Addiction is a strange thing. It can be mental. It can be physical. People can become addicted to almost anything, the obvious being drugs and alcohol. But anything can become an addiction. Food for instance can be an addictive. Some people cannot help but eat. Sex can be addictive for some. Video games, sleep, television, music, etc.

I myself have a slightly addictive personality. Of course it is mixed in with that little bit of ADD I have. Often I will become addicted to something, mostly video games and music, for two weeks. I say two weeks because that's about average. For that time I am totally consumed by the object of my desire, and then as time goes on I grow lose interest.

Addiction is strange when it is mental. You convince yourself that you need what it is you are addicted to. You feel like that is the one thing that will truly make you happy. And yeah, for a while it will make you happy, but at the same time it starts to take away the other things in your life that also make you happy, and more so in most cases. The only way to overcome is to tell yourself that you don't need that thing you desire, or just wait until you lose interest.

Now physical addiction is something completely different. When you are physically addicted to something your body is in control. You begin to have withdrawals and can actually feel physical pain. It is strange to think that the body can grow to need some foreign substance. Of course I guess it is because whatever it is that addicts you starts to change the inner workings of your body, especially the chemical balances within your brain.

Our bodies are run by our brains which comes down to nothing more than electrical impulses and chemicals that are released at different times and for different reasons. It's when you mess with these that you begin to cause addiction I reckon.

There really is no point to this, other than me wanting to write and addiction being on my mind...
