D8
Emily walked through the base, sulking as usual. She reached up to her forehead and pulled off her headband, clenching her fingers around it.

"Xavier..." she murmured, looking into the reflection of the jewel embedded in black fabric.

She shut her eyes tight and pressed her back against the wall, a few tears slipping down her cheeks.

How could you have betrayed my trust like that...? Why...why did I have to be so Goddamn blind to what he was up to?! she thought to herself, dragging her gaze to the ceiling.

She thought back to the first time suspicion had struck her...

Emily walked through the woods, searching for her fiance in high hopes she could see him before the war.

"Xavier? Where are you...?" she called out, grabbing onto trees and pushing herself off of them.

She hadn't seen him in awhile as it is and she was beginning to miss him like crazy.

"Xavier! Are you around here anywhere? Xavier!"

"Xavier..." another feminine voice called. Emily stopped walking and looked around.

"Hello?" she asked.

"Xavier...teehee....stop..."

Emily felt like her heart had stopped for a moment. She followed the voices and then stopped abruptly when she heard a familiar chuckle.

"Xavier!" she shouted as loud as she could. The giggles had stopped then along came some shuffling then eventually the man she was searching for had came bursting out of the bushes.

"E-Emily?"

She looked at him, her eyes knitting together and her brown eyes tearing up.

"Who's here with you...?" she asked, reaching for the hilt of her sword. She could feel anger build up inside of her, but more so the aching in her heart.

Xavier shook his head and took a step towards her. "No one. I was bathing in the river ahead, why?"

Emily didn't believe him at this point. She knew she wasn't hearng things. Her long ears don't lie.

"I heard a woman calling out your name. And you chuckling and..." she trailed off, clenching her teeth.

Xavier reached his hands out to her, grabbing her arms and pulling her towards hm into a tight embrace.

"You're so paranoid...there's no woman here. No one but you, me, the trees and the animals of the forest."

Emily's heart thuded in her chest before she put her arms around him in return, holding him just as tight. "You promise?"

He chuckled again and kissed the top of her head. "Course I do. Come on, let's get back to base...we can make a stop at my house for something to eat and some alone time together."

She smiled widely, her cheeks and ears slowly turning bright red. "Okay then, let's go."

Xavier looked over his shoulder and then back at his fiancee. "Alright, sweetheart, gimme a sec though. I left my gear back at the edge of the river. Be right back, love ya," he explained, kissing her cheek and running off.

Emily nodded and waited patiently. "Maybe I was just hearing things. My jealousy just getting the best of me."

"Emily."

Emily snapped back into the present for a sec, blinking and looking over to see her father standing there.

"Dad...Uh, I'm sorry....General Cohen," she stammered, quickly tying her bandane around her head again.

As she did so, her father reached his gloved hand out to her, touching her forearm, causng her to pause.

"...?"

Her father looked at her through his stern, dark brown eyes. "It's alright, you're not amongst your peers."

She let her hands fall back down to her sides, slipping the bandana off once again. "Oh...thanks...."

"What's bothering you? Is it Xavier?"

She sighed and turned her face on her father. "No, of course not. Why should I worry about some stupid b*****d such as himself? He's not worthy of my time nor my affections. Never was...."

General Cohen raised an eyebrow at his daughter, grabbing her chin and gently making her look at him.

"Emily...?"

She frowned and folded her arms. "Okay, so I was thinking about the undeserving a*****e."

"A man that swears his love to a woman then commits such a heinous disloyalty such as that should have his heart ripped out and be forced to feed upon that black goop inside his chest...Though I believe he deserves much worse for doing that to MY daughter," Areux replied, angrily.

Emily felt a little moved by her father's words, though they were quite graphic... She smiled beneath the rim of her cloak and hugged her father tightly.

Areux was a bit taken aback by her actions, not knowing what to do at the moment. "Uh...Um...hm...."

Emily knited her eyebrows together and smiled sheepishly.

"It's alrght, dad..."

General Cohen raised an eyebrow and put his arms around his daughter, returning her hug.

"I'm sorry, I'm afraid I'm not quite use to showing so much affection...after your mother died, I..."

"I know dad. Don't worry too much about it. I know you love me. Anton knows you love him...that's all that counts, right?"

Areux lifted his right hand and uncovered his mouth a little before kissing the top of his daughter's head.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Emily walked along the dirt path that stretched throughout the large field she occupied. The wind picked up, blowing a cool breeze past her face.

"God damn wind!!" she griped, growling and pulling her cloak tight around her. "I'm cold..." she grumbled some more, her eyes narrowing.

"You really should learn to control your anger, Em," her partner lectured. He was a lean, tall man almost as white as alabaster. Of course that's to be expected since he was among the living dead.

"Up yours, blood sucking leech..." she retorted.

Anton, her partner, sighed and shrugged her off. "So how long has it been since we've seen our home, my wife and our dad?"

Emily's eyes softened. "A month...Where the hell is this damn Barton Town anyway?! We've been travelling for a long as hell time now...Damn animated...ugh..." she muttered, scratching behind her black kitty's ears.

"Ah! Such a cute wittle kitty, yes you are! My wittle kitty...." she cooed, rubbing her nose against it's own.

The black kitty rubbed against it's owner's face. "Mreow!"

Anton sneered. "I hate felines...Why'd you hafta bring that overgrown rat?"

Emily clenched her teeth and shot another glare at Anton. "HE'S NOT A RAT! HE'S A KITTY! A cute and cuddly wittle kitten!" she replied, rubbing her face against the kitty's face.

