The Woman Inside
My mom used to always tell me
never judge a book by its cover;
just like an angry man outside
may truly be quite the lover.
Yet, every time I see myself,
it's so hard to get past
the fleeting images of a man
upon whom a life spell has been cast.
Never to be what he really is;
fated it seems to die alone.
Cruel irony must it be,
or past life sins he must atone.
Crying out from within his shell;
a woman no one can see.
Why can't they understand
that truly a woman he must be.
Nevertheless how he was born,
his true self he must hide.
Never to see the light of day,
being the woman he is inside.
This is a poem I wrote a few months back. It tells about someone who has for so long been classified by what gender her outer body showed. She knows that inside she is a she, but soon begins to only see what others see and loses sight of her true self.
That's one problem that we have in our world today.Parents either raise their children to not accept other people who look, act, or even believe differently than they do or they just don't teach them how to accept those differences in others. In turn their children do the same to their children and so on.
We need some kind of awareness to where the parents of this generation can stop the cycle of what many generations before us has taught. Let us teach our children how to accept everyone, no matter what they have difference in. It is our time to say no to what our parents taught or failed to teach and make a difference today for a better more open tomorrow.
