That Damned Cat

Dragon had only just stepped off of Jörmungandr's back when AUNTIE-D approached and played a message from Rose.

"If her parents were alive right now," Dragon muttered as AUNTIE-D started to walk off, "they'd probably shoot me for letting her go off with a pair of unknown mammals."

Noticing the rest had already headed to the house except for Flan, Dragon said, "What?"

< Nothing, > Flan said. < She's not your biological child and you're more concerned for her than your own. >

"That's because you mammals are easier to kill than re--" Dragon began to say when a large furry something tackled her from behind.

"I ought to kill you where you stand, Mammal Killer!" the thing on Dragon's back snarled. "Run, old woman. I'll keep her distracted while you get to saftey!"

< Dragon? > Flan asked.

Transforming into her dragon form, Dragon threw the furry being off her back and climbed to all fours. "What comes around, Daichym, goes around!"

The cat dragon, having been knocked to her side when Dragon threw it off, rolled to her feet. "Is that a challenge?"

"You'd better believe it!" Dragon shot back.

< Dragon? > Flan repeated as the two dragons, one reptile and one mammal, squared off.

Rushing at each other, Dragon and Dai transformed into their human forms at the last second. Three feet shorter than Dragon when in human form, Dai leapt forward into a roll and knocked Dragon's legs out from under her. When Dragon landed on the ground, Dai leapt on her back and pumped a fist into the air. "I have conquered the mighty Dragon! Ha!"

< Riiiiiight, > Flan said. < I'm just going to go have me some rum and sleep for a week. >

Pulling Dai off her back and tucking the smaller girl under an arm as she climbed to her feet, Dragon said, "Don't plan on sleeping long. We're going to be busy."

< Friend of yours? > Flan asked as they walked to the house.

"Sadly yes," Dragon replied.

"Hey I'll have some rum if you've got any extra!" Dai said happily.

"Don't give her any," Dragon said, turning to the study while shifting Dai to her other arm. "Nerissa, I want the study in Private Mode. Dai and I have to talk."

"Affirmative," Nerissa Altsoba said from one of the holoscreens on the wall.
