The War That Never Was

Chapter VIII

It was warm but damp outside. Cool breeze brushed over my body along with the smell of blood and rust. It felt like I weighed at least 100 pounds more than I normally was. I slowly stood up but felt a sharp pain in my head and chest bringing me back down onto the ground. Though the ground wasn't warm nor was it the ground itself. I opened my eyes and noticed I was laying on a corpse of a Tuor soldier. Fear struck me while I tried to quickly stand on my feet but fell backwards onto something sharp. Wincing in pain I rolled off the sharp object and noticed it was one of my people with his sword still with him. I slowly got a hold of my thoughts and stood slowly. Looking around on the ground I found my gunblade and used it as a cane to prop myself up. The sky was gray and the air was cold, it looked like it was sunset because the sky was a mixture of gray and red in the western sky. I observed the ground some more and noticed I was in the graveyard of soldiers. Was this were I previously fought? I shook my head then looked around some more. Panic started to race through my mind. I couldn't find Kai anywhere amongst the bodies. Did he disappear forever like in my illusion? I wiped away the tears in my eyes then decided to keep moving on towards the Tuor Empire. I knew that I had to win freedom for us even if the one I loved was gone from my life.

The sky was black as a horse that the Tuor soldiers rode into battle. They meant death to whoever stood in it's path demonstrating the Tuor's power and economy wise. I looked up and found the giant gates to the empire. I slowly limped my way there past a few onlookers that stared at me. They wore a disgusted yet fearful look on their face. Mothers turned their children around, I must have looked like a real mess as much as I felt it. A soldier blocked my path to open the gate while he stared down at me.
"You're not supposed to be here Rozzaria scum."
"Let me through or I will finish you off like I did to your squadron!" I shouted to let the Tuorians know where I was from.
"Y-you're the one that killed all those men!?" I could sense him tremble slightly at my words.
"Let me through or I will put your head on a spear!"
He nodded and quickly signaled the people by the gate opening. The giant doors slid to the side like a curtain creating a small earthquake. I limped inside the Empire and looked around. It wasn't like our Empire, it was full of gray and turquoise cobble stones unlike our cement grounds and without the elaborate designs on the floor.

Reaching the center building where the king would be. Mustering enough strength I walked up the long stairway to the building. My brown dirty hair blew in the wind. Finally I reached the top and was let into the building with guards my escort. They stood behind me with spears instead of guns. Inside was a lot more elaborate than the outside. Stained glass windows with shark like men fighting against a large Bahamut. Pushing the door in front of me with force I saw guards jump immediately to me and put their spears in front of me. Like that will stop me right now. I thought in my mind. A tall man with bluish gray hair stood and turned to me. He chuckled which made my lips twitch with anger, how can he laugh in front of someone that is about to kill him?
"I've heard a lot about you Reks." He walked up to me and stood inches away from me. I moved towards him in a movement like a gun that was just shot.
"It's not Reks. It's Aurora of Rozzaria."
"I knew that." He chuckled, he wore a cape with two armbands with metal fins on them. He only wore silver, not gold. "You did a number on my best squadron. I'm surprised you are still alive."
"I'm surprised you are too." I growled under my breath. I could feel him put a hand under my chin and lift my head up. Anger raged inside me from him making me feel like I was weak, on impulse I spat in his face while he pulled his hand away from me and laughed.
        "I like them firery."
        I growled watching him closely.
"Men, get her cleaned up and lets bring her back to Rozzaria." The guards nodded and pushed me towards a room. Walking in it was a white room with blue markings along with gold. A few women stood there with smiling faces, my lips twitched realizing I would become a doll for these girls. The guards left while one woman, she looked like a nurse, walked up to me.
"Don't worry, I'm not going to hurt you, just clean your wounds so you wont get infected." She had a soft voice and was far outgoing then the others that stared at me like one would look at dirty dog. "Just please sit down and be still."
I nodded and sat down on a marble bench near a crystal clear window that overlooked the Empire. I wondered why the Tuors wanted our Empire, theirs was beautiful as ours. I flinched feeling a needle go through my bullet wound in my side.
        "Ow! Watch it!"
        "Just relax." She spoke soothingly.
I groaned and waited until she was done. She stood up and escorted me to a large bath. Another one of the women came into the room.
"I will take your clothes and wash them as well as fix them."
I nodded and looked at her.
        "A little privacy?"
"Don't worry it's just us women."
Groaning I quickly undressed and handed her my clothes and hopped into the warm bath. I watched the woman smile then walk out with my clothes. I sighed with relief and sunk deeper into the water and rested my head on the edge of the tub. Closing my eyes I drifted to sleep, though no visions this time, just the back of my eyes.

Someone shook my shoulder while I slowly opened my eyes expecting Kai, but found one of the women next to me. I had a disgusted look to my face finding out it wasn't my love.
"C'mon, you need to get your clothes on." She helped me out of the large tub. I felt a lot more cleaner then before. My clothes were all nice and clean, no more blood stains and dirt on it. I slowly put it on and fastened the leather brown belt under my chest. I found my gunblade and picked it up and put it in it's holster. The women looked past me and bowed. I blinked and turned around noticing the King was behind me. Another disgusted look came to my face while I moved back.
"Lets get back to Rozzaria shall we?" He smiled at me which made me feel uneasy.
"Sure." I spoke with a crack in my voice. He smiled and walked away and motioned everyone of the guards. We walked out the back way and through the dungeon. I saw a lot of my people looking at me with sadness in their eyes. A child was chained to a wall starving from hunger it looked like. My heart sank seeing all my people like this. A loud cry was heard nearby, in an instant I rushed out of the guards grasp and ran to the cry. Guards were surrounding in a circle while I spotted a whip in the air. Anger filled me and I pushed the guards out of the way pulling out my gunblade.
"Stop it!" I shouted at the large burley man whipping a small child. He was one of my people. I went to swing my blade at him but the King grabbed my arm in a death grip. Wincing in pain I fell to my knees as the guard watched me ready to crack the cowhide at me.
"Don't you dare hit her!" The King thundered feeling his grip loosen on my arm. I pulled my arm free of him and stood. The child was scared out of his mind. I walked over to the boy and brushed his hair back speaking to him softly.
"Don't worry. Where is your family?"
The boy started to cry. "They died."
I growled and looked over my shoulder at the King.
          "Release him. Now!" I shouted.
The King sighed and raised his arm while the guards unchained him from the heavy ball. I picked the boy up he reminded my of my brother when he was only 5. The same blond hair and tanner skin.
"I'm not going back unless this boy comes with me."
The King was growing impatient but sighed and nodded while we continued to walk. We came to a large hanger with a large airship. The boy and I both stared in awe while the guards escorted us into the ship. I sat down and let the boy sit next to me.
"So what's your name?" I asked softly and friendly.
"Jack." He spoke in a stutter.
"Don't worry Jack. You're safe now." I smiled at him. It was like being with Jasper again. The engines of the airship roared to life as the large doors went up for the airship to take off. The airship blasted into the air towards Rozzaria where my destiny awaits.
