Our angel in the sky

Today you spread your wings,
and you decided to fly away.
God took you into his hands,
And he asked you to please stay.

He promised you he'd take care of you,
And he swore you wouldn't be alone.
For you had us down on Earth,
The place you always called home.

And even though you can't touch us now,
You'll always be able to see,
That even though you went to heaven,
You will always be a part of me.

He swore you'd never forget us,
Because you'd always be in our hearts.
And even if we can't feel you,
We know that we will never be apart.

Because you are our guardian,
Our angel in the sky.
And even though you left us here,
Your soul will never die.

You will live within me forever,
You will guide me through this life.
Because you are my father,
And you are the one my heart longs for at night.

I promise I'll see you again one day,
But I know it won't be too soon.
Because you made me the person I am,
Your strength lives within me, too.

Even though I wish you stayed,
I often wonder if,
Heaven needed someone like you,
To make it through something harder than this.

Maybe God has a plan for all of us,
And maybe he needed you by his side.
To help people through the strife,
To continue to live, instead of hide.

Everything happens for a reason, Dad,
And even though I still wonder why,
I know that I will figure it out one day,
And we will slowly heal, in time.

You're watching over me now,
I can feel your spirit deep within.
Promise to hold my hand through it all,
I can still feel the touch of your skin.

The gleam in your eyes when you smiled,
The happiness in your voice.
These will always be my memories, Daddy,
By chance, and by choice.

So, be good to God up in heaven, Daddy,
and I promise I'll see you sometime soon.
Wait for me at the gates of Heaven,
Until then, I will search for your smile in the moon.
