Sometimes (ok, if I'm being honest it's "a lot of the time" wink I look at the SF as one big drama queen. There's a reason people outside of the SF don't take it that seriously, it's because the SF takes itself so seriously.
In this case with the footer the cries are immediately "You didn't listen, you never listen" because it was implemented rather than skipped completely. Am I the only one that thinks this sounds a lot like a kid in a store having a tantrum, kicking and screaming because everything isn't their way?
I don't know if you saw it, but the original footer design was definitely different. It was, to be honest, more annoying looking and would've made things harder to use. But feedback was given and so it was taken back to the drawing board. That was great, changes that were suggested occurred. I'm sorry but you cannot claim that nobody listened, the fact that the notifications are still in the header and the bar can be completely disabled is proof that they did listen.
But "you didn't listen" is now the same cry as "sellouts", misused by people who don't seem to actually read anything in the forums. It's lost it's impact because it's plain to anyone who takes off the rage-colored glasses the user base is listened to plenty. (Hello, notifications in header, outfit saving not to mention other things). By "you didn't listen to us!" people actually mean "You didn't do things exactly the way I wanted it!" and if that's what you want then honestly, you need to grow up because that's not how the world works. Listening and discussion goes both ways, and it doesn't mean you get to dictate what will happen, it means communication can happen about things, and changes can result (as we've seen here).
Site Feedback takes itself too seriously. It has it's own culture and userbase as do most of the forums here. Unfortunately that culture and userbase don't speak for the entire site. Why? Because Site Feedback is the equivalent to Letters to the Editor in newspapers. Have you ever read those? I do often and they're hilarious, and it's usually the angry people who write in (with the occasional support/thanks letter). It's a pretty accurate comparison. But the thing is, the same group of people write in while Johnny Normal is out at the Soda shop not giving a damn. It may hurt but it's true, it's not an accurate portrayal of the website and so the opinion in Site Feedback doesn't mean it's the site-wide opinion.
If you want to be taken seriously, quit harping the same tired old slogans of "sell out" and "you're not listening" and quit making threads that are the real life equivalent of a kid's tantrum. Actually give some feedback (and abuse is not feedback) that's constructive. Want to just rant? Use your journal it's what it's here for.
