“Growth” (Working Title)
The Idea: It's a fantasy RPG about a protagonist and a girl... and how their interactions will influence the girl in the future. It would have dating sim elements, only with one girl; sort of. In a way, you are still choosing from a selection of "bachelorettes", but you don't get to see who exactly that special young lady is until later on. Instead, you help raise a young girl as a childhood friend into the kind of special someone you'd be interested. Though you can also see this from a gameplay prospective instead and think of it as influence the girl's choice of "Character Class" she'll select in the future. Be wary, though: achieving the desired results may involve treating her in a way you might find difficult.
---
Heroine:
Child Form
A sheltered young girl raised in a monastery as long as she can remember. She’s rather shy and insecure, but always means well and puts forth her best effort in things when she can help it. She feels incredibly awkward around the rough attitude of the boy whom she comes to live with after her old home comes under attack. How she comes to relate to this boy later on… depends on the player.
As a character, she plays typical healing/support with decent restorative abilities, but has a frail body that keeps her effective at taking and dishing damage. She’s incabapable of gaining the BEST healing spells as a child, but she has considerable MP and will be a primary healer regardless.
Towards the end of the childhood arc, she somehow gains the confidence to challenge the protagonist to a friendly sword duel despite her considerable disadvantages. The player has two choices: To throw the fight and let her win, or to beat her soundly. However, the later may not be as easy as it seems: she shows surprising promise in combat. Whatever the case, the chosen outcame of this duel may have some impact on her future role in the Adult arc.
Adult;
Warrior Route
This is the result if you acted like a complete douche towards her in the childhood arc. She becomes a tough amazon capable of dealing massive damage and taking a lot of hits, thanks to high HP. Much of her healing prowess is lost and traded in for self-buffs and a fire-based offensive, but she can still heal to some extent.
Rather understandable from the required relationship level, the Heroine in this route does NOT like the protagonist so much. Instead, she seems more interested in proving that she’s far and away better than him as a fighter. She developed a rough, rude, and impulsive personality since the childhood arc. She could care less about what’s right and wrong in the world, as long it’s about her proving her strength. But behind all this toughness and competiveness… there just might be a chance that there’s some leftover feelings from the things the protagonist actually did right.
Priestess Route:
This is the result if you treated her VERY sweetly in the childhood arc. She becomes a cheerful, girly, if somewhat possive young woman with incredible healing and magical prowess. Essentially, her role remains the same as her childhood form, only with better skills, a somewhat sturdier spells, and actual offensive holy and wind magic.
Although she’s grown up quite femminine, she’s also become really social and energetic, and really… REALLY likes the protagonist, almost to the point of clinginess. Heck, she seems to have him on a short leash. She’s not afraid to embrace the materialstic side of life sometimes, and can come off as a rather haughty, but not to the point that it tarnishes her dignity. She also comes off as a bit self-righetous, but internally has a respectable sense of true justice and compassion.
Rune Knight Route:
This is the result if you treat her like a true friend in the childhood arc, showing some rationale between showing kindness while at the same time snapping her out of cowardice in appropriate ways. She becomes a sweet, yet strong-willed warrior with a great defense due to her choice in armor, but otherwise balanced stats that make her an impressive, well-rounded character. She possesses powerful lighting magic and support spells, and while she looses out on the greatest of healing magic overall, she still gains above-average spells that would make her more effective than in her childhood stage.
Kind, yet strong; Calm but determined; she has grown up to be an ideal lady of war after rigorous training in various arts. Despite what she has gained, she remains a humble young lady in the eyes of those she serves; however, don’t expect her to show you much mercy should you face her as a foe. She’s grown to become close friends with a protagonist, but a romantic relationship isn’t so apparent. Instead, they’ve developed a friendly rivalry in sparring. Apparently, she has gained quite an edge since their first duel in childhood. Somehow, she's also gained a bit of a playful and smartalecky side despite the dedication she placed in her training. She has no qualms in showing up the hero and doesn't hesitate to put him in his place when he's out of line.
The Hero, Menos
Child:
The aforementioned protagonist. As a child, he’s a bit of a stubborn, self-rigeous, impulsive smartass, but one with an uncanny common sense. He’s constantly off to prove his strength and skill to others, and is actually a decent prodigy of the sword for one of his age. The heroine’s considerable lack of confidence unnerves him at first. He sees her shyness as grating and unapealling. Whether or not he starts to warm up to her, however… depends on the player.
He’s a mostly well-balanced fighter, with a somewhat higher emphasis on HP and speed. He learns a few techniques that allow him to hurt his foes in many ways, but as a child, he cannot access every technique yet and cannot use them at full strength. Still, he’s a realiable warrior that can handle the front lines rather well.
Adult:
He’s not so wild anymore grown up, and loss some initial stoicness to become a more laidback warrior; however, his arrogance and fighting spirit remain intact. Of course, his talent with the sword can only grow. He’s become stronger, more athletic, and all-around tougher grown up, ad now he can put even a good number of his older peers to shame with his talent. Depending on his interactions with the heroine in childhood, he may or may not show a bit of a soft side towards her at this age. If not, this it’s at this age when it may start to develop.
For the most part, his stats would be the same as a childhood, but with one major difference: his attack power really starts to outclass his other stats. Of course, he’ll also have many more techniques and can easily be the greatest offensive powerhouse of the party… if you chose to keep the heroine from being this.
Haad:
He’s a Paladin and Escort/Bodyguard to the heroine, chosen to keep her from harm as they travel to the new orphanage. He takes pride in his duty while acting as a brother-figure to the girl. Unfortunatley, fate isn’t quite so generous to him as they close in on their destination…
What can you expected from an armored man except to be a tank? He’s got a high defense, high strength, and decent speed as a fighter. But if you couldn’t tell from the previous text, he’s going to die… and die early. Well, someone had to keep the two leveled character from dying too often and early in the beginning, right?
Gregor:
He’s Menos’ Foster Father/Brother/Mentor from the Orphanage, and a really patient kind of guy with a love for knowledge. His lack of obvious physical prowess and his kindly, easy going nature makes him come off as a weakling at first, but he knows his way around a mace and shield that he can smack plenty of sense in those who may underestimate him. It doesn’t hurt that he studied the healing and offensive arts, either. Maybe there’s a reason as to why some fondly call him “Sir Gregor The Wise”….
He’s the Party’s Sage, and Haad’s more formidable replacement. Although he isn’t quite as well-armored or stacked in HP, he starts off as the party’s best healer AND spellcaster in the childhood arc, and his melee damage isn’t so bad, either. He returns in the Adult Arc wiser than ever, with greater offensive magic to show for it. His usefulness to the party remains constant, and if you decided not to go the Priestess Route for the Heroine, Gregor will retain his status as greatest group healer.
Tessa:
She’s a girl the group meets along the way. She's a quick and plucky girl, but always earnest and willing to lend a hand. Both Menos and the Heroine quickly come to like her and see her as a lovable older sister. Her weapon of choice is her trusty wooden bomberang.
Class-wise, she would have the stats and skills of a thief- she's fast, versatile, and can take useful items and/or money from enemies. However, her boomerang would give her an offensive range, especially with the appropriate techniques she cooks up with it. She finds a way to return to the group in the Adult Arc. Still considering her grown-up look...
