Right after Shizuki ate lunch he went to work. He still worked part time at the gas station. His manager, Regi, a short, slightly darwin-eared tan man, had also known of Shizuki's loss. He had been one of Shizuki's friends who had attended Rui's funeral. "You're right on time as always!!" Regi greeted him from behind a cash register. Shizuki said nothing as he nodded at him. He went to the stock rooms, retrieved some boxes and started restoring the shelves. Then he proceeded to the register next to Regi's. This was his "station" as his manager called it. Right next to the cash register sat a small wallet sized photo of Rui. Remembering something, Shizuki turned to Regi. "Hey, shouldn't we play some music??" he asked. Regi nodded. "Yeah I forgot my CDs at home so whatever you have here will do.." Shizuki grabbed his favorite Evanescence CD and skipped to track 9. He went back to his station as the song began throughout the store. Shizuki waited. A couple of people came in. One woman, black hair, green eyes, and a business suit... She came to his counter and put down a pack of pretzels and a large coffee. She watched Shizuki as he rang up her items. She must've thought he looked depressed because she asked him if he was okay. Shizuki looked up at her confused. "Yeah...I'm fine.." he put on a smile. She smiled, paid for her items and left. Shizuki sighed when he got a small break when there was only a few people browsing in the store. He reached down and picked up Rui's picture, holding it at such an angle that the lady on the other side of his counter could see it. He stared at it longingly. How he missed Rui. How he wanted to hold Rui... "He's very handsome.." said the woman smiling. Shizuki's head shot upwards. She was a country woman in a patched up apron dress, her brown hair pulled in a loose bun atop her head. She was a rather thick woman with a kind face and a sweet smile. "Yeah...he was..." he agreed as he rang up the woman's doughnuts. "Oh dear...what happened..? Not to be rude or anything...just want to know.." she replied sweetly. Shizuki sighed quietly. "Rui...he died last christmas.." he answered trying not to get all choked up. The woman reached over the counter and patted him on the shoulder. "I"m very sorry to hear that dear.." she said. The woman invited him to her house the next day for tea and lunch before she left. Shizuki said he would love to accompany her. At the end of his shift, nine o'clock, Shizuki put on his coat and went on his way home. For dinner he drove to a place called Alicia's Italin Diner. Alicia's had been Rui's favorite restraunt in the entire town and it had been where the couple had had their first date. He ordered his food to go and went back to that small apartment to eat it. He wanted to leave that diner as soon as he could so he wouldn't get caught up in memories yet again...
