[Short Story]
The confused Girl
Written by: meh
There once was a girl who lived with her mom. Her hair was lime green. She was 10 years old. She never really knew what she was doing. She'd always ask her mom for guidence. If she'd ask her dad, she'd be screwed. He wasn't too smart. He had been shot and ended up in jail once. Her mom and dad lived sperate. However, they were still married. They had been fighting, but they decided since she was only 10, she didn't deserve to go through this yet. She usually stayed with her mom. But one night her mom had a talk with her.
"Mandy!!!!" Her mom called.
"Yes, mother?"
"Your father called, he wants you to spend a week of your summer vacation with him." Her mom said.
Mandy hated the thought of spending time with her dad. She knew her dad meant well, but she still didn't like him much. She argued her mom continually trying to get out of staying with her dad. Her mom kept saying no. Her parents did have joint custody, so her mom didn't have much of a say.
"Mom!! Its not even summer yet! I still have two more days!"
"Yes, i know that mandy. You'll leave Thursday after school. He'll pick you up after school."
"Mom!!! No!!"
"I'm sorry, its just the way it has to be."
She stopped aruging. She had given up hope. She knew she couldn't change her mom's mind no matter what. She finished her last two days of school. They went by fast. Then her dad was at her school, on time. He waited patiently outside for Mandy.
He saw her and a big smile on his face emerged.
"MANDY!!!!" Her father called.
"...Hi." She said depressed.
"I've got a huge suprize for you!" He said.
He reached behind her seat. He grabbed a package.
"Here." He said handing it to her.
She buckled herself up and grabbed the package.
"...what is this? You got me something? Why??" She asked confused.
"Just open it."
The package was small. It looked like a jewerly box.
Mandy opened. She looked mad.
"A... key.. a key..?!!!?" She yelled angry.
"Yes."
"No!"
She knew exactly what it was for.
It was a house key.
"Your mother needs a break...i haven't been doing my part. Your going to be living with me until your a senior in high school."
"No! I want to stay with mom!"
"I'm sorry Mandy, but she called me. It was her idea. I'm serious. Do you think she'd let you stay with me if it was my idea?"
"No."
"Exactly. No Lets go home." He said.
Mandy knew this was going to be hell for her. She didn't know what she was going to do.
They approached the house. "We're home!" Her dad said with exicitement.
He showed her to the door and gave her a tour around.
He took her to her room.
It was painted Lime green, her favorite color. Her bed had a Jonas Brothers themed bed spread. It was her favorite band. Everything in her new room, was what she had loved. She denied it, but he knew she liked her new room more.
"One more thing, open this one, too." He said handing her a little bit bigger box, this time.
Mandy opened it sad. Her face lit up. It was a cell phone.
"Oh my gosh! Yes!!"
"Thats right. You can call your mother whenever you want to. I also bought you unlimited texting."
"Thanks.." Mandy tried to push out kindly but it sounded a bit stuck up.
The rest of the night went by fast. Then, she woke up in the middle of her sleep.
"ahh." She gasped.
She heard something paranormal.
She heard footsteps and constantly felt a cold breeze next to her bed.
She knew something was wrong.
Something was deffinitly off-beat with this house. She knew she was going to get to the bottom of it, too.
She ran to her dad's room.
She explained what happend to him.
He didn't believe her.
He said, "Thats nuts! I've had this house for five years, nothings ever happend like that."
Her dad gave her allowance to help out around the house. She helped out as much as she could, in hopes to buy a video recorder with it. She planned on recording what happens while she sleeps, she knew she's catch something.
It was a few days later, she was fast asleep.
She woke up.
"Yeah, dad?" She asked. She felt a cold hand tap her shoulder.
She opened her eyes, to find out it wasn't her dad. There was no one near. She knew her father wouldn't believe her.
She just had to keep doing more things to get money.
She started baby sitting and mowing her neighbors lawns.
It was early June. She had started to experience odd events during the day. Whenever she'd cook something in the oven, she'd come back to check on it to find it sitting on top of the stove, done. Her dad wasn't home. There was no one else in the house, but her and this ghost.
Later in the month, when she'd be taking a shower, she'd hear what sounded like breaking glass coming from the kitchen. When she'd come
out to find out what happend, there would be nothing. Like usual.
It was now July. She Finally had enough money to buy one.
She left while her dad was at work.
She ran to target.
She ran so fast.
Target was about a mile away from her dads house, her new home.
She had reached target. She ran to the electronics. The workers demanded her to quit runing. She stopped. She began to power walk. She had picked the first one she saw. She was excitied to get this paranormal acitivity on film. She went to the check out.
The caisher look suprized.
"Are you sure you have enough money for this, hun?" He said.
"Yep, i've been saving up all summer!"
He smiled.
"alright, thats $129.99"
"Here." She handed him $130.00.
Then she grabbed the bag and reciet and ran out.
"Hey.. your penny.." He shouted but she was too far away to care.
She ran back to the house. When she got back her dad had been there, sitting in a chair.
"Mandy!!"
"Yes."
"You were right. I was brushing my hair by the mirror and an old woman was standing behind me when i looked up. She started to grab my arm and i turned around and she was gone. I'm sorry i didn't believe you."
He confessed.
"I just bought this, to prove to you but i guess i don't have to."
He looked at the video recorder suprized.
"So this is what you were doing with all that money."
"Yeah."
"I'm sorry, i just thought this was such a great house i didn't want to believe it was even possible."
Mandy and her father talked for hours that night. Basically about everything. She began to like living with her father more. He had became more mature and he followed the law now.
Later, they both moved into an appartment. It wasn't haunted. A year later her mom called wanting mandy to move back in with her. Mandy refused. She realized she was more like her dad. She wasn't ever going to live with her mother, again.
