Princess Knight Part 2
Karil heard a dark chuckle behind her. She turned her head and saw a tall man with black hair and she found he was smiling.

“Why do you cry over the death of a dragon, Your Highness? Isn’t this a good thing? Isn’t this benefiting your kingdom?” The tall man asked as he sat down on a small boulder, smirking at Karil the whole time.

Karil wiped her sword on a small patch of grass that was to her side. She looked at the man and asked, “Was it you who killed the baby?”

The man put his finger to his chin and smirked. “Yes, it was I. You were going to kill it eventually, were you not?”

Karil glared at the man. “No I wasn’t. I was going to relocate it to a place where it wouldn’t pose a threat to our livestock or my subjects in the neighboring towns.”

The man stood up and walked to the enraged princess, “Aren’t you going to answer my first questions?”

Karil sighed, “I weep because that dragon suffered from such a loss from the death of her baby, that she had no will to live longer. As you know, no beast willingly asks you to plunge a blade into them. It may be benefiting my kingdom, but not in a way I would like it to.”

The man laughed. “I see.” He bowed, his blue eyes never left the princess’ hazel ones.

“Pleased to meet you, Princess Karil. You may call me Jonathan.”

Karil nodded out of politeness, but really wanted the man to carry on with his life so she could go on with hers.

Karil hopped onto her fidgeting horse. “Okay, okay, we’re going now Myrna. Take us home,” she whispered into her white horses ear.

“Fare well, Sir Jonathan. I hope that you will ask me for permission before you go killing dragons again,” Karil said with a scowl.

Jonathan stared at her innocently and bowed. “Of course, Your Highness”

With that, Karil rode Myrna back to the castle. Taking the route that went through the village that was closest to her home. She waved at her subjects and smiled. The townsfolk smiled at their strong and beautiful leader as well.

Karil hurried home to the castle to find her maids and servants scurrying around the castle. Karil turned a corner on her way to her bedchambers where she ran into her personal maid.

The elderly lady bowed and apologized, “I am so sorry, Milady. I should’ve looked.”
Karil chuckled and patted her maid’s shoulder.

“It’s fine, Julia. I shouldn’t be hurrying around with people running to and fro. Um… can I ask you something?”

“Of course Milady,” Julia said.

Karil looked a bit embarrassed, “Why is everyone so busy?”

Julia looked dumbfounded, “Your Highness, you have already forgotten your own birthday?”

Karil blushed. “Of course not. I’ve been busy with… the recent… dragon hunts, and… Um…”

The older woman giggled and they started walking down the hall to the royal bedchambers.

“I’ve prepared an herbal bath for your home coming, Milady,” Julia said.

Karil grinned, “Just what I needed after a long day of slaying the dragons too old to be relocated. Tiring work if you ask me.”

Juliana smiled and nodded. “Well, here we are. I want you to take a nice, long, warm bath, and I’ll bring you your supper later on,” She said as they came to a stop at a wooden door decorated with complicated etchings.

Karil nodded. “Thank you, Juliana.”

Juliana bowed. “Anytime, Milady,” she said as she walked away from the princess.

Karil opened her door and found the room just as she had left it, with the pale purple bed sheets neatly in order, and the light blue drapes were open so she could see most of her kingdom. The view was amazing since the castle was set on a mountainside.

She walked through another doorway to find a pool filled with steaming water. It smelled like roses and the scent seemed to relax the previously tensed knight automatically. She smiled and started to take off her heavy armor. She chucked it into a pile in the corner of the room knowing her servants would take care of it later.

After bathing, Karil came out of the large washroom dressed in a dark blue nightgown. She sat on her soft bed, and noticed she could hardly keep her eyes open. She was glad
that Juliana had come with her supper before she had fallen asleep.

Juliana set the plate in front of the princess who started eating immediately.

The maid giggled as she saw that her princess was too tired to even eat without getting the sauce on her face. Karil blushed slightly and wiped at her face with a washcloth

Juliana lent to her. The maid now smiled and took the plate away as soon as Karil had finished eating.

Juliana bowed and whispered, “Good night, Milady. Sweet dreams.”

Karil was only able to respond by mumbling something incoherent as she pulled the covers over her head and fell asleep quickly.
