Beep. Beep. Beep.
"Bleh...not yet..."
Beep. Beep. Beep.
"Mom! Could you turn off the alarm? I'm not ready to get up yet..."
Beep. Beep. Beep.
"Oh for goodness sakes," Lyxcae grumbled, sitting up from her bed. Then her eyes adjusted to the dim light of the room she had mistaken for her own. The events of the past day came flooding back to her. She looked over at Jallxian’s melancholy alarm clock and looked at its bright green, digital numbers. The clock read 7 a.m.
Lyxcae sighed sadly. “Oh yeah…Mom’s not here. I’m not home anymore.”
Jallxian groaned from underneath a red blanket on the bed. “Laylay! Turn off the damn alarm! Its way too early to get up!” She poked her head up from her nest of blankets and sheets. Her hair was even frizzier than it had been earlier.
“B-but Jallxian, its already 7 in the morning. Breakfast will be served soon,” Leyxsha said, stepping out of Jallxian’s bathroom. By the looks of it, she had been up for some time.
“Yeah, at 7:30! I still got, like, 15 or 20 more minutes to sleep! Some people don’t function properly until at least 11:30,” she sat up and rubbed her eyes, “When the hell did you get up anyway?”
“Umm…around 6:30...” The nervous Nobody said quietly.
“Holy crap! 6:30! Only crazy people and old ladies wake up that early Laylay! No 23 year old should be caught waking up before noon!”
“Well…I c-couldn’t sleep…”
The frizzy haired girl sighed in defeat. “Whatever, just get outta the bathroom so I can get ready,” she mumbled, swinging her feet over the side of the bed.
“D-did you sleep well Lyxcae?” Leyxsha asked Lyxcae after Jallxian had disappeared into the bathroom.
“Yeah, I slept okay I guess,” she answered, “You said you couldn’t sleep though. Why? Is there something on your mind?”
“Oh! Umm…not really…I-its just that I don’t sleep well in beds that aren’t mine…and I’ve always had trouble sleeping…”
“Do you have insomnia or something?” Lyxcae asked.
“No…its not that…” she said, smiling kindly. But Lyxcae saw that the smile didn’t reach her eyes. She began fidgeting with something on her wrist, but it was too dark in the room to make out what it was.
“Well, I’m really sorry about the whole bedroom incident,” The blonde Nobody said, smiling sheepishly, “Guess I was just really stressed out and nervous.”
“D-don’t worry about it,” Leyxsha laughed, “We a-all get nervous our fist day. It goes away after awhile.”
“Well it must be your first day all the time,” Lyxcae, thought to herself, “You can’t go one sentence without stuttering.”
“Alrighty folks! Who needs the bathroom next!” Jallxian shouted, leaving the bathroom door open behind her.
“Me,” Lyxcae said blandly, standing up.
----
The trio sat down to breakfast and talked amongst themselves. Jallxian pestered Lyxcae with questions about her home world and what her life was like before the Heatless.
“You farmed? How boring!” Jallxian whined, “I figured you might have actually been something cool before you lost your heart.”
“Hey! Living on a farm is cool! There are horses, and cows, and chickens, and there’s always something fresh to eat in the fridge,” Lyxcae said hotly. She was very proud of her life before all the chaos.
“Booooring,” Jallxian said, putting an elbow on the table and resting her cheek in her palm.
“Hmph, alright then Miss “I Hate Farms”, what did you do before you lost your heart?”
The blonde Nobody noticed a change in her friend’s face almost immediately. Her eyes took on a far off, yet icy look. “Nothing important.”
Lyxcae decided not to press further, so she turned to her mostly silent companion beside her. “What about you? What did you do before you joined the Organization?”
“M-me!?” She asked, looking startled, “I…I worked w-with my p-parents…in a flower shop we owned…”
“Really? Neat.”
“Yeah….neat,” Leyxsha said, growing even quieter. She almost looked ready to cry.
“Okay, what the hell? Why are they so touchy about themselves, yet they have no problem asking me about how my life was!?” Lyxcae thought.
“I…I have to go!” Leyxsha said quickly, picking up her plate and practically tripping over her chair in the process.
“Kay, just don’t trip on your way to the sink Laylay!” Jallxian called behind her. After watching Leyxsha depart for a few moments, she nudged Lyxcae in the side with her elbow.
“What?” she asked, curious as to why she was being prodded.
