this morning at 7:30am xcel energy imploded a 570ft smokestack. it was abandoned after they built the new plant. it's been a landmark in st. paul since it was built in 1972.
thousands of people came out to see it fall down. it's very close to my house so i got up early to go see it too. there was a festival atmosphere as people waited and many of us had our cameras with us.

when the blast went off we could feel the shockwave. biggrin and another when it hit the ground. it was very intense and a great cheer went up from the crowd after it was over.
