelt on him carefully as he lightly closed the door then rushing to his side. He started the engine as he place the gear in drive. “Hold on.” He said with a smirk as he slid from the side to the road. He spun the car around as it stopped. With a wider smile, he sped up the hill heading in the opposite direction. He could see Adrian clench onto the seat as he drove.
“Here, hold this to calm down.” He said in a soft tone as he handed Adrian a stuffed bunny stitched together with different colored patterns. He smiled as he continued to drive, making sure to get enough distance from the men and wherever they had came from before slowing down.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Adrian watched as Xander opened the side and stepped back some. He bit his lip and when Xander started to pull him closer he started shaking but he then looked in and blinked. It wasn’t moving or making the weird sound. So was this the same thing? Or something different. He continued to look at it and ran his hand round it. When he heard something he looked up to see some shiny things Xander was holding. He blinked some and listened to him explain. He somewhat understood. So those did something to this thing? What did they do? How did they control it? So many questions. The human world was so weird and complicated. He wanted more simple things.
When Xander put one of the shiny things in this hole, Adrian blinked and watched as he turned it. Though as soon as he heard the thing turn on and make the weird noise he remembered he jumped back and started shaking again. He then watched as Xander turned it back and took out the shiny thing. So what’s what it did. It turned it on and off. He still didn’t like it and it still scared him. But when Xander pulled his hand and put it on the shiny things and he felt them and touched them, he smiled. So Xander controlled it? It wouldn’t go on unless Xander or someone made it. He was starting to understand. It didn’t seem so bad now that he realized it wasn’t alive. This relaxed him some.
Soon Adrian was tense again when he heard the men. He looked down and fear took over him. He wasn’t going back with them. He wasn’t going to let them hurt him. He was thinking of running, but Xander was already by his side and helping him into the thing. He but a strap around him and he began to panic. What the hell was going on?! What was he doing?! He watched as Xander got in on the other side and the thing made it’s noise again. He twitched and whimpered as the thing began moving and really, really fast. He began panting and shaking holding into the part he was sitting on and watching ahead of him. He wanted to scream. He did not like this at all. Nope not at all. All this was to much for him. He did notice they were going away from the men so that was good at least. But he was still scared as hell.
When Xander said something calming and handed him a small soft object, Adrian took it and then smiled softly. He looked it over and noticed it had a cute face and shiny eyes. He held it close and it did in fact relax him. He snuggled it and noticed it was not only soft but it was squashy in a nice way. It was as if it was made for a little human. Maybe it was. He didn’t care though he liked it and it was helping him calm down. He hummed softly the more he relaxed and made the little soft thing dance. He smiled brightly as he continued to play with it and hum to it. He looked at Xander and smiled more and then wondered how to thank him for letting him play with this cute thing. He seemed to understand since he smiled back and he nodded and went back to playing with it as the loud thing moved. He really needed to learn what the hell all this was calling everything ‘thing’ thing was annoying.
