My Narrative essay for English class rofl
Ever felt like life slammed into a brick wall? You couldn’t find any answers to your problems until you discovered an open window? Throughout my life I have gone through many changes. The changes shaped who I am today; some of the events that took place partially disabled me. Even though I have been through so much abuse, I discovered art. Art has changed my life because I can express my feeling through color despite who I am on the outside. Even though I hit speed bumps in my life I can manage to stress through creativity and focus on the bright side of every situation.
I grew up in a poor family; my mother had me when she was 17. My father soon left months later to serve the army in the east. I grew up wondering what he was like, I felt sad not having a father until I was 6. My father came home after a back injury; the injury wasn’t the only thing that he came back with. My mother divorced my father when I was around 12. He was a drunk who abused my family, he had threaten to kill us so my mother took my siblings and I. we ended up in Florida with no income to feed us. Lucky my grandmother was living here, and my mother found a low paying job. I was having trouble in school because I couldn’t hear well and the kids were making fun of me. I had been partially deaf in my left ear because my father punched my hard enough to break my ear bones. I was made fun of because of my crooked nose and the birth mark on my face. I was also refusing to do the work because I was just like my father, I had extreme ADHD. I became depressed hearing that I would turn out to be like my father. By the end of 9th grade I had lost my best friend and my friend Melissa. Everything in my live felt overburdened, I was very depressed with hatred.
Around the same time I learned to draw, just when I was forced to the point of being angry. I could have been a kid who went to juvenile detention, but I wasn’t. Art helped me to understand the differences between right and wrong. I used color distinguish my inner emotions and the forces around me. Art to me is a resourceful hobby. It helps calm me. It was as if I could make up people I wanted to be, and then I connected to those characters so I could be different. When I was in 9th repeat, I entered into art classes. My teacher said I was horrible at art; I didn’t have the imagination like the other students did. But I stuck to art, and my grades improved.
By then other things in my life had become a blessing. My mother found me another dad that is really cool. He adopted me and my siblings. He found a job a pizza hut, which he has been working to this day. I pushed hard enough to make it into college; I still have a little bit of trouble with my hearing. Art has helped me to be more organized with my daily life.
My ability to use art has been a useful tool to remain that of who I am today. Though many things in my life were not something to reflect on, I could still remember my evolution and salvation from my suffering. Art has helped me to cope with my obstacles, to help me look for solutions.
