Well there is a tale, from my peope, the Cherokee Indians. That long ago. Our people, suffered a long winter in their camp. They ran out of food, from thesprin, and still. blizzards continued to ail them. The shamanness of the trip, had 6 chickens. It is said, that, she used magic to enhance these chickens, so that they laid two eggs a day, instead of one, and they doubled in size. So, for months, these 6 chickens, provided food for the whole villiage. All winter. The shamanness had to sleep withthem in her teepee, to enchant them while she slept and people would bring as offerings, bits of grass, seeds, anything they can find for the chickents to feed and be healthy, to keep laying the eggs, she crushed the eggshells into the mixtures of offerings she made, so that they could have the protein they gave away, back. She would sprinkle whatever was left, around her teepee, to kee the chicken in there, cuz they wouldnt cross their own shells. When winterendded and crops grew, and game returned, no one but the shamaness culd eat the chickens meat because they had absorbed so much of her magic that it would make the villagers ill. These 6 chickens, kept a whole village of people alive for six months, all thanks to the magic of one shamannes.
((Please note, I did not make this up. It is a story that my mother told me, as it is passed through our generations, due to tradition, and heritage.))
