=====================================
1482- Festival of Fools AKA Feast of Fools
A couple of years before Columbus finds America.
Quasimodo elected Pope of Fools for being the ugliest person in Paris.
Seeing Esmerelda dancing at the Festival of fools, Frollo is immediately captured by her beauty. He apparently knows the road she takes home at night and decides to follow her. He brings along his long-time servant, Quasimodo; A deformed man with a hunchback, a large lump in his chest and a wart over one eye. He is deaf, but is a wonderful worker. And Frollo cares for him, since he raised Quasimodo.
Side note: Frollo is a very sexually frustrated man. His parents died when he was young and he was to raise his younger brother, Jehan on his own. Jehan turned down priesthood, the path his brother chose and became a terrible alcoholic and gambler. He also took Quasimodo into his care. He cared for Quasimodo greatly and wanted to teach him to read and write, but the task of teaching such things to a deaf man was nearly impossible back then. So it was quite stressful.
He's actually an Alchemist and Black-magic practicer... so much for innocent Priest. †
Anyway, Quasimodo and Frollo are going about their merry little way, stalking Esme when suddenly Frollo decides to attack her. I don’t know what he planned to do, but...eh....yeah...
Anyway, this man named Pierre (A minor character, really.) tries to save Esme and while he's like...fighting Quasimodo, Frollo runs off. Later on, Captain Phoebus arrives and arrests Quasimodo. He's put on trial and sentenced to 2 hours of torture at the Placé de Gréve, this torture dungeon thingy back then. So in other words, Quasi gets in trouble for something that isn't really his fault. D: Buuurn.
Side note: Pierre Grigoire is a struggling playwright/philosopher who is caught in the Court of Miracles while he is trying to get people to watch his play instead of taking part in the festival. Since he is well-dressed, the thieves and gypsies there are angered by his presence. And attempt to hang him. However, Esmerelda shows up and saves him, by agreeing to "marry" him for four years since he tried to save her earlier.
Anyhow, after Quasimodo is tortured, he's left to sit out in the sun for a while. He gets reaaaal thirsty, so he's calling out for water but no one's listening to him. Esmerelda's nearby and she feels pity for him, and gives him water despite the fact that he ATTACKED HER EARLIER. ;o; So nice.
Anyway, nearby this mean nun is all like "You evil gypsy child-thief!" to Esmerelda. She's griping about her child that was kidnapped 14 years earlier. Little does she know that that child is actually Esmerelda! So Esme's real name is Agnes. (What a bad name. =___=;; )
Moving on! Later on, Phoebus asks Esme to meet him somewhere later. And she's like "WOWZERS, HE'S SO HAWT!!!111!" so she immediately agrees to it. He's like the man of her dreams and Prince Charming and all that but he's actually a womanizer and a playboy. D: Me no likey.
Frollo hears this and is all like "Oh no HE DIDN'T!" *finger snap* and stabs Phoebus (Though not to death) and Esme is captured for it! And put on trial! D:
So at her trial, Esme is tortured and forced to confess to the "killing" of Phoebus and to being a witch. She is then sentenced to be hung. While she's in jail, Quasi visits her and proclaims his love for her, which she immediately rejects.
After that, Esme is publicly humiliated. During this, she sees Phoebus watching! He has kind of actually convinced himself that Esme really did stab him, because of all those feverish nights after he was stabbed and all...made him lose his recollection of what actually happened. Esme believed he was dead before and can't believe her eyes. She calls out to him, but he just walks into his fiancé’s (Fleur) house.
So then Quasimodo swings down on a rope and takes Esmerelda into a church, proclaiming "Sanctuary", meaning no one could come in and arrest/harm them.
After this, Quasimodo and Esmerelda develop an awkward friendship.
Anyhow, The Vagabonds who are like this gang of thieves/gypsies, lead by Clopin who is the man who raised Esme, march towards the church. But Quasi thinks they're after Esmerelda to kill her, and kills a number of them. Including Clopin himself! ;o;
Frollo cleverly uses this nonsense as a diversion to sneak in and steal Esmerelda.
So he offers her a choice. Either say that she loves him, or be hung. Of course, she takes the second choice. (Prideful woman *shakes head*)
So as she's taken off to be hung, that mean nun from before, Sister Gudule sees her and verbally attacks her again. But she sees the necklace Esmerelda's wearing and remembers that she gave it to her child before she was kidnapped! So ding, ding, ding! "OMG, IT'S MY BABY. I'm so sorry. Save my baby."
But of course, it's too late.
Esme is hung, sadly and Quasi escapes in a rage and throws Frollo off the roof of the Cathedral to his death...
He cries out, "There is everything I have ever loved!"
He is never seen again.
Years later, when a grave-digger stumbles upon Esmerelda's remains he finds the skeleton of a hunchback curled around her...
(Quasimodo entombed himself with Esmerelda's body…. Alive)
