Life's Pathways
From the time we are born to when we must say goodbye to our loves,
We are told we can change the world.
That each of us has equal potential for success,
And that we are all equal under the great blue sky.
Lies designed for the naïve, no real meaning,
Pretty words spoken to control the world.
We are not equal in each other’s eyes,
Even though we are no better than the ones we scoff at.
Despite our nature, we are content to travel down the path they put in front of,
Never stopping to wonder what lies at the end of any side-paths they happen upon.
Our unrelenting fear of all things unknown stops us from turning down a different path,
We fear that we shall never return to how we are at this moment.
