“Nightsong my feet hurt”, said Roan “can we stop.” They had been on patrol all night. Roan stretched out his long wings and yawned. “Roan you are a wolf” , said Nightsong “you should get use to this because you will do this a lot now that your mother Eclipse is leader of the pack.” Nightwing chuckled, “yeah old Roan get used to it.” Nightsong growled at them, “shut up you idiots someone’s coming.” Suddenly Whitewood walked out of the bushes. “Hello Nightsong, Roan, Nightwing how’s the patrol” , he asked . “if these two would be quite we would probley be able to bring back some food too”, said Nightsong. “Now Nightsong you are expecting pups so be careful ok”, demanded Whitewood. “ok I will”, she growled with dismay. “ See you all at the cave, be back by dawn though Darkside’s pups are these pups become apprentices’. We have all taken care of them as they were pups and now we are here to witness them grow older “, becoming apprentices’ and one will become yours Nightwing”, said Whitewood cheerfully. Nightwing smiled as Whitewood stalked off. “Come on lets hurry so we can get back”, she exclaimed. As soon as they got back the ceremony was about to begin. “We are all here to witness” Eclipses voice rang through the cave, “Ghostpup you come first.” ,the pup shyly got up and walked over to the high ledge, “ Roan you will be Ghostpups mentor but for now he needs a name so from now on Ghostpup will Ghosttail. You may now unite.”, Roan walked up and touched Ghosttails nose. “Shadowpup step up please, ok Nightsong you will be Shadowpups mentor, but now to the important business you will now be known as Shadowtail, you may now unite.” “ New Mentors and apprentices’ you may now start learning, and Nightsong be careful we don’t want the pups hurt ok,” exclaimed Eclipse. Nightsong just grunted a reply. ‘Why cant everyone treat me the same just because I’m expecting pups’ she thought as they walked away. “First Shadowtail you must corner your pray then you attack it but you must bite it in the neck remember this for you could get killed doing it any other way.” “You must always be with three other wolves to hunt caribou or you could be killed.” After a while of hunt training Nightsong walked back with Shadowtail. As they arrived everyone was clouding around high ledge. “We are here to thank the Dark Ones for the feast we will have tonight” said Eclipse. “They have blessed us with food and shelter as long as our kind have lived. We must take time to thank them for their generosity. Every full moon we feast and thank them but tonight is also a very special night my first litter of pups was born on this night two years ago. Roan, Nightwing, Shadowclaw, and Darkstripe Happy Birthday my children.” “now we feast.” Eclipses voice rang out against the walls in the cave. All the wolves ran out the cave in one union. Once they found the herd they got in the formation and took on a sick female. They soon took her down and took the kill back for the nursing moms and pups. “Nightsong when are you going to have your pups” asked Shadowtail. “ I don’t know but soon Shadowtail soon” said Nightsong. As soon as they got back Nightfern had gathered some herbs and brought back a pup she had found in the snow, nearly froze to death, and had brought her back. When they got back Nightfern was repeatedly asking the pup her name but all she could say was mom. “she’s in shock but I think she’s from the water tribe because of her sleek coat.” said Nightfern. “well I will send a patrol tomorrow to see if a mother is missing her pup I know how it fells” whispered eclipse, “I might go to just to show we are not a threat.” The next morning they walked to the river tribes cave “We need to speak with Darkwater”, said Eclipse. When they got to Darkwaters cave his voice rang out “What do you want Eclipse?” “We have come to ask if you are missing a pup she has a sleek gray coat with dark blue eyes” , said Eclipse. “Yes Riverflow is missing her pup Bluewater. She disappeared three days ago when we were attacked we thought they had killed her.” “Well she is safe at our camp if you want when she is through the frostbite I will personally bring her back or Riverflow and some guards can come to get her now. But I think Nightfern should take her so she can recover she has no memory either,” explained Eclipse. “Watercloud go get Riverflow so we can ask her opinion but tell her nothing I want to see her expression” chuckled Darkwater. “Yes sir”, said Watercloud. When Riverflow walked in she had on a grave expression “ You called for me sir.” “Yes your pup Bluewater is safe in Shadow tribes nursery”, said Darkwater. Riverflows’ expression turned to pure joy. “But I think you should make the choice of moving her or leaving her. She is in bad condition Eclipse said they would bring her back as soon as she is well again.” explained Darkwater. Riverflow thought a few moments, “you promise to bring my daughter back safe?” “Yes I will keep my word.” promised Eclipse. “Then she may stay but as soon as she is well she must come back to River tribe.” “As you wish” said Eclipse, “We will go now and we will take care of your daughter.” Eclipse opened her long wings and flew off, and after her the guards. As they got back to camp Nightsong was just starting to give birth. “Nightsong you are doing fine” Whispered Nightfern. “Keep pushing” whispered Darkstripe. “That’s three pups Nightsong, good work.” said Nightfern. “You did it Nightsong, you did it” said Darkstripe. “Where is Blackwing?” asked Nightsong. “He is asleep right now but when he wakes we will send him here I promise”, said Eclipse. “Thank you Eclipse.” “You are welcome now rest we will wake you when he comes.” “Yes, Thank you Eclipse.” “Yes my child” ,explained Eclipse. As Eclipse walked out Blackwing walked up, “Is she ok? Are the pups hurt?” “No, Blackwing she and the pups are fine, but she wants to see you she said to wake her. Do you mind if I come with you?” exclaimed Eclipse “No, I do not mind’, said Blackwing. As they walked in Nightsong lifted her head “Blackwing, your awake. Look this pup looks like you.” She pointed to a small pup with dark black wings. “And I have names for them to the one looks like you will be Shadowpup, the little gray one is Graypup, and the little brown one is Blackpup.” explained Nightsong.
