Kenhaya (Rurouni) Yosumi
Yosumi
Name: Kenhaya Rurouni Yosumi
Age: Five-hundred Twenty
Race: Shinigami
Division: N/A (Previously Ninth)
Seat: N/A (Previously Captain)

Weapon/Abilities: Aside from his Zanpakuto and partner, Namigashira, Yosumi isn't known to carry any other weapons.

Insofar as abilities, Yosumi is quite literally a "Master" in all four styles of Shinigami combat, his footwork and hand-to-hand combat abilities are peerless, his knowledge of kido is only surpassed by those that have studied it their entire lives and make their place in the thirteen protection squads as the kido corps and his swordsmanship is legendary. As if that weren't enough, Yosumi is well-versed in Shinigami law having been the Ninth Division Captain prior to his banishment and as such has not only a written, but an intimate knowledge of the laws, court systems and methods of punishment for each crime and insurrection created against Soul Society, The Seireitei or the Thirteen protection squads in either a direct or indirect manner.

Due to the blood-line of his family, Yosumi naturally has the ability to manipulate and guide Spirit Particles, though even with his impressive talents at the technique he still falls far short of the Quincies ability to manipulate the particles in the air around them to form weapons. Yosumi is also reportedly a very good cook.

Zanpakuto: Namigashira (Literally - Wave Crest) in its sealed form resembles a Japanese Tachi (Literally - Long Sword) has a handle composed of Japanese ash, shaved to a white color, and then coated in a white powder to keep the wood beneath the dark blue wrappings white and pristine. The Kashiragane (sword pommel) is made entirely of platinum. The Tsuba (guard) is made likewise out of Japanese Ash, though it's dyed to a color of freshly cut pine in a golden brown, circular in nature it has a triple ring guard with the three rings interlocking at the center from which the blade extends. These three rings are capped in platinum as well and precisely carved with the names of his two siblings and the name of his former Vice Captain engraved on them.
Shikai: Namigashira has no one release incantation, rather being a fairly old Zanpakuto it's developed four "acts" referred to as Shiuchi. These four acts are listed below in ascending levels of power, however; for the higher level of release the more reiatsu consumed.

First Act - Hamukau Zenten (literally: Rise against all Heaven) (Liberally - Revolution against all of Heaven) Hamukau Zenten is essentially simply the act of releasing Namigashira into a Shikai form, this form's extent is that Namigashira's "blade" disappears from view, it is in fact still present, but has a variable length, at longest Hamukau Zenten grants Namigashira a length of about fifty feet, over ten times its original length.

Second Act - Kakouyori Zenten (literally Fall from all Heaven) (Liberally - "The Fall" wink Causes Namigashira to disappear completely, making it appear as though Yosumi is un-armed, hence the name, in reality though his weapon in it's enlarged state (though it doesn't have to be released into its first act before hand.) covers Yosumi in a very fine dust, nigh invisible to the human eye it shields him from being cut, much like an Arrancar's Hierro though like the Arrancar ability it's far from being invincible.

Third Act - Sanban Shiuchi (Literally - Third Act) Namigashira will disappear again completely from view, but may be used as a blade in accordance with Yosumi's limbs and body, if he were to swing his arm, just under five feet of an invisible blade would follow with it. The blade can of course be blocked and halt the motion though it cannot be seen. Unlike Kakouyori Zenten, Sanban Shiuchi does not "protect" Yosumi from harm.

Fourth Act - Yaseru Soshite Sanzan Shou (Literally - Reduce and Utterly Destroy.) Is the only Shiuchi that cannot be invoked by incantation and will without first releasing Namigashira into one of the three lesser forms. It is in this that Yosumi will regain Namigashira in its default, unreleased form the blade which can be lengthened at will glows with a brilliant light, blinding to the eyes it can be swung or thrust at a maximum output of fifty feet, wide strikes will leave behind after-images of the blade which remain essentially as "blades" for a moment or two past the passing of the blade itself. The swung Namigashira while under the fourth Act also throws immense crescent waves of white with the destructive power of ceros.
Bankai: As opposed to it's rather extensive and complicated Shikai form, Namigashira's Bankai is exceedingly simple, the air will grow damp and heavy and a pool about ankle deep with encircle a five hundred foot radius with Yosumi at its center, the sky will darken and dark, pitch black trees lacking texture, smell or any distinguishing shape will sprout wherever they can, the water-based nature of Yosumi's Zanpakuto is attributable to the climate, but it's true power comes in that Namigashira herself, the spirit of the Zanpakuto, armed with a form of herself that varies from First to Fourth Acts will join Yosumi in battle and the two of them will tag-team their opponent(s). Namigashira is however only capable of performing the "act" of the form she's current carrying of herself, this can be switched as she simply has to will herself to change, this is all she can do and is incapable of using even the simplest of Shinigami arts including Kido and Shunpo.

History: Born second in the great Kenhaya clan, Yosumi was considered very nearly a god in his own rite, exceeding even the levels of genius he was labeled a child prodigy as he could match and succeed his own teachers at a young age, however; despite his unparalleled talents Yosumi never once attempted to wrest the title and prestige of Head of Household from his brother, joining the Shinigami Academy against the will of his parents as he felt a great deal of respect for his older brother who was permitted to join the ranks of the Thirteen protection squad, with an ever-remaining yet deep seated admiration for his older brother Yosumi grew up in his brother's shadow, at least insofar as titles and politics went, though even in this, had Yosumi been given the proper attention he'd have succeeded his older sibling.

