The Other Half: Fabrication.
"There he is again.." "what?" "He's always right there around this time, just looking this way, acting like it's the mail he's waiting for.." "what're you going to do about it?" Janet paused after lowering the binoculars. "I dunno."
The doorbell rang, after the sound of mail being slid though the slot stopped. No one went after it. Janet continued to spy through the small opening in the curtain. "What're you up to..." "Is the mailman over there yet?" "no.. not yet Andrea -something's up.. I just know it." They both sat there justified by the lack of nothing better to do.
Later that night, the moon shone, but the sky was cloudy in the subdivision. Janet was still at it with the binoculars, and Andrea was out cold for the night. All day she had been focusing that same knob.. in fact, she's been at it for weeks.. reasons for spying changed as the days went on. Andrea now just plays chaperone as to not let things get out of hand.. but even this has been too much.
It got to be around 3 in the morning, and Andrea was done shuffling in her bed unable to sleep. "Hey Janet." "Shhh.. what?" "Let's get a better view of this guy" "haha -he has a mean dog.. and he's all alone in there.. I think I've seen a gun there too, and..." She focused a bit and paused "and... I think it's a desert eagle".
Andrea grabbed the binoculars and tossed them against the wall, breaking them. "chicken?" "fine." "Get your badge."
The two waltzed intently toward the house. "Why do you think they do it?" "Cause they've got the letter". "No, there's gotta be more to it" They came to a stop right in front of the fence... if you can call a four foot tall contraption a fence. "Look." Andrea shined a flashlight at a blue envelope. As Janet went to reach it, Andrea kicked her away from it "don't touch it!" As Janet recoiled she landed on another letter, picked it up and Andrea shined a light on it. It was blue as well. "This one's empty." Andrea lowered the light, as Janet turned to look at another house. "It's addressed for that over there." Andrea didn't respond.. "Then that's our target.. we don't let them out of our-" A loud shot shattered the silence "-sight.."
The two panicked and went to hide. Andrea took the unopened blue letter with her. Two days passed, the light show that was ambulances and police cars had come and passed, and currently there was a kind of proceeding going on at the house.. Meanwhile, the two were in their living room looking at the letter that had become the center of their attention, they encircled it, debating weather to burn it, open it, burn it, or burn the whole house with it. They both knew the multitude of deaths were linked to it, and didn't know why. They "lost" a friend who had the guts to open it.. and they weren't going to make the same mistake.
"We've got to trace where this thing's from." "That's not easy.. or legal exactly.. your badge's powers end there, Andrea.." "chicken, Janet?" "sigh. fine."