“Keep watching her, I think things are about to get good,” Jallxian snickered.
Lyxcae wore a puzzled expression on her face, but did as she was told. But she soon noticed what was so funny.
Demyx was heading the same way as her, and Leyxsha wasn’t paying any attention to where she was going.
The blonde Nobody smacked her forehead as she watched her older companion crash into the blue eyed man, both of them tumbling to the ground. Jallxian laughed hysterically at this, and so did some of the other members. Others either sighed or mumbled something about being the eighth time this week.
Demyx stood up quickly and apologized. His face was growing a shade of pink as he offered to help Leyxsha up. Leyxsha’s face was a deep crimson and she spoke quickly and quietly. It was too far away to tell, but Lyxcae was pretty sure she was apologizing as well.
“Poor Leyxsha! Doesn’t she like that guy?” Lyxcae asked a still laughing Jallxian.
“Yeah! I saw him get up at the same time as Laylay. I just knew she was going to crash into him! She’s such a klutz! This is the best!”
Lyxcae sighed and looked back at the two embarrassed Nobodies, and she noticed that Leyxsha was a head taller than Demyx. Leyxsha had opened a portal behind her and slipped into the darkness, her face still red as a tomato. Demyx reached out, like he still had something to say to her, but she disappeared before he could say it. He sighed deeply as Axel and Roxas approached him, Axel laughing as hard as Jallxian was. Roxas gave Axel a disapproving look and smacked him across the head. The red-head grumbled and rubbed the back of his skull.
Just as the trio was about to step away from the mess of bacon and pancakes, Demyx looked down at the floor and cocked an eyebrow. He bent down and picked up something thin and shiny off the floor. Demyx looked over at the two girls and approached them.
“What’cha want Water Boy?” Jallxian asked, leaning back in her chair and locking her fingers together behind her head.
“Well, I think Leyxsha dropped something when I bumped into her,” Demyx said, dropping the object into Jallxian’s hand, “Could you give it back to her? It looks kinda old, so I figured it must be important.”
Jallxian inspected the object. It was an old looking bracelet made of a very thin chain of silver. It had a beautiful rose charm made of some sort of red rock hanging off the end of it.
“And tell her that I’m really sorry I bumped into her. I should’ve been paying more attention to where I was going.”
“Hey!” Axel called from across the room, “We gotta get going! Hurry up!”
“Coming!” the Nocturne yelled back, “See ya later girls.” Demyx hustled back to his friends and they disappeared into a dark portal.
Jallxian continued to look at the bracelet. “Jeez, this thing looks older than me…”
Lyxcae looked over at her companion. “You say something?”
“No,” Jallxian said, “But we better get this back to Laylay! C’mon!”
----
Leyxsha sat against the wall in one of the castle’s many hallways, her face buried in her knees and her glasses placed by her side. She barely even knew where she was, she just opened a portal and rushed into it. Anywhere was better than the dining hall…
She groaned. She couldn’t believe what she had just done. She had just crashed in Demyx. Demyx! Leyxsha wanted to just curl up and fade right there.
Suddenly, she saw a flash of silver and red wave in front of her eyes. A very familiar flash of silver and red. Leyxsha gasped and grabbed the object; her bracelet.
Jallxian laughed. “I thought you might have wanted that back.”
The tall Nobody looked up from her knees, she hadn’t even noticed that her precious bracelet had been missing, or that she was no longer alone in the hallway. “But…how did you guys find me?”
Lyxcae huffed. “We had to search every hallway in this wing to find you! You’re lucky Jallxian asked Zexion to sniff you out, or we would have never found you! Who knew that guy had such a strong sense of smell…”
Leyxsha sniffed and wiped her eyes. “Thank you so much…I-I didn’t even notice it was gone…”
“Don’t thank us,” Jallxian said coyly, “You should be thanking Demyx. He’s the one who found it on the floor and asked us to give it back to you.”
“D-Demyx!?” Leyxsha squeaked.
“Uh-huh. Ain’t that sweet of him?”
The nervous Nobody mumbled quietly and put her bracelet back on her right wrist, blushing deeply. She stood up and put her silver glasses back on.
“Alrighty then, c’mon guys, Superior was kind enough to send us on a mission today,” the energetic Nobody said, sighing in disgust.
“Where are we going?” Lyxcae asked.