It wouldn't be long after Yosumi's graduation after only six months at the Shinigami Academy that he joined the Thirteen protection squads as a member of the Ninth Division, choosing the Squad purposefully for its involvement in the justice system, Yosumi quickly rose first to the seat of fifth officer in only a few short days from his entrance, proving himself time and again Yosumi soon found himself in a Vice-Captain position, one that he accepted with hesitation as that placed him on a similar level of prestige as his older brother who was the Lieutenant of another squad. The two soon assumed the relationship of brotherly rivalry with Yosumi opposing the contest and his older brother encouraging it. In the end however; it was during a particularly difficult mission that the aged ninth Division Captain was killed in combat. Yosumi had secretly attained the ability to use Bankai in that time, but had shared that knowledge only with the Captain of his Division who took that secret to the grave with him. It seemed that fate however had conspired to arrange Yosumi as the Captain of Ninth Division for even without the knowledge that he'd obtained Bankai he was promoted to the Captaincy position after a transition period of three months in which he was carefully watched. His ability to lead his squad in his Captain's place as well as his charismatic nature and unmatched talents in all of the Shinigami combat arts as well as his knowledge of politics and the justice system in general it was decided by Recommendation of three squad Captains and a unanimous approval of the remaining nine that Yosumi would be the next Captain of the Ninth Division. For his own part however; Yosumi had no choice but to accept, he knew that he was best suited for the position and that he could lead his squad, however; his hesitation lied in the knowledge that in his promotion he'd rise above his older brother, he accepted all the same however; hoping that his older sibling would realize that the title of head-of-household was still his.

Yosumi's elder brother though didn't see things as his younger brother did, he could only see Yosumi's strength get greater and greater, his name and title rising in a manner that seemed exponential. It was one fateful night only a few weeks after Yosumi's promotion to the Captaincy position that his older brother met him during an evening stroll, no words passed between them, and to this day the only known witness to the battle is Yosumi himself with his younger sister Natsume having born witness to the battle's finale in which their oldest brother died, impaled on his younger brother's Zanpakuto. Outraged Yosumi's parents had him immediately disowned from the family. The act of killing a Lieutenant class Shinigami put Yosumi at odds with the rest of the Gotei 13 as well, the mere act held the promise of execution. Offering no resistance Yosumi was arrested, stripped of his Zanpakuto and rank as both a Captain and a Shinigami as he was at that point held for treason. The Captain Commander replacing the acting commander from the Winter War however held his doubts as to the conditions of death, he'd been familiar with the brother's rivalry and had his suspicions as to the act. He however could not simply dismiss Yosumi's actions, he couldn't bring forth a case based on speculation and so with no other choice altered Yosumi's imminent demise at the last moment, choosing to exile him to earth instead, totally stripped of his powers with such an impressive spirit force he convinced the Council of 46 that Yosumi wouldn't likely last long there any way, and what powers he still had, he would most probably use to defeat hollows while he was still living.

With that in mind, Yosumi was exiled permanently from Soul Society, the Kido corps marking his soul with a kanji that could only be removed by that Captain of those very same corps under the permission of the Acting Captain Commander. In exile, Yosumi found himself eventually at a residence once used a long while ago by another exiled Shinigami, one who no longer stayed in that place. Despite this though, Yosumi remained there choosing to keep the name of the shoppe in honor of he who that dwelt there before him.

Holding no grudge, Yosumi was content to do just as the Captain Commander and the Council of 46 expected of him, attract as many hollow as possible, defeat as many of them with his strength as he could and go down fighting, he held no grudge and fully expected to die, and even at such a level he would have had his former Lieutenant a man from Ninth Division not come to his rescue, returning Yosumi's Zanpakuto along with him. Together they vanquished the remainder of the Hollows and before leaving the younger man assured Yosumi that he still believed in him and that he had to live on to protect the people of earth. Reminded of his purpose as a Shinigami Yosumi took his Zanpakuto and promised his former Lieutenant that he would live, that he would fight and protect so long as he could hold his sword. With that oath passed between them, the younger man left Yosumi behind.

Despite his exile, Yosumi is still allowed to maintain contact with Soul Society and offers a place of shelter as well as a great many devices that Shinigami might use to aid them in battle, though mainly the shoppe acts as simply a store that Yosumi manages for the humans that live on earth and a house for passing Shinigami and other spirit beings.

Appearance: Kenhaya Yosumi isn't very tall, only about five feet and seven inches Yosumi bears a resemblance to being in his mid to late teens his hair is a dark color of brown and is worn to three inches past his shoulders, tied constantly in a ponytail to keep most of the bangs out of his face, his eyes are a brilliant color of blue complimented by his fair skin. Lean and muscular, Yosumi is physically in perfect condition choosing to remain in a Gigai on a constant basis he resembles a perfect version of himself as a spirit, his Gigai however has been altered via his request to attract Hollows in a small manner with the hope that they will come after him rather than a less experienced soul.

Insofar as clothing, Yosumi's garb changes on a near constant basis, he's most fond of either walking about barefoot or in simple flip-flop sandals, he's content with a pair of loose but well-fit pants and a shirt with sleeves that hang longer than usual to just below his elbow, this is his base layer, the pants being a dark brown, his top being a faded color of white, he wears an apron over this when cooking and when out he'll usually sport a Red Sox baseball cap, he has a pair of reading glasses but uses them only as decoration when reading or trying to look smart. His garb changes drastically however upon returning to his soul form.

Even after being stripped of his Shinigami rank, Yosumi prefers the clothing of Feudal Japanese people, they aren't nearly of high quality as the Shinigami wear and tear easily and are rough to the touch. His Kimono top is missing, and instead appears only as him wearing the kosode beneath the white linen now aged is faded, his lower half, covered by Hakama are dark blue but distinctively blue all the same. He wears a short Haori with three lines running along the bottom hem. He gains the use of wearing white tabi and the sandals customarily worn by Shinigami.
