AND NOW...OUR FEATURE PRESENTATION
chapter 6
Time passed as I sat there falling asleep. I had spent the time walking around the shop and looking at all the runes 5 times...being a runemaster was such a boring job. Good thing I never did become a real runemaster. The owner of the shop nor anyone else stepped into the store for a long time, I started to wonder what was happening outside. I looked out towards the door and noticed that the small fox that was following me was lying near the foot of the door all curled up like it was it's home. I let out a sigh then laughed a little. I got up and fetched some water and food in the back and set it out in front of the fox. He looked up at me with big shiny jade green eyes and happily ate the food. I stood back up, turned back around and started to walk back to the seat behind the counter when suddenly I heard a females voice from behind.

"Quick Kassandra! We need to hurry and get a Resurrection Rune so we can purge Erich of that spell" I quickly rushed back behind the counter and realized the shop didn't have a resurrection rune in it's inventory...although I myself had a few to spare...

"Please!" the girl cried at me as she slammed her hands on the counter. "I need a Resurrection Rune quick." I pulled down the robe a little more and peeked up towards the girl that I had met...or rather...had seen with that boy at Rikon.
"Sophia...don't yell..."
"But if we don't hurry my brother might die! Even your magic didn't seem to work"
I look back behind Sophia to see who she was talking to and I see the young girl Kassandra. It dawned on me then that the boy Erich was no where to be found.

As best as I could I disguised my voice and asked them what was wrong. Sophia turned back to me suddenly and started explaining to me what happened, all the while her voice on the brink of breaking into tears...I honestly didn't catch a lot of what she had said besides the fact that the resurrection rune could cure the disease.
At one point I looked over at Kassandra and noticed her eyeing me curiously, I started to worry that she would interrupt Sophia with revealing my identity but she only continued to eye me curiously.
"So please! Do you have a resurrection rune? I'll give you all the money I have but PLEASE! Give me one!"
I felt sorry for her and gave her one from my personal collection and insisted them to keep her money.
I guess they were really in a hurry because although they eyed me with disbelief and it appeared an argument was about to pour out of their mouths the grabbed the rune thanked me and quickly ran out.