“Some place called Konohagakure. Apparently Ice Man wants us to check out some new kind of Nobody that’s surfaced there.”
“D-Do you think its one of the s-specialized type?” asked Leyxsha.
Lyxcae cocked a blonde eyebrow. “Specialized? What do you mean?”
“A s-specialized Nobody is a type of N-Nobody that only follows orders from a single member of Organization XVI. F-For example, Dragoons only listen to Xaldin a-and Snipers only listen to Xigbar,” Leyxsha explained.
“But…I thought we were the only kinds of Nobodies. There are others?”
“N-No, there are others. But they are n-not very intelligent, so t-they follow our orders. I-I’ll show you a Dusk later, then you’ll understand.”
“Hey! What if one of us get to control it! That would be flippin’ sweet!” Jallxian said excitedly, jumping up and down.
“Hmm, weird. Well, whatever, lets just get going then. I’m kind of excited to see these other worlds!” Lyxcae said, her green eyes shining.
“Well then,” Jallxian said, grabbing Leyxsha’s sleeve, “What the hell are we waiting for! Lets get going!” She created an inky portal and dragged the tall Nobody into it with her. Lyxcae laughed, feeling sorry for her tall friend being dragged around by someone no bigger than half her height, and stepped into the portal as well.
----
It was a beautiful day in Konoha Village. The sun was shining, children laughed in the streets, and small birds sang a simple song in the trees. But all this went unnoticed by the orange clad ninja trudging through the streets.
“On vacation the sign says…my favorite ramen shop isn’t open because Teuchi and Ayame wanted a vacation!” Naruto yelled. Then he slumped to his knees in defeat, his stomach growling like a hungry beast. “Gah! This is horrible!”
His teammates behind him sighed.
“Naruto, its just a ramen shop, it’ll open back up in a week,” Sasuke said blandly.
“Yeah! Sasuke’s right! Why don’t you try eating some real food until then?” Sakura said.
“B-But I can’t live without it! I need it!”
Sakura sighed deeply again. “Well, we can talk about this later. Kakashi-sensei is waiting for us at the training grounds.”
Naruto stood up quickly. “You actually believe that he’s already there!? If I know Kakashi-sensei, he probably isn’t even halfway there yet!”
“Whatever, lets just get going,” Sasuke said, walking past the hyperactive ninja.
“W-Wait for me Sasuke!” Sakura called to him.
Finally, Naruto decided it was probably best to go too, so he followed his teammates with his head down to the training grounds.
----
“Whoa, for a village in the middle of nowhere, Konoha is pretty big!” Lyxcae said, looking at the large village through a pair of binoculars. The Nobody trio was sitting in a large tree overlooking the concealed ninja village.
“So, there are really ninja’s here? That is sooooo cool!” Jallxian said, hanging upside down from a branch.
“B-Be careful Jallxian,” Leyxsha said, a worried look on her face, “You c-could fall and b-break your neck!”
“I’ll be fine!”
Lyxcae looked over at the pair and sighed. She leafed through the folder containing the details of their mission. Apparently a unique type of Nobody had been sighted near this strange village, and it was their job to bring one of them back as a sample to Vexen.
“Well,” Jallxian said, swinging her body upright, “What are we waiting for! Lets go catch us a Nobody!” She jumped down from branch to branch until she finally landed on the soft earth below. Lyxcae followed suite.
Leyxsha stood up, but quickly grabbed on the trunk for dear life. Instead of risking her life jumping down, she decided to portal to the bottom instead.
After searching for an hour and a half, they discovered a way into the village. They climbed through a whole in a metal fence and silently made their way through a patch of forest until they came upon what appeared to be a training ground. Four people were there: A pink haired girl staring dreamily at a black-haired boy who was throwing shuriken at a wooden dummy, an orange clad, blonde-haired boy who also stared at the black-haired boy, but he appeared to be competing with him, and under a shady tree was a young looking, white-haired man with a mask reading a book.
Finally, the man looked up from his book at his students and called that it was time for lunch. The blonde boy jumped up and down excitedly and the other two slowly made their way toward the tree. Then they all pulled out a box filled with food and began eating.
Jallxian drooled, she hadn’t eaten since breakfast, and those lunches were looking very tasty…
Lyxcae looked over at her drooling companion and smacked her. It was not the time to be drooling over another person’s food.
Suddenly, something white and large burst into the clearing and exploded into motion.
