1. Instead of ammonia-based cleaners, use vinegar and water of baking soda and water.
2. Install a low-flush toilet, of place a water/rock filled bottle in the tiolet tank to displace water.
3. Buy plastic garbadge bags that break down in sunlight.
4. Walk or ride a bike instead of using a car for short trips.
5. Ask for paper grocery bags instead of plastic. Don't use a bag for small items.
6. Buy six-packs that use photo-degradable plastic yokes. Discarded yokes can choke waterfowl.
7. Use cloth or biodegradable diapers.
8. Buy eggs and milk in carboard cartons, not plastic.
9. Forget baths, take five-minute showers. This uses 15 gallons of water instead of 30.
10. Don't buy electric tools and appliances when hand-operated ones will do the job.
11. Use mulch and natural ground covers in gardens to contain moisture and conserve water use.
12. Turn off lights in rooms you aren't using.
13. Use high-quality multigrade oil in your car to increase fuel efficiency.
14. Air dry laundry when possible.
15. Make sure your brakes are properly adjusted to avoid drag and save fuel.
16. Avoid keeping your refrigerator or freezer too cold. Government recommended temperature for fresh food is 38 degrees F. for freezers, it's 5degrees F.
17. Don't use excessive amounts of detergent. Pre-soak dirty laundry.
18. Use borax in place of chlorine.
19. Reuse aluminum foil and plastic wrap.
20. Plant trees. Strategically located, trees can reduce heating and cooling bills, prevent soil erosion and reduce air pollution.
21. Collect rain, and set house plants outside during rainstorms.
22. Water lawns and gardens at night, when wvaporation is limited.
23. Do not burn leaves or plastics.
24. Plant marigolds to repel insects from gardens. Other natural pesticides are carried by retail nurseries and garden supply stores.
25. Seperate newspapers, glass, plastic bottles, and jugs, tin and aluminum cans from other garbadge and recycle them.
