One day, Jake's feeling down...he tells me his situation and I try to help him out. I wonder in my head, how can I possibly help him when I can't even help myself? But he tells me that I comfort him. So I say what I can because I'd do anything to make him feel alright. I remind myself of that quote, "I wanna be the girl who tries as hard as she can to brighten everyone's day...even when she can't brighten her own." I try to live by that. And a lot of the time, when people present me with a problem, I think two things...'What would Nikki say?' and 'What would Hunter say?' I take both answers and combine them. Nikki for the logic and Hunter for the comfort. It doesn't always work, but most of the time, it gets the job done. People should really just go to them instead.
So I give Jake my advice, and he says to me, "It's like being lost in a sea of shattered glass. Hurts to sink...or swim." At the time, I had no idea what to say. I was stumped. This was exactly where I was stuck. I could neither bear to sink nor swim. But today, in Teen Living, I thought of what my answer should have been...
When you are lost in a sea of shattered glass, it may hurt to sink or swim. The glass may slice and scrape your skin, but as long as your swimming, you will eventually reach the shore.
...Unless you die of blood loss first. LOL. Sorry, haha. Had to put a little bit of humor in there to lighten the mood.
It's true though. If you're stuck, just keep swimming. You can make it to the shore. I know you can. And you may die of bloodloss before you make it to the shore...but you would have died of bloodloss if you had decided to let yourself sink, as well. At least if you die swimming, you died trying.
