Chapter V


Ran's Mission




Ran, Tinus, and especially Vincent were still in shock after their encounter with Sakura. Ran was being carried by a silent Vincent back up to their home. Tinus and Ran were told to start dinner without himself and mother, just to eat. "Did you know she was in you?" Tinus asked after nearly 30 minutes pasted. Ran looked down at the strange food she was eating, "Me did hear voices, but me didn't know it her." she placed her strange eating tool back on the table. Ran then stood and ran to the window, "Me can't be here! Me must find Thomas!" she started to bang on the window, crying. Tinus walked up to her and, hesitantly, he hugged her. "But Sakura told you to wait until the moon was full, whatever that means. Sakura wouldn't lie to you, she must have something planed. Wait, did you say that you are looking for Thomas our King?" Ran looked up at a confused Tinus. She squirmed out of his hands and then spoke, "Gramps said King Thomas, but it too long. Where he?"
"The King lives in the capital, but that's nearly a three day journey. But the King is said to come to our home in a week..."
"That it! Sakura no want me to go, cause Tom come here instead!"
"But a week is longer than three days Ran. Since we know you are from Nei, how long can your people wait?"
Ran looked down again, she didn't know what to make of this new beginning she has started. Sakura told her to trust her heart but listen to her, something about the Ages; whoever they were. Flashes of Ben and Gramps and all the other children in cages with the Snake Lady hurting them recurred in her head. She grabbed her head in hopes of stopping the pain and the screams that kept going. Then she fainted.


"Why are you in my chamber Ran?"

Ran opened her eyes in a strange room of rusted swords and armor with the smell of death all around. She then stood and turned around to see Sakura standing behind her. "Sakura..." Ran then remembered all the questions she wanted to ask her but only one came to mind, "...Did you know Vincent?" Sakura's eyes went wide for a minute then she closed them and smiled back to Ran. "I did. But I can't believe how big he is now."
"How you meet?" Ran walked up to her with big eyes of curiosity.
Sakura waved her hand and a chair appeared from the dark which she sat down on. "Come here Ran." Ran jumped up to Sakura's lap like when she did the same to Gramps. Sakura took a deep breath and began.

"It was when I came back to Sepol to overthrow Alicia. Thomas and I were wandering about, looking for followers. We happen to spy Vincent at a young age, not that much older than you Ran, getting beaten by a group of thugs." Ran was shocked; Vincent, big, tall Vincent, was able to be beat? "It's pretty amazing isn't it Ran? Anyway, I broke up the fight and Tom healed Vincent's wounds. Turns out, he was trying to beat them for talking back about his father. Tom then asked what family he was from and he was actually a nephew of the old King Hector; but too distant to be considered royal. We stayed at their house and dined with his mother and baby Tinus." Ran then giggled; Tinus a baby, haha. "Then, trouble started. The thugs found us and nearly killed Tinus and his mother. I got to them before it happened but Vincent was the one that protected me. He got a nasty gash on his back, the scar probably looks like the stem of a rose by now. Thanks to Tom, he was healed again but Vincent swore he'd get stronger. Then the next day we left to fight Alicia."
Sakura sighed a breath after finishing and looked at an amazed Ran. 'That why he no talk about Sakura.' She thought, "But Sakura?" Ran looked up to her hero with sadness, "Why Snake Lady, er Alicia, so mean?"
Sakura paused and closed her eyes, "Because her mind is controlled by hate, power, and a curse."
"Curse?"
"Have you ever heard of runes Ran?"
"No. What they?"
"They are magical marks that appear on people; some of them are good and help others, while the others control its wielder. Alicia has one that controls her body, mind, and heart. My main mission was to get the rune off of her and return it to the remains of its previous owner."
Ran had her mouth hung open, which a smiling Sakura closed.
"But the Ages-"
"Who they?" Ran asked.
"In time you will know." Ran pouted for a minute.
"They told me I must give my knowledge and power to the true Queen of Sepol and that I would be born into her to insure her safety. You, Ran, are the Queen of Sepol." Ran went wide-eyed, "Don't tell anyone, not even Thomas of your birth. When the time is right you will know when to speak."
Ran was silent, then nodded in agreement.
"Now Ran, I will give you a power of a rune, but don't abuse it. Also I will help you when it comes to fights and be at your side. It will hurt but you must bear it, like I did."
Ran then nodded yes and closed her eyes again, feeling a strange warmth over her body.

"Huh? What's that?"
Tinus looked at a strange eye mark on Ran's hand that just appeared. He then saw her shift over to one side of her body and fell asleep. He smiled and then left the room but wondered over the mark.
