------------------- Background ------------------- Birth place: Japan Pet(s): None
Unlike his brother Tsuyoshi, Takashi was born in their native homeland Japan and having grown up there, does not mind the big cities. Also, unlike his brother, Takashi did not get to spend those first few precious years with their parents due to their leaving for more worldwide traveling shortly after his birth. Takashi was extremely close to Tsuyoshi as the two constantly hung out together. Aside from his older sibling, Takashi was closest to their grandmother, often aiding her in preparing various desserts, which he seemed more capable of understanding and handling than preparation of standard meals. She always encouraged him, even when one did not come out exactly right. He took to making smaller and healthier sweets at times she became ill.
Upon their grandmother’s death, which Takashi took pretty hard, he sought comfort from Tsuyoshi, but the older brother had taken to picking up the slack left in their grandmother’s absence. Understanding their grandfather also took the loss hard, Takashi took to finding other ways of dealing with his grief, such as receiving attention from friends and strangers. This ultimately led to his current rambunctious and hyperactive nature. He began dying his hair and wearing random clothes of reflecting the latest trend or his own concoction. This “sudden” change as dubbed by Tsuyoshi (despite it having been well over a year since Takashi’s change) shocked him when he finally noticed his younger sibling’s behavior.
Before his drastic change, Takashi did well in school, his grades often resembling that of his older brother, but afterwards, it became difficult for him to pay attention in school, leading Tsuyoshi to often reprimand him. Takashi gained the bad habit of cutting class, but never got out of hand with it. The days he does decide to cut typically fall around their grandmother’s birthday, death day, mother’s day and their grandparent’s anniversary. Now armed with an outgoing and extremely sociable personality, Takashi immediately became a popular kid. He even took up soccer, though more as a pastime than anything else, and joined the art club due to his remarkable artistic talents. With this personality change, Tsuyoshi continually bugged him to stay focused so he could graduate and get into college, but Takashi would only disarmingly retort that Tsuyoshi needed to stop being so uptight. Tsuyoshi’s overprotectiveness led to what Takashi likes to refer to as “nagging bag” or “harping hag.” Needless to say, this irritates Tsuyoshi.
Contrasting Tsuyoshi’s dislike of their parents, Takashi doesn’t seem to mind the extended absences or the often late, weird gifts they receive. He proudly displays the gifts, preferring to display them in their home, which annoys Tsuyoshi, or take it to school to show off and tell where their parents have been. Due to his not being around his parents, Takashi lacks exposure to animals aside from the usual dog or cat so when their parents decided to send an iguana as a pet, he was ecstatic. They claimed it came out of some ancient temple that the natives considered sacred as was the lizard. Takashi thought it was the greatest thing until the iguana bit him and smacked him with its tail when the boy attempted to play with it. It became somewhat apparent that the lizard didn’t seem to care for him. One night Takashi swore the iguana had somehow entered his room and just stared at him with glowing red eyes. He was freaked out, flipped on the light and went to check on the creature to see it lying still in its cage, though glaring at him out the corner of its eye. From then on, Takashi had an uneasy fear of the reptile and even attempted to persuade Tsuyoshi to send it back, but his older brother merely told him he was dreaming.
During the time Tsuyoshi was partnered with a foreign exchange student from America, Takashi took an immediate liking to her and considered Maya as the sister he never had. This often led to his joking that the two (Tsuyoshi and Maya) should get married. Takashi and Maya had one thing in common and that was the love of making confections and pastries. He would get new recipes from her and if she had time, she would do demonstrations. With his brother keeping in constant contact with the girl, after her return to the states, they could still exchange recipes and come up with new concoctions. Upon her disconnection and Tsuyoshi’s apparent distraught as the abrupt detachment, Takashi merely said she was still getting adjusted to her rising status as a renowned pastry chef. Regrettably, his brother stumbled upon the reason for her lack of contact and despite it hurting Takashi, it appear her death hurt Tsuyoshi more, but yet again unlike his brother, Takashi continued staying optimistic about the future.
This prompted their first trip to America in order for them to visit her. During his time there, they visited her dilapidated shop, Takashi had the idea they should reopen the shop and noticed his brother had gotten the same idea as well.
As Tsuyoshi decided to focus more intently on his studies, Takashi began focusing more on making contest worthy confections. He sold the desserts he made to assist his brother in attaining the needed funds the decrepit shop before they moved to New York. Regrettably, they still did not have the money. Takashi suggested asking their parents for the funds and a scowling Tsuyoshi reluctantly agreed, but made him call. Their parents more than happily obliged as they were glad to see them finding their “inner explorer.”
So Takashi packed up his things and moved to New York with Tsuyoshi where they would live out their friend’s dream. No sooner had they moved there and begun fixing up the shop did it get broken into while they were in the back. During the ensuing scuffle, the robber lunged at an unsuspecting Takashi with a knife, but Tsuyoshi dove in the way, getting a bad gash in the process. He was hospitalized for a while, but this did not deter their wanting to make Maya’s dream a reality.

------------ Personality ------------
Once upon time, Takashi was a studious child, but after the death of their grandmother and unable to get comfort from his now hardworking brother, he became the current rambunctious, carefree individual he is. This is not to say he’s completely ignorant or inept at things, but can be just as smart as his sibling, especially when it comes to mathematics and chemistry. Takashi is the type of person who views things as the glass half full, is always optimistic, and looking forward to what the future holds. He enjoys baking as it makes him feel that “grandma is always nearby.” He is profoundly outgoing, resulting in his brother dubbing him as the advertising manager and with his artistic talents, the primary confection designer. Instead of becoming withdrawn like Tsuyoshi after the death of a relative and close friend, Takashi decided to be even more outgoing so he can meet, befriend, and help as many people as he can. He sometimes even go as far as helping rival shops and chefs.
When it comes to ventures (such as creating and distributing new confections or making themes for the shop), he is very open-minded and apt to be the one to take the initiative; although he typically has to dupe Tsuyoshi into taking a chance. The results of these actions have yet to be unfavorable. Ryoji appears to be one of his biggest rivals and motivators in becoming an even better chef. Through him, Takashi is able to see that his love of creating confections went no further than maintaining the memory of his grandmother. In order to become better or even the best, Takashi had to get past this to actually get on the path to become a great pastry chef. Out of the two, Takashi is more right-brained while Tsuyoshi appears to be more left-brained.