The kitty pounced onto her shoulders and lounged itself there. Emily looked forward again, seeing some lights and buildings ahead.

"Hey, looks like a town. Maybe it's Barton."

Anton squinted his eyes at the brightlights, turning his head almost instantly.

"Yeah, maybe. Huh, what a sad little town."

Emily rolled her eyes, picking up the pace. "You're such a jerkass, Anton. Those people must have lights all over the city so they can stay safe from the animated....or a*****e vampires like yourself," she said, grinning at the last part.

Anton folded his arms and ignored his friend. "Don't forget why we're here. Don't go off mingling with strangers or falling inlove."

Emily raised an eyebrow at him. "I do not always go off and fall inlove!"

"Yeah you do. Since Xavier left you, you've been trying to replace him with the first guy who comes along."

"Ah! I do not! Only the ones that are gentlemen or like me because of my sparkling personality...."

Anton grinned. "Yeah, until they meet the REAL you...and your anger issues."

"Shut up, Anton..."

"And your jealousy issues."

"SHUT UP ANTON."

"And your horrible cooking."

"SCREW YOU!" with that, Emily lunged at him only to have him manuever around her and allow her to land on her face.

"Ugh! uh...ew...pfft..." she spat out some dirt and sat up, looking up at him and glaring.

"I swear, the first Vampire hunter we find, I'm letting him slay your a**...."

Anton was busy noticing the town getting bigger. "Hey, we're almost there, let's hurry it up."

"Right, put some pep in your vimpire step, Anton!" she demanded, getting to her feet and walking forward.

As they neared the city, they were stopped by a couple of guards. "I'm sorry, but you cannot go into the town this way."

"Why not?" Anton asked.

The guard scratched the back of his head. "We have strict orders not to allow just anyone into the city limits. You'll have to take the subway."

Emily looked over to a large opening in the ground with steps leading down. "Is that the subway?"

"Indeed it is. You take those steps down to the platform and wait for the subway with the others."

"The others?" Emily asked.

"The other warriors in training. We've designed a battle program for the defenseless against the animated," the guard explained.

Anton started walking for the steps, leaving Emily to sigh and follow along

"Merow..."

Emily looked over at her kitty and smiled faintly. "I'm sorry kitty, I know it's cold....come on, let's go in."

As they departed to the staircase, Emily shook her head and rubbed her temples. "I have a headache."

"Form getting so pissed off all the time, prolly."

"Yeah...So did dad say what kind of information we're suppose to retrieve?" she asked, changing the subject.

Anton shifted his shoulders around a bit. "General Cohen said that we were to explore four different areas around Barton for a collection of battle data. Then journey to the other major cities of Gaia and do the same. Apparently we need to find out why this happened, who's behind it, what other types of things are infected by the animated and learn how to nuetralize them."

"That last part would come in handy. No one knows how to take them down...can't even slash them in half...well, what are all the areas of Barton we have to go over?" Emily wondered aloud.

"Bass'ken Lake, Zen Gardens, Gold Beach and Bill's Ranch."

"That's it? What about the rest of Barton? Aren't we suppose to be keeping them safe as well?"

Anton sighed and looked over at her. "General Cohen said our greatest concern is to watch out for eachother and get that information. We're not to get socially involved with anyone."

Emily narrowed her eyes. "God dammit, Dad...He's so selfish sometimes. What if someone needs our help? What if those animated are close to killing someone and we just so happen to be there?"

"General Co--"

"Anton! Stop calling him that. He's dad to us, dammit...."

"ADOPTIVE father....Either way, I'm seeing to it that we come here to get what we need and then we move out."

"Fine..." Emily said softly, looking away from her brother. Anton kept his eyes on her until he felt his foot on solid ground. "We're finally at the bottom of these ridiculously long stairs."

"I see that, WOAH..."

Among them were a horde of people waiting for the subway apparently. They were all dressed rather oddly, talking loudly, and beginning to irritate Emily and Anton.

"AH! CUTE KITTY! Awww it's so cute! Can I touch him? OMIGOD I TOUCHED THE KITTY!" someone yelled, grabbing the kitty off of Emily's shoulder.

"HEY! Grrrr...." she growled, balling up her fists before reaching for the girl. SHe spun her around, reeled her fist back and harshly slammed it into her face.

The girl fell backwards from the force, dropping the kitty. Before the poor thing hit the ground, Emily caught him and huggled him tightly.

"Ah! My poor Kitty, everyone wants to steal you from me! Dammit, why must you be so damn cute?!"

"Uh, Em? Let's get going, the subway's coming," Anton notified her, pulling her towards him by her arm.

"Right, let's go."

As the duo entered the subway, they carefully made their ways to the back in hopes of finding bare seats. Of course when they made it, there were none.

"Guess we're standing," Anton commented, grasping onto a pole.

Emily banged her head against the pole she was near and groaned. "Uuugh for the whole ride there...Ack! Stop....SHOVING!" she yelled, shoving some people away from her.

As the subway started to move forward, Emily lowered her head and pulled her cloak over her mouth a little.

Suddenly she felt her pack start rumbling. "Huh?"

SHe looked to her side and out popped a familiar little angel imp. "Ah! Melanie! What are you doing there??" she whisper yelled.

The imp looked up at her as the flap to the pack hung off her head.

"You brought Melanie with us?!" Anton whispered to her.

"Uh, not by choice, she musta snuck in. Melanie whaddya tryin to accomplish?"

The imp's wins flapped a little as she smiled up at her masters.

Emily sighed and patted her head.
