I thought I knew it all,
That I fought a worthy cause.
But it's all crumbled around me now,
As if it simply never was.
The walls are black and shattered,
Victims of my war.
I stand in the rubble of this city,
What was this all for?
I drop my shield,
Throw away this sword.
I've taken far too many lives,
What did I do it for?
Did I do it for the glory?
For the riches and the fame?
Was it all worth the price in blood,
That my victims had to pay?
The fires burn in the distance,
The survivors cry in the night.
I steel myself for the final charge,
I march to my last fight.
I crash into what was my camp,
Make two men fall and die.
They ask what has come over me
As I raise my blade towards the sky.
Four more fall before I do,
But I'm back on my feet.
I fight now for a cause that's right,
I've got no time to bleed.
The sun begins to rise once more,
As I sit against this tree.
My former fellows lie strewn about,
A feeling comes over me.
It's like I've made up for all my wrongs,
And fought a battle worthy of many songs.
For a poet I would gladly send
If this were not my tragic end.

Description:
This isn't one of my best works, but it's the last thing I've written in a while (up to you how good it is really..). I had a medieval/viking picture in mind while writing this, and it was probably influenced by music that I was listening to at the time.
Oh well, if you like it, drop a comment. ^_^ - Date: 06/29/2009

Your strongest stanza always seems to be your final stanza, it seems.
The format was terribly confusing (some of it rhymed, some of it didn't), but beyond that, I have no complaints. 4/5 - Report As Spam
