Distorting Her Image (Zuni Piece)
A piece of writing about Zuni, after "Toxic Lust." She doesn't want to be attractive, and now that she knows what makes men chase her around, she's determined to change it so they will turn away. Poor little Zu runs off to the city after this, and joins a gang, and starts to roughen up and becomes the opposite of her old self.

This one is short, I know. But I just wrote this one in like 15 minutes, and then I had to pack up, and then I lost my train of thought, so it kinda got cut off. There will be another one following at some point, though. :3 <3

Zuni stared blankly into the puddle of water on the ground, looking deep into her reflection.

Hair like silk….shines in the light…brings out face..

Tears clung desperately to the corners of her eyes, before she slipped out a pair of sharp scissors from the apron in her dress, the hand that held it shaking something terrible. She lifted it up to her hair, her hand trembling harder as the blade grazed along her silver threads of hair, hungry to snap down on them. She squeezed her eyes shut tightly, pulling out a good length of hair, and crunching the scissor blades around it, cutting it clean off. She squeaked when she opened her eyes, gazing down mournfully at the stands of hair that had fallen into the dirt, but she continued to cut, flinching at the snipping noises against her beloved hair that her mother had blessed her with, not caring at how it got cut. The messier, the better.

The bright sunny day smiled down on her, making her tears look like little shimmering drops of gold dripping off her cheeks, splattering down onto the ground into little puddles of misery, as she pulled out the box of hair dye that she had bought this morning. She picked the strangest color she could find, which happened to be a bright, highlighter green color, since she was guessing that no one could possibly want a girl that had moss or grass colored hair. It was so un-natural, even worse than her silver hair.

Still pouring out tears, she mixed up the dye, and lathered it into her hair all over, making sure to get every last inch of it.

Very womanly figure. Always makes a girl attractive.

Zuni couldn’t change her figure, unless she ate and ate until she grew fat, but she had already attempted doing so, and ended up puking it all out. She didn’t have a very tolerant stomach. So, she was reduced to having to hide her figure instead. Slipping off her favorite dress that she had worn into the forest, she walked down to the stream, scrubbing out the dye after it had sat in her hair for twenty minutes, and after feeling like she had gotten it all out, because the green slur in the water had cleared, she stepped out, and slipped on a baggy t-shirt she had taken from her father’s old working tees, and then slipped over a pair of jeans that swamped her, and so she put on her brother’s belt that she had taken also. There, no more pretty body. Not one curve could be seen buried under such men’s clothes.

She turned to her dress, wanting to cry again. It had been her mother’s, so her dad told her. Zuni staggered over to the simple, but pretty soft green plaid dress, picking it up, and slowly tearing it to pieces, making it so that she couldn’t ever wear it again, even if she wanted to. He always told her she looked cute in it….So, to hell with the dress. At this point, the poor girl was sobbing.
“I-I’m sorry mother…” She whispered softly, turning away from the ripped remains. What else was there to do-?

And most of all, your innocence. That quality is the very heart of what drives all men to you like herds of lust-crazed sheep, Zuni. And that is why they all want you.

Well, I guess I’m going to have to be less….innocent, then….. Zuni told herself. But how do I do that-? She remembered seeing pictures of cities in the newspaper, it wasn’t very much like the small village she lived in. Maybe people weren’t innocent there.. After all, there was war, and stealing, and vandalism, and sluts, crime, and all those horrible things. Surely she could loose a bit of her innocence there.

To a city it is then…. She sighed to herself, and began walking down the path she created with her eyes in between the trees, with nothing but her guitar and clothes on her back.