When they disappeared from view I pulled back the hood, relaxed my back and let out a sigh, I looked back towards the little fox and saw it lying on it's back looking back up at me playfully. I smiled back at it. Then laid my head back onto the counter letting the hood fall over my head and closed my eyes.
what a odd coincidence to run into them again...at least the hot-tempered boy wasn't around...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
No sooner that I started to nod of to sleep I heard a loud noise from outside and suddenly another BAMN onto the counter
"ARE YOU THE ONE WHO GAVE SOPHIA THE RESURRECTION RUNE?!?!?"
I jolted up slightly from the shock and almost fell off my chair and manage to meagerly answer back "uh...yeah, that was me..."
The tone of voice changed and the speaker replied "From the bottom of my heart I thank you, here I insist you take some cash please!" I peeked from under my hood-which luckily hadn't fallen off when I jolted upright-to see the owner of the voice and was surprised to see Erich.
As much as I wanted to take the money and laugh in his face I refused the money and insisted to him to accept the rune as a gift. Sophia appearing from behind smiles at me and replies, "Thank you kind sir, but you can't convince my brother. He is stubborn so take the money."
I shake my head again and push away Erich's handful of money "no really you keep the money I insist"
"Please take it, we don't need money...unless there is something I can do for you that doesn't involve money."
"oh nooo...you don't need to pay me back with anything. Really...it's a gift to you three"
He frowned at me then and stood back up "...so be it then, we are aristocrats you know...you could have a lot of potch for your store."
They started to turn to leave and I let out a sigh...if he had asked one more time I probably woud've taken it just to end the prolonged back-and-forth awkwardness.
Suddenly there is a loud crash and the ground starts to shake. The three run outside and I follow right after them. Harpies start to appear from the sky and loud screeches echo in the air as they zip around.
"Oh no!!! God damn monsters are everywhere. Everyone! Take the initiative!!" I hear Sophia yell out as suddenly a strong gust of wind blows into my direction. I manage to jump out of the way but my robe gets blown off. I glance toward the three and see them all staring at me wide-eyed. Erich was the first to respond with "?!?!?!? YOU!!!!!!!!! YOU'RE THAT B*****D FROM RIKON!!!!"
Once again he pulls out his blade and aims it at me. I jump to my feet, let out a sigh and reply back to him "um...maybe you should pay attention to what's over there...?" Sophia adds from behind him "You're that evil jerk! WELL, my brother can take you on in a rematch! UGHHH!!! Why did you even help us!!!"
Me? Evil? Hey I sorta like the sound of that...no seriously...if anyone was watching us now I'd have to argue that they looked more 'evil' then me...
Kassandra nervously runs besides Sophia and Erich and says to them "um...let's talk about this another time...the harpies are beginning to attack!"
Erich and Sophia reluctantly give in and all three of them turn around, pulling out their weapons, switching their attention to the harpies.
Kassandra turns back around towards me then smiles and asks "Narase will you help us defeat this fiend? ...otherwise please escape now and we'll handle it..." I laugh at her comment. who does she think she is? Does she also think that Erich could beat me up...ha...I wouldn't make that same mistake twice
I pull out both my sword from it's sheath and call out my staff with my magic and reply back at her defiantly "I haven't had a chance to use both of these in a long time...BRING IT ON!"
She giggles a little then turns back around starting to chant a spell. I recognize it as the Protect Mist spell and as soon as she finished casting it everyone charged into battle. I jumped at them circling around to their backs whenever possible slashing through them with my sword while blocking them mainly with my sturdy staff. Through the fray I was able to catch glimpses of the other three. Erich charging through like a mad bull...Sophia using her Fire rune...Kassandra using mainly Defensive Water spells. I watched them a little too long when suddenly a harpy flies down to attack me and Sophia quickly cast a Lv 3 fire spell on it. She looked at me disbelievingly as I looked back at her apologetic then both of us went back into battle.
I manage to catch a glimpse of Erich using a special technique of his called "Falenian Hazard" in which he quickly dances around one harpy confusing it then slicing at it. I Make a big grin at him and holler to him "Ooooo~ a technique huh?"
He scoffs at me then turns towards the last harpy when Kassandra interrupts by yelling "Just one more! Everybody keep it going!"
Before I knew it, the last harpy out of pure rage casts a powerful wind spell hitting everyone back. I get knocked back towards the entrance of the rune shop and as I struggle back up I finally remember the little fox that had followed me to town. "Ehh?!? Where'd it go?!?!?!" I exclaimed out loud as I re-sheathed my sword, dissipated my staff, and quickly pulled out a Water rune from my collection, cast Kindness Drops on myself, and run back into the shop.
I hear Sophia yelling outside "Why the HELL do you always dodge Kassandra's healing spells?!?! You are so rude!!"
"Forget it Sophia...we have other things to worry about"
I continue to look around the runeshop for the fox and, walking out the backdoor, I discover it being cornered by a stray harpy everyone else had missed. I lept towards the fox and grabbed it just in time to protect it from the harpies attack. I cringe in pain a little and exhaustingly say to the fox "....Geez little guy....see...you shouldn't have followed me..." I take out my sword once again and finish off the stray harpy.
I get back up and stammer back to the front of the shop, exhausted and achy I overhear Sophia saying "As I figured he bailed on us, it's time for me to use my best spell!!!" and with that I overhear her starting to chant a Lv 4 Fire Spell. For a second I thought about slipping out of there unnoticed but decided instead that it would be the perfect opportunity to once and for awhile show the three that he wasn't as weak as they thought he would be. I place the fox down on the floor and rummaging through my pocket pulled out a lightning rune and carefully but swiftly embed it into my left hand.
After I was done I ran outside and grab Sophia's scepter to make her stop chanting.
"who the.........what do you think you're doing grabbing my ruby scepter you peasant!! I am trying to rid us of this beast!" She snaps back at me in anger. I keep a firm grip on her scepter and reply back to her "it'd be easier if it was a level 5 spell..." I hold my left hand up towards her and jokingly say to her "care for some lightning?"
"Ughhhh I have to demote myself and combine abilities with a commoner" she says in disgust "Just shut up and do it!" Kassandra scolds
She quickly raises her scepter and yells "I WILL SEND YOU TO HELL!!!!" at the same time I raise my left hand and correct Sophia "I am no commoner! My name is Narase!"
A warm flow of energy bursts onto the back of my palm and spreads up my arm throughout my whole body then just as quickly as it spreads out the energy quickly pulls itself back towards it's source. By returning back to the back of my palm so quickly the warm energy feels like an electric shock running back down my arm -collecting in my hand -then becoming released into the air. For a moment I see the lightning bolt move in slow motion dangling in the air like a spark of light from a firefly, then finally joining it's partner in arms - Sophia's fire magic. The two energies seem to dance in midair then shoot towards the harpy both zapping it with lightning and burning it into a crisp till nothing left of it remained, not even it's ashes. Ah...the majestic combined magic attack called "Blaze Camp" was quite a sight to see, but one had to pay quite a toll to perform I thought to myself as I started to feel lightheaded.
A slight sting of pain ran through my left fingers reminding me to quickly remove the rune before I lost any more of my sense of perception.
Afterwards I stick the rune back in my pocket and fall over from fatigue as my surroundings begin to blur. I feel the fox nudging my hand and I limply raise my hand to pat it lightly all the while listening in to a seemingly distant conversation yet with seemingly familiar voices.
Female voice: "When will we stop having to battle monsters?! Isn't there a town here without monsters like Antei?"
Males voice: "Our next destination is Kouan. Let's go, we have no business in Garan, we don't need to fight any more harpies."
I hear some thumping noises growing louder and louder...then slowly more and more distant...then they stop...a young familiar females voice starts to speak
"Wait...we can't leave him like this, we must help him." I let out a "ra......" to the voice seemingly acknowledging me...lying on the ground.
The male voice replies somewhat angrily "I have no time for an evil sorcerer. Let's go, we have no time." Thumping sounds start again and grow more distant. A females voice adds in "He's fine. He is so confident and cocky in his abilities he'll survive. Anyway let's go!" more thumping sounds start again and also start to grow more distant.
I laugh to myself at that last sentence and mumble out to no one in particular "ah...'you're welcome for the rune and for helping us'..... "
The younger female facing away from me yells out in disgust "Ughh...even so...this place is infested with harpies...he'll become food if we leave him here..." I feel the fox nuzzling me hand again and I jokingly blurt out "ahh...this fox here will eat me before the harpies...ok little fox?"
A long silence.
Male voice: "meh...take the little b*****d then...damn....now I have to carry him to Kouan."
Female voice: "I suppose we have to...mom would kill us if we left a person to die when we could of saved him.
"The fox is gonna carry me right?" I manage to say before my vision completely blurred out and my sense of feeling totally disappeared...
