I've been looking over the internet and have noticed a disturbing trend, the term "polishing" is used quite a lot. I take this clip from City of Heroes Issue 15: Anniversary; "Architect toolbox allows players to better and more easily polish their content before sharing it with the public." Now, an old saying comes to mind when I read this, you can't polish a turd*, which leads me to my next part.
Now, Myth Busters have proven that you can indeed polish a turd and give it a little gleam and make it look more appealing, but heres the thing. At the end of the day, no matter how polished it is, no matter how appealing you make it look, at the end of the day its still just a piece of s**t and no amount of polishing will make it anything else.
When writing a story you can use perfect grammer and big words. When you draw you can make the lines neat and the coloring even. When you create a game you can add great sound and particle effects. But no matter what you do, if it the basic premise is s**t no matter what you do the end product will be s**t. No matter how much polish you apply, no matter how much it shines.
So, in conclusion; Once a turd, always a turd.
*This part is not saying that CoH itself is s**t, it is saying that user-created content can turn out to be s**t.
