Pale Yellow, Part one. W.I.P
Pale Yellow, Part 1

A pale hand stretched out to grasp the girl’s hair, a shrill screech pierced the humid air and then everything was silent…

Andy woke up that morning with a major headache and dizziness. “Ugh, I really hate hangovers.” she groaned rolling out of her futon. Andy was a tall, lanky girl, standing at a height of five foot five exactly. She had streaming black hair and piercing blue eyes, she was beautiful, in a way that others weren’t. When she would walk around town with her friends, she would often find people staring at her. It was awkward to say the least.

At the age of nineteen she had a well paying job and a good home, the futon was just her idea of a good bed. Andy was under aged and drank every time she could, getting wasted to forget who she was. Andy was different from people you see, she was something that people thought only existed in myths and fairytales. She was a hunter, a demon hunter. Most of the time she looked like a normal teenage girl and tried to keep her appearance that way. But it was extremely difficult when everywhere you turned there were things coming at you and your friends. At times it could be unnerving, but she kept her cool.

Jumping into the shower with a grateful sigh Andy let the warm water drench her aching body. She felt her muscles scream with pain from the night before; she had gone to a party and ended up killing demons and doing very little partying. Andy sighed again and turned off the water walking into the stream filled bathroom. She wiped the mirror with her hand and noticed a new purpling bruise above her eye, and one right above her cheek. Andy hadn’t noticed those the night before. Just as she walked into the bedroom again her phone buzzed on the small table by the futon. She picked it up and check the number, she groaned again and answered it quickly.

“Hello?” she asked with an underlying tone of annoyance.

“Andy? Andy, is that you?” asked a familiar voice.

“Yea, it’s me Ezekiel. What do you want? I was just about to get dressed.” She said the annoyance in her words very clear now.

“Oh, sorry I guess,” he said with a little bit of humor in his voice, “can I come over when you’re done?” he asked.

Andy made a sound like a growl and agreed hanging up the phone before he could say anything else. She really hated him for always calling, even though they had been friends since they were in preschool. But did that matter when you were practically naked?

Ezekiel was tall and lanky just like her but he had a nice muscular build and was tan from his head to his toes. His hair was a deep chocolate brown and his eyes were the most prefect shade of green, like two pieces of green glass staring back at you from behind a display case. He was the prefect guy in everyone’s eyes. So what if he was seemingly perfect? He was a huge computer nerd and loved to play video games, in fact his job was a computer/video game programmer.

Andy was dressed and looking nice by the time he had gotten there. She was dressed in a pair of faded skinny jeans and her shirt that said “I eat small children for breakfast”. She had on her glasses and some slippers when she answered the door, seeing Ezekiel standing there in his jeans and v-neck t-shirt. Andy grimaced.

“What do you want Zekiel? I’m busy today, and I can’t screw around.” She said and pushed her hair behind her ear.

“I wanted to see you Ands. What’s so wrong with wanting to see your best friend?” he asked. Ezekiel pushed past her into the living room and looked around. Andy was really getting annoyed with his cockiness.

“Right now, everything.” She said and walked over to sit next to him on the couch. Andy looked over and noticed his hair was shorter than normal, but didn’t say anything about it. When Ezekiel noticed her staring her waved a hand in front of her face.

“Earth to Andy, you in there?” he asked stupidly.

“I thought you were stupid… now I know that you’re just retarded.” She said bluntly. “Get out, I have to go to work.” She said and ushered him off the couch and to the door. When he stopped and turned to face her she nearly punched him in the stomach.

“Would you believe me if I said I love you?” he asked, noting cocky about it.

Andy held his gaze for a brief second before she shook her head. “No, I don’t believe you. And I never will.” Was her answer and she shut the door in his face before he could answer.

Walking back into her room she sat on the bed and set her head in her hands. Today was not the day to be rethinking her life. “I can’t believe he said that. ********. That’s what he is and that’s what he will always be.” She said harshly to herself and walked into her closet to finished getting ready for work. When she was done she walked outside and started the car, driving to the office. Andy was lucky enough to work in a publishing office and to be Chief Editor in her department, today she had to get a few things done before the meeting that would change her carrier forever happened.

“Get the manuscripts and send them to my office because I need to look them over before they get sent up to Davis.” She said to Melissa, her secretary. The small woman nodded and hurried to get the paperwork and files for Andy. She walked to her office and the door was slightly opened, she peeked her head inside and saw Ezekiel sitting in the leather chair behind the desk.

