Chapter One: The Beginning
She winched at the sight of him; seeing his dark shifting figure. She backed away into the darkness as she saw his eager eyes sparkle in the light. "Get away from me", her voice cracked having not used it in days. "Never", he said his voice strong and menacing. He stepped forward and she struggled to stand up. Remembering her injury she unwilling fell into his arms. "No!" she screamed wishing that it could all go away. "Shh…" he said laying her back down, "your hurt". "Don't touch me" she said but secretly thanked God that he caught her. "Look you can whine all you want, but you know you need my help. Now hold still". He wrapped the bandage around her leg and winched at the feel of his fingers on her leg. "There", he said. A pause suddenly formed in the room. Silence engulfed them, as if the whole world was holding its breath. "Thank you", she finally said quietly forcing out a smile. "There you go", he said smiling warmly back. He sat next to her, and she moved awkwardly away. "Damn it, Elena. I'm trying to make conversation. Forget the past. Its time you think about the future. She looked down into her lap, knowing he was right. "I'm scared, Kyle", she said leaning against him, feeling the warmth that she had ever so desired. He wrapped his arms around her, knowing this was no time for words.