“What do you want? I thought I told you I was busy.” She said her anger flaring in her words.

Ezekiel smiled a little. “You did. I just didn’t want to listen.” He said with a matter-of-fact tone. It annoyed her so much.

“Who let you in my office? I clearly didn’t, so who did?” she asked her tone still on edge.

“Demons.” Was all he had said before Andy shut the door with a loud thud. She was making her way across the room her expression was a little twisted. How did he know? Did he hear her talking to others about her official job? By the time she had made it over to where he was sitting, Ezekiel was up and had caught her by the shoulder turning her too look at him. There was an awkward silence before she spoke. “Let me go Zekiel, I need to work.” She said and gave him a hard glare.

Ezekiel let go of her shoulder but before she took a single step he hand caught her waist and pulled her closer and closer, until their lips met. This was way beyond awkward now. Andy struggled to pull away but his hand was forcing her face to his. What was wrong with him?! She stopped struggling and relaxed her body, parting her lips a little letting his tongue snake into her mouth, when she was sure he wasn’t paying much attention, she bit down on his tongue a iron tasting liquid filling her mouth. Andy stumbled back when he released her, she fell to the floor and stared up at him.

He spat and stared back at her, his gaze menacing. Andy scrambled to her feet and felt pressure close around her wrist, Ezekiel was gripping her. His knuckles were white as paper when she looked back up to meet his eyes.

“I fight fire with fire.” He said and pulled her closer, she planted her feet and resisted the urge to be pulled back to him. Andy looked down at her free hand and balled it up into a tight fist, she swung and connected with the side of his face. Ezekiel was sent to the floor bringing her down with him. He rolled on top of her with a groan as she tried to wiggle out from beneath him. Andy shoved him one last time and stood up with a quick motion.

She felt for the door when he mumbled “You b*****d! You sneaky little bas—“ he didn’t finish. Andy flung open the door and ran into the maze of cubicles. She ducked behind an empty room and leaned hard against the wall, her breath hard and painful. She heard a thudding footstep come towards her. She peered around the wall and saw Ezekiel standing there looking down at her.

She stood up and stared to run but he had caught her and threw her hard onto the ground, gripping her leg tight in his fist he snapped it like a twig. Andy let out a yowl of pain and felt hot tears flood to her eyes.

“Please, let me go. Please!” she cried, her leg burned as it shot pain signals to her overwhelmed brain. Andy felt his eyes burning holes into her as if her were made of wood. He didn’t release his grip on her, he only tightened on her leg. She screeched again and he dropped her.

“Don’t ******** with me.” He said before walking in the opposite direction. Andy just stared after him in shock. Her leg throbbed and blood stained the carpeted floors. She looked around and saw Damien looking at her from around the wall.

“Damien, help me. Please.” She pleased, the tears flooded over her cheeks. Damien walked over and picked her up swiftly, as if there were no trouble to pick her up. Andy watched his face as he carried her to his car and got in, driving to the hospital.

“Andy, you really should try to keep yourself out of trouble with people like Ezekiel.” He said quietly, barely audible over the roar of the engine. Was he serious?

“Damien, trust me, he isn’t the worst thing this god for saken world has to offer me.” She said, her tone semi-humorous.

“Expect the unexpected and things will be fine. Go clueless and reality will hit you in the face like bricks against your spinal cord.” He said, a weak smile playing at the edges of his lips. He was handsome, Andy thought. His hair felt just past his ears and it was just calling to be swept back. He was nicely tanned and had bright blue eyes, his hair was a rusty reddish color, and he was muscular without being creepily muscularly. Though he worked for her, she still liked him.

“For Christ’s sake, you sound like my mother.” She said with a slightly annoyed tone.

“Sorry for the inconvenience of the moment.” He said bitterly.

“It’s ok… I think.” She replied after a few moments of hesitation.

“You know Andy, you have so many things about you that you still don’t understand. But you have yet to explore them in anyway. Why do you torture yourself like that?” he asked solemnly.

Andy held his gaze for a moment before she had to look away. “I never really did know what I was until I killed my first demon.” She said sharply. “How did you know what I was? I never told anyone of my ‘condition’.” She said and looked at her leg, the throbbing had stopped for a few moments before picking up again with their annoying dull thuds. “Can we just get to the hospital before my leg falls off please?” she asked and looked at him.

“Sure thing.” Was all he said before he drove the rest of the way to the hospital in silence.
